Have you ever wanted a game like Oblivion on your iPhone? Chillingo threw their hat into the ring with Ravensword: The Fallen King, bringing a 3D open world RPG to Apple’s portable devices. Sporting some terrific graphics and a compelling story, you’d think this would be a must buy, but sadly some control and combat issues put it on the maybe list.
You start out Ravensword by waking up with amnesia in a village that has been overtaken by evil. People are going missing and the King hasn’t been seen for years and it’s your job to find out why and eliminate the evil problem. The story is pretty good and you’ll get around 7-8 hours of gameplay out of Ravensword.

My big problem with the game is the combat. The general controls are okay, but locking on and battling enemies is frustrating as you’ll mash virtual buttons trying to strafe and not die, which happens frequently. You’ll regularly lose site of your enemy in both first and third person modes, making it tough to easily clear out an area.
Chillingo tried to achieve Oblivion on an iPhone, but came up short because of poor combat mechanics. They put some great ideas into motion with great graphics, a compelling story, and a solid auto-leveling system, but in an action RPG, combat is a key element and sadly it isn’t very good here. For $6.99, I would pass on Ravensword: The Fallen King. When it goes on sale for under $5, give it a look.

i have played ravensword for many hours now, currently at level 18 and i must say that i havent had any problems with the combat system whatsoever. Its a great game to enjoy, it reminds me of Ultima X back in the days when it squeezed everything out of a 500 mhz chip
