I have not had a good old-fashioned video gaming marathon in quite some time and I decided that the launch of Gears of War 2 would be my call to arms. I shuffled over to my local Best Buy and picked up a regular copy of the game, no limited edition gold lancer for me, then went home to get in some good old-fashioned chainsaw fun. My marathon embarked at 6 PM and did not reach its end until 5 AM, so a solid 11 hours devoted to Gears 2 to get me into the game and the result was a full play through on normal.
In a way I was both happy and sad that my marathon culminated in the completion of the game. I realized this would be another short game, similar to the first Gears, when I saw that a few hours in I was already into Act 3 of the game, but I was pleased that my marathon ended in something fruitful instead of just saying I didn’t sleep and played video games. I played with a couple of different coop partners as some of them would drop from time to time and my game actually froze twice during the 11 hour sit-down, which forced me to power my Xbox 360 down and restart again.
I did take some breaks to play Horde, which is probably my favorite game type in the game, if not possibly my favorite thing in the game period. So the way I figure it, I paid $65 and finished the game in 11 hours so I am averaging $6 per hour of entertainment, pretty decent. I know there are many things to go back and do like collect all the COGs and play in the harder difficulties, but these are side notes for me and will probably only give me a couple of extra hours of game time. Where I may spend some more time is the new online modes and matches, especially since I unlocked all the different multiplayer skins already.
I may also play through again to re-evaluate the plot and story of Gears 2, I wont spoil anything but the story at times will make your jaw drop and also scratch your head in confusion. Perhaps it was my sleep deprivation kicking in but there were segments of the game that I did not quite understand and neither did my buddy I played with.
I can also report that I have killed about 950 enemies putting me that much closer to the Seriously 2.0 achievement that calls for 100,000 kills. That is approximately 1,000 kills in 10 hours, so in another 990 hours I should have this achievement all wrapped up.
Stay tuned for our full review pretty soon.

Haha 990 hours would mean 41 days of play time to get that achievement. I know some friends who have ~24 days of COD4 but that is crazy enough. Man I can’t wait to see who gets that achievement first.
Horde = fantastic!
I also had a GOW 2 marathon with a buddy (physically there so we had no connection problems ;] ) last night. I completely understand what you mean about the strange parts of the story. I have a theory as to one part (the lab) but there’s still some weird stuff. Its blatantly obvious that they are setting up a sequel though. You will especially realize this if you listen after the credits. Overall though, the campaign was great. I was very disappointed with the ending (not so much how it unfolded but the shear easiness of it) but the rest of the game makes up for it.
And if you almost reached 1000 in co-op with one play through and some horde think of how it would double if you played through the story by yourself instead of co-op! Plus the horde!
Cliffy B already stated that this would be a trilogy..I have not played alot of online due to the fact that i cannot find a single game..and it is very annoying, i think im going to call MS tomorrow or monday..everyone else can get into games, but not me
it want be me or it may i love playing all the campign from casural to normal to hard core an to insane really its possible to get it in a week if you play from easy to insane you can get it but if you just do it on easy then you get less things to kill the harder it is the more that comes at you. do the math an if you kill all an not leave behind then you will get it in a week in a half…..
