As someone who purchased the PS3 version of the original Rock Band and since I could not wait to grab the new PS3 version of Rock Band 2 in a few weeks, I picked up a copy for the Xbox 360. Armed with my original Guitar Hero II guitar and my PS3 Rock Band microphone I endeavored to play some Rock Band 2. Here is my tale…
I dusted off my original Guitar Hero II guitar stickers and all that resides behind a couch and found out that it works perfectly fine with the game and allows me to play the lead guitar and bass with absolutely no problems. I then tried to get crafty and see if my PS3 instruments may work on my Xbox 360, I know it was wishful thinking but I had to try it.
I first tried the wireless PS3 guitar by putting the wireless dongle into the 360 and it lit up and seemed to connect to the guitar but the buttons did nothing, unfortunately the PS3 guitar wouldn’t work. In a desperate attempt after that I broke out my PS3 drum set and tried that, oddly enough the PS button lit up when connected to my Xbox 360, but again did not register any buttons being pressed. Sony PS3 instruments on an Xbox 360 FTL.
Being 0 for 2 I was a bit discouraged, but decided to try my PS3 microphone on my 360 and that worked just fine. Since the PS3 microphone is a standard USB microphone it works just fine as long as you have a functioning Xbox controller.
So at the end of it all I learned that I have a two wireless PS3 guitars and a PS3 drum set that are useless until the launch of the PS3 game, but at least a fully functioning PS3 microphone.
At least I can currently play both guitars (bass and lead) and vocals (via the PS3 microphone), but no drum solos for me just yet.
Did anyone else try any of this or was I the only odd one?

unfortunately, you were the only one.
