Yeah your read the title right, this is actually what Miyamoto of Nintendo believes. During a recent exchange a reporter asked Miyamoto about Wii Music.
Wii Music doesn’t have high scores, goals or anything like that, isn’t it more like a toy than a videogame?
Miyamoto responded: Yes, that’s right. That’s why it’s more interesting than a videogame.
If interesting is the same as what this guy is doing you can count me out.
Hit the jump to read the rest of my rant.
I am sorry but spazzing out to a rendition of Twinkle Twinkle Little Star is not more interesting than taking an enemies head off in Fallout 3 or tactically dismembering an enemy in Dead Space, not even close. I think Wii Music is the exact opposite of interesting, it is a dumb gimmick to get people that do not usually play games to buy this system and cheesy title. Wii Music does not tell you if you’re doing well or not, but instead just lets you free form on some instruments. It is the equivalent of a small child that cannot draw to save his/her life giving you a paper with scribbles and you telling them they just painted a masterpiece. Playing the air saxophone or tambourine is not interesting to anyone unless you are Bill Clinton.
Miyamoto could have said that it was more profitable and then that would have been a true statement. Nintendo will continue to make a lot of money off of the Wii and casual games or as this reporter aptly put it, their toys. Video games were working hard to lose the stigma of being childlike and for kids and Nintendo is ruining that and making all of those stereotypes true again.
No self-respecting adult gamer will be playing Wii Music unless they are completely drunk.

So you set the bar for respect? Glad to know that there is a god…/sarcasm
If eventually people seem to enjoy this game, what is your problem then?
@ Dur - Yes I do! LOL
No it’s an opinion, your opinion may be that its the best game ever, it would be the wrong opinion, but its yours. haha
The only people to enjoy this game will be non-gamers and children. Its cute if you watch a small child play the air trumpet, now put a full grown 30 year old man doing the same thing…. pretty scary huh?
Wii Music, the ET video game of this generation.
To assume that i think its the best game is pretty much narrow minded.
If a 30 year old wants to play this game let him, wtf is your problem?
Because you cant be yourself is not the reason to bash others.
You = epic fail.
This is probably the most retarded video game concept I’ve ever heard of.
No goals?
No scoring?
No way to know how well you’re doing?
What’s the point, then?
Why bother playing?
@ Dur - your argument makes no sense. I didnt assume anything, i said it may be your opinion or it may not. You may like to put maple syrup in your hair and run down the street naked. Who knows?
Who says I cant be myself? No adult with a brain in their head will find enjoyment from playing an imaginary instrument where no matter what you do the correct notes play. GH and RB are successful because there is skill involved, Wii Music is just people flailing their arms around.
And who have I bashed?
You = not making sense
@Doctor Pickles - u sir are correct!
Just confirmed that you can wear a Puppy Suit and bark to music in Wii Music, YEEEEAHHHHH!!! Move over MGS4 and Flalout 3 bring over a puppy suit and barking to stupid songs. (No I am serious there is a puppy suit)
And for this reason I will miss LN, HAHA
” No adult with a brain in their head will find enjoyment from playing an imaginary instrument where no matter what you do the correct notes play. ”
You are pathetic, keep on bashing people, really makes you look intelligent{yes sarcasm indeed}.
sad f*ck you are =D
Wow…nothing like getting an FU on ur bday….Ouch!!!
I agree, this game looks horrible, I dont get the point!!!
At least with GH and RB you are actually doing something other than waving your hands up and down like a lunatic….
@ Dur - I think you have some pent up hostilities and issues. Its ok its not your fault.
I am bashing imaginary people, shame on me. LOL
And I am actually a happy f*ck.
No offense Dur, although Al Zamora said it a bit harshly, he does have a point.
In pretty much all video games that I know of, there is ALWAYS a goal, or scoring system, or any sort of progression. Videogames are meant to CHALLENGE the player somewhat in order to achieve a sense of accomplishment out of it.
What accomplishment can be felt from doing whatever you want in Wii Music? That you created great music? The thing is that you didn’t create any music. You might as well listen to the radio and shake your Wiimote to those songs and you should feel just as rewarded.
This is a huge problem with the direction Nintendo is moving in to cater to casuals. When you live in a world where you don’t have to do much of ANYTHING and you still get rewarded, you lose a sense of value in that reward.
Let’s say you were given all the money you ever wanted, and money kept coming to you… how much do you think you will value your money compared to a person who works hard for their cash?
Or let’s say you had the ability to pirate tonnes of games. Have you met anyone who has HUGE collections of videogames? How much does that person value the games that they have compared to someone who has purchased them? The people I know who pirated hundreds of PS2 games usually only play some of the games for like 10 minutes, then move on to the next game, probably playing less than 5% of their collection.
So now let’s say you can do whatever the f*ck you want in Wii Music, and you can create great music. What is the reward or accomplishment felt? There shouldn’t be any, you should be able to strap the Wii to your cat and the cat can make equally good music without knowing what the f*ck is going on.
Some people may enjoy it for the first few tries, but I swear Wii Music is just about as enjoyable as riding the merry-go-round, it’s only fun for at most a couple of times, but after that, it’s pointless.
I don’t know what video you were watching Al, but at no point did Miyamoto play a note which sounded right or “good”. Nor did the other guy in terms of rhythm. Maybe I’m missing an article somewhere that says the notes are corrected for you.
It seems to me that if you handed this to an actual musician they might be able to make decent music with it. There wouldn’t be much point when there are real instruments to play, or great selections of sequencer/synth software such as Fruity Loops and Reason available on PC. It would surely require more skill than GH and RB however.
@Dur - I wouldn’t really call the people here at loot-ninja pathetic especially considering that they have been around 2 years and are at the point of giving away consoles 0_0.
Anyways, this game is completly stupid. So basically I can just wave my hands around with NO SCORE or anything. There really isn’t a reason to buy this at all unless it is for a little kid who you want to introduce to videogames (I was playing doom ). I don’t think anybody would play this and actually think it is fun in any way.
all of you people here talking about Wii Music like it’s stupid because it doesn’t score you… what’s the point of actually playing an instrument then? I bet none of you are musicians because real guitars dont have Star Power. You’re all so caught up in what makes a video game a video game that you ignore the main point. It’s about having FUN. If you cant have fun with Wii Music then dont buy it. But making fun of people for playing it… just makes you look pathetic. Go back to your Guitar Hero and Rock Band. I’ll go back to my real instrument. None of us will get Wii Music… but at least YOU can rest easy knowing you’ve insulted millions of people you’ll never meet. And that makes you cool huh?
@Justin, great merry go round analogy
This happy f#ck is outta here too….LOL
Peace
P.S. BOTTOM LINE=THIS GAME SUXS!!!
The game looks asinine, and seems to me that it is a complete waste of time.
M Night Shyamalan selling it makes it that much worse to me.
Didn’t they also say there are no plans for DLC for this game? It’s all supposed to be those songs that anyone can record, like row row row your boat and jimmy crack corn, etc.
I had to laugh when they were performing this at the conference.
Haha jimmy crack corn thats great. And yea during the conference it was hilarious. Now that I think about it I skipped through a lot of the nintendo conference.
Im really confused why people are getting insulted. I think Miyamoto should come yell at me not random people reading this.
I still stand firm that Wii Music will stink. If you want to play an instrument go play a real one.
@ BKLNbass - I can play real instruments and playing GH or RB isnt the same, I agree. But WiiMusic is neither a rhythm game niether a simulation of playing a real instrument, its just dumb.
