You may remember an article from almost a year ago where I got addicted to Mafia Wars on the iPhone. The game’s MMO-type structure and fast pick-up-and-play style sucked me in immediately. But soon after, I stopped playing. This was early in the game’s life cycle and I had maxed out what was available. Millions of dollars were coming my way hourly and I had enough Energy and Stamina to level up without taking a break. It got boring.
Fast forward to last week when I decided to give the game another try. Since I’m on a new iPhone and it had been so long since I had played, my old player had been removed from the system and I had to start from scratch, which didn’t bother me one bit. Turns out that Zynga made some great updates to their free game that has me addicted yet again.

Recently released on the iPhone/iPod Touch, Mafia Wars from Zynga is a clone of the very popular Facebook app/game. While I never played it, I used to play My Heroes Ability a lot on the social networking site. Someone tipped me off on the free game release, so I had to check it out. I haven’t really put my iPod Touch down much since last night.
This shit is addicting. You start out by picking between being a Mogul, a Criminal, or a Brawler, then do jobs to get money, weapons, properties, and experience. You can also fight other players and level yourself up to be a big time mafia guy. I picked a Mogul and I’m currently at level 9 with a few properties getting me $1130 every hour, which is nice.
