In case you had some ideas of playing Halo, Left 4 Dead, Gears of War, Call of Duty, or whatever it is you’re playing now on your Xbox 360, don’t forget that Xbox Live will be down tomorrow, possibly all day.
Microsoft is doing some maintenance and upkeep on their servers to prepare for all the new shit they announced at E3 (Facebook, Twitter, Last.Fm, vibrator support with streaming porn). Live will be going down at midnight tonight PT (that’s 3am ET) and could be down for up to 24 hours. It sucks that it goes down the day Ghostbusters is getting released, because it’s pretty fun online (check back for our review tomorrow).
There are couple happenings on XBL this week that you all may be interested in. First, there will be an XBL outage next week on Tuesday June 16 for the entire day. They are doing some back-end maitenance to get the servers ready for some new features we get later in the year. Also, the anticipated Overlord II demo is out as well.
No real changes in this week’s top 10. Halo 3 is still the champ. UFC makes a move in at number 8, while it’s free demo holds at number 6. It looks as if the music games have really fallen off as none of them are in the top 10 again.

For many gamers, the online multiplayer component is (unfortunately) routinely the only mode they play. I must admit on my own account, that I myself did not complete the Call of Duty 4 single player campaign until the game had already been out for almost a whole year. The only reason I even beat the game was because I signed in one night to find that no one from my online wrecking crew was logged in, and I was in no mood to go on and make new friends. That led me to take on the whole campaign in just one night. With so much attention focusing on the inclusion of an online multiplayer component in the current console generation, one would assume that the developers of these games would go the extra mile of having it function the right way. It would just be good for business, because if they do a good enough job, they can release some wallet draining DLC to go with it. Yet game after game these days seem to follow the same dead end road of using both dated lobby and (pointless) ranking systems. Whether it’s SOCOM: Confrontation, Rainbow Six Vegas 2, or the more recent Killzone 2, it seems that developers just don’t take the time to do what one developer has been doing right for the past 5 years.

Another week at the top for Halo 3. Ever since Mythic Map Pack dropped, Halo 3 has held the number one spot. Some notable members on the list include UFC demo moving up as well as Bionic Commando demo making an appearance. This is the first time in awhile that no music game is in the top 10. Perhaps the fad has finally passed.

XBL has been pretty clear that they don’t like cheating. For some reason, people are still so hard for achievements that they risk being reset to zero for a few gamerscore points for the hard to get milestones. Major Nelson dropped some knowledge on us recently about the upcoming beat down:
Deliberate cheats like these are in direct violation of the Xbox LIVE Terms of Use and will not be tolerated. As I post this, we’ve begun taking steps to reset the Gamerscores of the offending players.
I could see if you had to cheat on your Spanish quiz because you didn’t study or cheat at strip poker to get some girls topless, but cheating at gamerscore? Making us all look bad there d-bag.
The more things change, the more things stay the same. Halo 3 remains the top dog on the Live charts for third consecutive week. Love it or Hate it, people still play the shit out of Halo 3. Big ups to the awesome UFC demo for making an appearance. If the full version is as good as I think it will be, expect UFC to make a lot of noise.

Halo 3 remains the top dog in Xbox 360 land marking to straight weeks on top. There is little else that has changed with the CoD dynamic duo in 2nd and 3rd place. People are still playing a ton of RE5 despite mixed feelings.
