Here I am on Xbox Live sporting the recently released University Collection package in the Avatar Marketplace. Yeah yeah, before you hate on me for buying useless clothing or accessories let me just say that football is a different story. Especially college football in my mind. You don’t change your favorite college team because they are sucking. That’s who you grew up with and that’s who you stick with.
Today on the Xbox Live Marketplace, Microsoft have released the “University Collection”, a plethora of Avatar goodies for you to purchase. The new collection features a substantial list of collegiate teams from all over the US with various items of clothing adorned with the school logo or name. Don’t worry though, this stuff is officially licensed so all of the items have the school’s official name and colors. I went online to purchase a few items I wanted from my school and ran across a small bug on Microsoft’s part. The one thing I noticed? Lack of spellcheck on one item for a particular school. It just so happened to be MY favorite school. Arkansas.

As you can see, it is entitled “Arkanasas”. This is an actual screencap from the Xbox Live Marketplace. I don’t know when this issue will get fixed, but I figure for the moment it’s kind of funny.
As a little history lesson for Microsoft if they read this, the name Arkansas was derived from both French and Indian settlers of that region. At one point in history, it was actually illegal to pronounce it “Ark-an-SAS” instead of its proper pronunciation “Ark-an-SAW”.
Looks like I’m going to be sporting even more jokey material for my home state. I feel like we as a state just got over all that “having sex with your sister” crap and Bill Clinton. And now this? Sheesh! I’m gonna look like a hillbilly that can’t spell on Xbox Live! Thanks Microsoft!

Look at those two up there! The Locust and Gears clans, joining together finally for peace and happiness between the two factions. Happy at last after years of fighting and confrontations, sharing their territory with each other finally. I want you to take away the chainsaws, or better yet, imagine that those two chainsaws are essentially candles. Symbolic candles, like those you would see in a wedding ceremony that are used to show the joining of two families coming together. Wait? What’s that? Oh, there is going to be double XP weekend and whoever wins this fight gets 500 bonus XP? SHIT! Kill ‘em ALL!
Taking a gander over at the testosterone filled Gears of War 2 forums lets you know all of the ingredients needed to make a Gears man. What is needed to make a Gears man you ask? Why, its bulging sweaty biceps, back hair, stubble, a soul patch of hair under the bottom lip, and quite possibly a do-rag (optional). You will also find a few chatty characters in the Gears forums as well, probably complaining. Deep inside the forums is a post laying the groundwork for a very busy Labor Day weekend for US celebrators. It’s time for another double XP extravaganza hosted by Epic Games.

Harmonix is bringing new life to the Rock Band franchise in the form of the Rock Band Network, allowing up and coming bands, and fellow gamers, the chance to put their song IN the Rock Band song catalogue.
This is great news for the Rock Band franchise, and should see the track list of songs jump to an unheard of number of listings. Upon a closer inspection (Joystiq has a a good article on their impressions here), we see that the service to create the first song for your band won’t be as quick of a turnaround as one would like. Most gamers out there will have to put in an average of 20 to 40 hours to create their first track, and some people (myself included) just don’t have the patience for that.

For most of us gamers out there, updates to the 360 come to us as we awake from our afternoon nap, throw off the loose Cheetos that hang on to our sweatpants, and boot up the console, only to see what looks like an error message. We rub our eyes sleepily to get the goop out and hope to goodness that Xbox Live isn’t down.
Coming soon though is an NXE update that I think everyone will benefit from in some way. I was lucky enough to send in my survey and be selected for the second wave of NXE preview program invites. Over the past week or so I have been able to put the NXE update through its paces (minus the Netflix updates which I don’t have) and will give my impressions so far on the update coming August 11th.

In case you had some ideas of playing Halo, Left 4 Dead, Gears of War, Call of Duty, or whatever it is you’re playing now on your Xbox 360, don’t forget that Xbox Live will be down tomorrow, possibly all day.
Microsoft is doing some maintenance and upkeep on their servers to prepare for all the new shit they announced at E3 (Facebook, Twitter, Last.Fm, vibrator support with streaming porn). Live will be going down at midnight tonight PT (that’s 3am ET) and could be down for up to 24 hours. It sucks that it goes down the day Ghostbusters is getting released, because it’s pretty fun online (check back for our review tomorrow).

There are couple happenings on XBL this week that you all may be interested in. First, there will be an XBL outage next week on Tuesday June 16 for the entire day. They are doing some back-end maitenance to get the servers ready for some new features we get later in the year. Also, the anticipated Overlord II demo is out as well.

No real changes in this week’s top 10. Halo 3 is still the champ. UFC makes a move in at number 8, while it’s free demo holds at number 6. It looks as if the music games have really fallen off as none of them are in the top 10 again.

Not much new happening in the top 10 this week. Halo 3 still holds the top spot. UFC demo holds firm in the middle with its release coming today. Bionic Commando and UFC could make an appearance with both slated for release.

No major changes in this week’s top 10. Halo stays firm as well as the rest of the top 5. UFC demo still holding strong as gamers eagerly wait for May 19th and finally a chance to play as some other fighters.

Another week at the top for Halo 3. Ever since Mythic Map Pack dropped, Halo 3 has held the number one spot. Some notable members on the list include UFC demo moving up as well as Bionic Commando demo making an appearance. This is the first time in awhile that no music game is in the top 10. Perhaps the fad has finally passed.
