No, this title is not bullshit. Wipeout HD, the amazingly fast paced racing game has been delayed due to the fact that people play the game and have epileptic seizures. Yeah. How much does that suck? You’re having a good time then all of a sudden you break into convulsions, bite your tongue, and probably shit your pants. All because the game is a blur of flashing lights and blaring techno music. I wish I had footage of this.
Wipeout is making it’s way to the PlayStation Network with 1080p graphics and a silky smooth 60fps. It’s very similar the new PSP version, Wipeout Pulse, except on consoles. That’s not a bad thing either, if you read our review of Pulse. Wipeout HD should be hitting a console near you this spring.
Wipeout Pulse is the follow up to the hit PSP launch title, Wipeout Pure. The game steps up in every aspect, from graphics to gameplay to the addition of online multiplayer. This game is deep, very deep. Here is a breakdown of some of the facets of Wipeout Pulse for the PSP:
Presentation and Graphics: I wouldn’t say Wipeout Pulse has the best graphics we’ve seen on the PSP, but it’s right up near the top. Each of the game’s 12 reversible tracks look great as you speed through with a terrific frame rate. Each ship in the game has it’s unique look and feel, which is accentuated by the online skin editor. You can unlock new skins by playing through the game or make new skins yourself online. These user-created skins can be taken online as well to show off to the world during races. 9 of 10
Wipeout Pulse, the insanely fast paced racer for the PSP, received some downloadable content yesterday in Europe. The game is scheduled for release in the US next week, but DLC is already available in territories where the game is available.
The Mirage Pack, running £3.49, includes two new tracks and their zone variants, as well as the Mirage team. Future packs, all scheduled for release this month, will include similar content. The Icaras Pack is scheduled for release February 14th, with the Harimau Pack coming the 21st, followed by the Auricom Pack on the 28th.
No word on when these packs will hit North America, but I’d assume later this month. We’ve been playing Wipeout Pulse for the past few days and really love it, especially the 8 player online racing. You can expect a full review early next week.
Yeah. Read that title again, according to PS3Fanboy, PlayFrance has revealed evidence that Wipeout, the insanely fast F-Zero type racing game will be in 1080p, the highest resolution available now. On top of that, it will run at the full 60 FPS. Okay, now you have my attention. The interview is here and written in French, so I can’t read it, but it does confirm that this is true. Could this be the apex of graphical achievement that the PS3 says it can handle. Let’s all hope so and eyes will be watching for the first video.
