Review: wipEout HD (PS3)

It only took a couple weeks after release, but I’m now finally able to play wipEout HD on my PS3. The bug that caused the game to lock up should you have more than 50 friends has been fixed. Now that I’ve had time to spend with the game, I have to say I’m pretty impressed.

First off, the game is flat out beautiful, running at 1080p at 60 frames per second. The team at SCE Studio Liverpool took the engine that was developed for the PSP version and turned up the juice. A lot. Ships, tracks, and destruction look amazing. This is easily the fastest game you’ll be playing. In true wipEout fashion, the game features a great techno/electronic soundtrack that really fits the fast paced racing action. If that isn’t your thing, the built-in XMB music player will allow you to listen to whatever tracks you have stored on your hard drive.

wipEout HD Gets Patched

It’s about time. Almost 3 weeks after the game was released, Sony released a patch to allow the game to actually load for people with more than 50 friends on their PSN account.

The v1.10 patch will be downloaded when you fire up the game on your PS3. It’s a quick download, so you won’t have to wait a ton of time.

Now that I can actually play the game, you can expect a review coming later this week. I loved the PSP version, so I have high hopes for this PS3 edition.

No Review: wipEout HD (PS3)

According to our internal schedule, a review for wipEout HD for the PlayStation Network was supposed to drop this week for you. However, the game’s problems have prevented that from happening. There have been numerous reports across the intarwebs are freezing, and I am one of those who was susceptible.

We’re been in touch with Sony and are following the progress of a patch very closely. As soon as I can actually play the game, you’ll get a review. As for now, be careful when purchasing as you might not be able to play it. Some reports suggest having a friends list greater than 50 people is the culprit, but who knows. Mine is definitely larger than that.
