Halo 2 Windows Vista Version

Halo WarthogHalo 2 for Windows Vista will be available June 2007 and comes with much anticipation. Many gamers believe FPS games are best played with a mouse and keyboard, since I played hundreds of hours on the Xbox already I think I will pass on this one.

A couple of things that do interest me in the Windows Vista version are the map editor, which will alloy people to edit and make their own personal versions of maps and the 2 new multiplayer maps that are specific to the PC version, District and Uplift.

The PC version will get it’s own servers to play off and will actually allow gamers to now play the game from the disc, this mean no more having to load the entire game on your hard drive, but instead playing it like you would off your console.

From the press release:

Key Features:

• Exciting single-player gameplay. Experience firsthand the epic struggle between Master Chief and the Covenant armada. Brandish dual-wield weapons and Covenant arms, while piloting human and non-human vehicles and aircraft to battle intelligent AI alien enemies.

• Unmatched online gaming. “Halo 2” for Windows Vista will tap into the power of Games for Windows — LIVE to deliver online matchmaking for its Gold account members. The service will enable Windows Vista gamers around the globe to connect via their PCs and play in an innovative and competitive online forum.

Halo 2 PC Trailer

Microsoft and Bungie dropped a new Halo 2 PC trailer today. If you have a beefy Windows Vista computer, Halo 2 is your first DirectX 10 eye candy.

The textures look better than the 360 version and the included map editor looks to add a lot of depth to the game.

How to Install Windows Vista

Have you been having issues with installing Windows Vista? A lot of people have, with incompatible hardware, software, and the like. Well, Anthony Cumia, of Opie and Anthony fame (listen daily on XM 202), decided to make video tutorial of how to properly install Vista. He had a hard time on his main computer, so decided to install it on a second machine with terrific results. Check the video…

Vista Upgrade Experience

So I decided to do an upgrade to Vista Ultimate on my laptop instead of a clean install. I figure, if it doesn’t work out well, I can always do a clean install. To jump the gun… I love Vista! The Aero interface is terrific. And it’s working almost perfect…

The install itself took, I shit you not, 5.5 hours. It’s not like I have a slow computer either. My laptop rocks a 2.16ghz Intel Core 2 Duo with 2GB DDR2-667 RAM. Not too shabby. It’s just painfully slow to do an upgrade. Once I finally got into Vista, I had a few issues with programs that needed to re-installed because they lost their activations, particularly AVG AntiVirus and Nero 7. I can’t install the Visual Studio 2005 SP1, but I hear that’s more a common thing than a Vista issue. Few small things here and there (sleep settings for my laptop, sync’ing with my BlackBerry), but everything seems to be up and running fine. I only have 2 programs that don’t work under Vista, both having to do with my Nikon dSLR. The first is Nikon Capture NX, their Raw processing software. Second is DxO Optics Pro 4, which also is a Raw processing and image enhancement software. Both assure me that new versions will be available “shortly”, but both also said they don’t have a definite ETA. I guess I’ll just run that stuff on my desktop PC for now.

Overall, it went fairly smooth, other than than ridiculous amount of time it took. I’m happy I made the upgrade. Now just waiting for Office 2007 Enterprise to arrive…

Windows Vista Launches Today

In case anyone hasn’t heard, and you live in a bubble somewhere, Windows Vista officially launches today. Most of the big retailers are offering some free things with Vista today. I know Staples is giving away a free PNY 1GB USB flash drive, and rebates for some software that you buy along with it.

Be careful about that update though, there’s still alot of software that doesn’t work properly, and some hardware doesn’t have good drivers yet…

Gotta Love Microsoft (sarcasm is very high)

So after speaking with Drunk Black/White Large Animal last night about his issue with Microsoft Vista updates and Quickbooks, Microsoft seems to be having issues with Wikipedia as well.
