It takes a lot these days for me to buy a WiiWare game. I have a full system memory and a full 2GB SD card, so any new purchase requires a bit of maneuvering on my part to free up space somewhere so I can play new games. In most cases, I just pass over the new WiiWare titles because of the inherent hassle, but Midnight Pool was different. I’m a big billiard fan, both in real life and in video games. After seeing some of the videos and previews, I had to check this one out.

The Wiikly Update makes some noise this week. There is a new WiiWare pool game and another Neo Geo game, but we get the classic NES Mega Man. The original. Awesome. I would have liked them to have made a bundle of the first three, but its a good addition nonetheless. Hit the jump for pricing and description.

Big things happening in the Wiikly Update this week. We finally get our first installation into the new Frat Party Games lineup. We get Pong Toss, which is an obvious beer pong game yet nowhere in the game or anything describing it makes any mention to beer. Nintendo is playing this one safe. Who is to say that you can’t drink 6 cups of Mr. Pibb on a Thursday night? We also get 2 Virtual Console games that you actually have heard of. If only we had to room to download them. Hit the jump for pricing and descriptions. Read More »

No street dates have been announced just yet on Mega Man 9, but Capcom has confirmed that the newest Mega Man title, Megaman 9, will be hitting the PlayStation Network, the Xbox Live Arcade, and Wiiware. What was at first thought to be a Wiiware exclusive title has turned the corner and been whored out to all the systems. Good job Capcom, make sure you fill your pockets with as much cash as possible.
LAST MINUTE UPDATE: Capcom has officially stated that Mega Man 9 is currently slated “for WiiWare only” and that the information indicating it would go cross platform was a mistake on Capcom’s part. We take back the part where we called Capcom money grubbing whores, we love you Capcom, we didn’t mean it.

Another one from the “No Shit?” files today. Microsoft is confused by WiiWare. Shocker. In an interview with SPOnG, Chris Satchell had this to say:
“I’ve been a little confused by WiiWare… The more I look at it, the more I’m confused, because it sort of doesn’t really look like something for independents.
“At best it’s what we would call a registered developer programme.”
Nintendo has hyped WiiWare as a platform for anyone to get their game developed. Microsoft is pushing XNA for community development. Did anyone honestly expect Microsoft to praise WiiWare? Gotta hype your own service. At least Satchell didn’t shit all over it like Aaron Greenburg has been doing to the competition. Oh, and Chris is a big dude, so he gets a big picture.

Today is 6/9/08. Heh-heh… 69. Anyway, here is whats new this week in the Virtual Console and WiiWare. We get a Pokemon game, a NES classic, and another NES game I have never heard of. Hit the jump for all the details.

The inevitable collision of drinking and video games has occured once again with beer pong being confirmed on Wiiware. I honestly don’t see frat guys in a house playing drinking games with a remote because its lame as all hell and spilled beer doesn’t fare so well for electronic devices. Despite this, its fun to see the Wii growing up a little bit. I would rather play the Wii and get shitfaced than bake a cake or play whack-a-mole. I take that back. Whack-a-mole fucking rules. Hit the jump for the press release.

Seems like nowadays I cant really grasp what Nintendo is doing as far as their strategy. They have definitely focused on casual games and first party titles, they have neglected their online services and pretty much thumbed their noses at their user base.
They continue this trend of confusion by releasing their new Nintendo Channel and WiiWare which promises new games much like what we are used to on the XBLA or PSN, but also DS demos. Only thing is that the demos are not there forever, they are only available or certain time frames and are then yanked off. Why? Because f*ck you that’s why! Apparently Nintendo feels that if you want your demo you need to get on that as soon as possible or miss the boat.
Every time a Nintendo product gets launched it is automatically on back-order to create more hype around it. Wii Fit is no exception, people are lining up for this thing and I doubt anyone will play for it for more than a week, just look at your copy of Smash Brothers Brawl collecting dust in the corner.
I am quickly growing tired of Nintendo’s shenanigans, start releasing good games and cut out the gimmicks. Sad part is they are making money hands over fists.
