Because the Wii Remote isn’t precise enough for your gaming needs, Nintendo has just announced the Wii MotionPlus, which will plug into your Wii Remote and make your aiming even that much better. More details are coming tomorrow with Nintendo’s E3 Press Conference, so stay tuned.
Here’s the whole press release:
Nintendo’s upcoming Wii™ MotionPlus accessory for the revolutionary Wii Remote™ controller again redefines game control, by more quickly and accurately reflecting motions in a 3-D space. The Wii MotionPlus accessory attaches to the end of the Wii Remote and, combined with the accelerometer and the sensor bar, allows for more comprehensive tracking of a player’s arm position and orientation, providing players with an unmatched level of precision and immersion. Every slight movement players make with their wrist or arm is rendered identically in real time on the screen, providing a true 1:1 response in their game play. The Wii MotionPlus accessory reconfirms Nintendo’s commitment to making games intuitive and accessible for everyone. Nintendo will reveal more details about the Wii MotionPlus accessory and other topics Tuesday morning at its E3 media briefing.
According to a source at MTV, Microsoft has been working on motion controller similar to Wii remote since last summer.
It’s said that the project is being led by Rare as they create a unified interface and look for the controller. No other concrete details are known, however MTV’s source sketched out what the controller looks like.
How many more types of controllers does the Xbox 360 need? I have wired and wireless controllers as well as Big Button Pads for Scene It. Now we’re going to need Wii Remote style controllers too? No word on how the motion controls will interface with the Xbox 360. But I can tell you this, I have no more room another sensor bar on top of my TV.
If you’ve got a strong enough PC to run Crysis and have some spare horsepower for an add-on (who doesn’t, right), then you might be interested in Wiisis. This guy mapped almost all of the game’s controls to the Wiimote and Nunchuk. Granted, it’s very freaking cool, but there’s no my PC will ever be able to run both applications. Maybe it gives up hope for some really good shooters on the Wii.
Is your Wii-mote cold? Does she need some protection? Fear not my friends, Nintendo has you covered. They’re now shipping a silicone “jacket” for the Wii-mote with every console and extra controller sold.
What if you already have a bunch of Wii-motes, you ask? Well, you can sign up to get some free jackets. Hit up Nintendo’s site here for the details.
The jacket is intended to remedy issues of people throwing the Wii-mote through their TV or dropping and breaking it while gaming by adding a bit of texture to the remote. I’ve been using my Wii for almost a year now and never lost the remote, and this includes Wii Sports Baseball where you throw you arms around like crazy.
