So I got my copy of WET in the mail yesterday, and I was impressed by the story, and then immediately underwhelmed by the gameplay. The story is good. Not awesome, but good. Rubi is a “fixer”. A better description would be a “Kill whoever, or GET whatever, at any cost, as long as you pay me” type mercenary. I like this aspect of the game, because you get the feeling that Rubi is only in it for the money, and nothing else. Just cold hard cash, and her sense of righteous indignation. Right off, you are hired to procure a steel briefcase from a low-level Chinese drug pusher who double crossed someone to get the case. This is the opening cinematic, and also the tutorial level of the game. After this, the story changes drastically, and gets much, much better. I REALLY don’t want to divulge anything further, because the story is really one of the best parts of the game and redeems it somewhat for me.

I went ahead and included it in my long list of Indie games to try out (thanks for the good memories Power Hour and The Drinking Game) for the night and was pleasantly surprised, and then underwhelmed.
Eliza Douche-koo (actually it’s spelled Dushku) adds the voice of our estrogen filled hero Rubi, a dual-wielding slo-mo assassin type aficionado, set in this Kill Bill-esque world. The demo really doesn’t give away any of the story included in the game, so I was left to my own devices to come up with the story line. Here is what I think happened…..

Third person action shooters are always a good time, and Bethesda’s new star-studded WET looks to be no exception. I got to play through a sizable demo of the game at E3 the day before Eliza Dushku showed up to pimp the game. Had I been there near her, I probably wouldn’t have paid as much attention to the game. Since she wasn’t in my airspace, I got to focus a bit without diverted blood flow.
