Warhawk - Operation: Broken Mirror Priced and Dated

Warhawk Operation Broken Mirror Screen

Dylan Jobe, the director of Warhawk, officially priced and dated the upcoming expansion pack for Incognito’s online shooter. Operation: Broken Mirror has gone gold and will be available in the PlayStation Store on April 17th for $7.99. Same price as Omega Dawn, which is what we expected.

Here’s what you get with Broken Mirror:

  • 10 layouts on a brand new winter battlefield, Vaporfield Glacier.
  • 2 new Armored Personnel Carriers (Chernovan and Eucadian styles).
  • 10 bonus layouts for battlefields from the original game so that you can play with the APCs.

There’s a lot that went into this expansion, from crazy layouts to weather effects, etc. If you want all the juicy details, hit up PlayStation.Blog.

Warhawk - Operation: Broken Mirror Coming in April

Warhawk Screen

SCEE confirmed to CVG that the next expansion to Warhawk, Operation: Broken Mirror, will be released in early April in Europe. Most likely, the add-on will see a simultaneous release in North America. The pack is set for £3.99, which translates to roughly $8 USD.

In Broken Mirror, players will get to take control of a new APC vehicle and play on seven new areas in the new Vaporfield Glacier map.

“The Glacier is a new Eucadian stronghold where snowy conditions blanket an intricate network of freeways and towns, the hub of which is the war torn Radial Village,” says the official blurb.

“Desperate for an advantage, the Eucadian army has established a research base in the southern polar wastes, far away from the active battle fronts. However, there is a mole in the camp and secret intelligence has been leaked to the Chernovan command instigating a lethal invasion force.”

The new map will support from 4 to 32 players, depending on the game type and server. Look for more information soon as we get a concrete release date from SCEA.

Warhawk Patch v1.3 Trailer

Want to know what to expect with the new v1.3 patch for Warhawk? Here’s a trailer to show off the new elements in the game. The new elements look pretty bad ass. I just wish there was an easier way to create a party with your friends in the game.

Game With Loot Ninja - Warhawk on Monday Night

Warhawk Screen

We’re going to make this a weekly feature here at Loot Ninja. Once a week, we’ll be hosting a multiplayer gaming night where you can try your damndest to whoop our asses. This week we’ll be playing Monday night at 8pm ET. The game: Warhawk for PS3.

If you’re interested, drop a line in this post and/or send me a friend request on PS3 (”drunk_pandas”). We’ll be playing all sorts of maps and game types, whatever everyone decides.

We’ll be running polls for future game choices for the Game with Loot Ninja nights. If you have a suggestion, let us know.

Sony Games Pimp Out Home

PlayStation Home Screen

Sony is bringing their pimp hand strong with the Home spaces for some of their first party titles, most notably Uncharted, Resistance, and Warhawk.

With Resistance, you’ll be able to walk around unseen parts of the game, presumably with your Home avatar. Not sure if you’ll be able to brings friends with you or not at this point. Another cool feature in the Resistance space is the ability to listen “intercepted” radio communications between European and U.S. forces that are designed to give you a better idea of what’s going on in the Resistance story.

In the Uncharted space, you’ll be able to explore virtually all of the Uncharted levels with your Home avatar with no enemies. Again, no confirmation of being able to do this with friends. Uncharted’s space also brings a 2D side-scrolling shooter with Nathan Drake that’s being described as a cross between Contra and Out of This World. Sign me up!

Finally, and what I think is the absolute coolest, is the Warhawk space. The space will serve as a virtual war room for up to 8 players to strategize before entering the game. Yeah, discussing battle plans. Big deal, you say. Well get this… you’ll be using a virtual “sand table” of the level to plan our your attacks and defenses. Sony’s going as far as to let you place army men avatars on the sand table to better visualize your plan of attack. Holy dookers people.

This takes my hopes for Home and raises them way up. Sony is said to be pitching this to third party developers as a way to extend the life of their games and bolster community around them. I’m pretty sure it’ll work. Can’t wait for this to launch and most games to take advantage of this technology.

Warhawk Patch v1.3 Details

Warhawk Wrench Screen

Have you been playing a lot of Warhawk lately? I know I have. That dropship in the last contact pack is the shit. More content is on the way, in the form of patch v1.3. Dylan Jobe, the game’s director, dropped off some information on what we can expect from the update.

  • Mechanic’s Field Wrench - a new “weapon” that will allow you to fix your team’s vehicles rapidly. Swing the wrench at one of your vehicles and presto. It also works in reverse, where you can do damage to enemy vehicles with your wrench. With that, it’s also a one hit kill melee weapon against ground troops.
  • Bio-Field Generator - think of this as a proximity mine, but a biological weapon. Drop this thing of anywhere on the map. If your team walks in, it will instantly restore their health. But if enemis walk into the bio-reactive field, they’re health will deplete rapidly. Don’t worry, the fields are color coded for each team.
  • Home Game Launching - Warhawk games can be completely setup and customized with your party in Home. Get all your friends together in your apartment, create the game, and you’re off. Does this mean Home is coming pretty soon?
  • New VOIP Options - Everyone likes a little trash talking. With v1.3, you can choose between push-to-talk and open mic for chatting in-game. You can also tune the voice activation level, so you the mic won’t pick up your significant other yelling at you in the background. An “all talk” server option will also be made available, so everyone on the map can trash talk each other at the same time. And with all these options, the patch will make it so the names of the people talking are displayed on the screen to ease things a bit.
  • New Paint Schemes and Insignias - Remember that contest where the developers of Warhawk invited anyone to design their own paint schemes and insignias for the game? The winners will have their work added in v1.3. Pretty cool.

Definitely some cool new features, especially since it’s all free. I’ve said it a few times, but if you have a PS3 and don’t have Warhawk, you need to go buy the game (and make sure you have a bluetooth headset).

Design Your Own Warhawk Insignias and Paint Schemes

Omega Dawn Screen

Not content with sitting on their laurels (what exactly are laurels anyway?), developer extraordinare Incognito is running a contest for you to create your own paint schemes and insignias for Warhawk. The upcoming version 1.3 patch will include 50 user created insignias and 20 user created paint schemes, all chosen from this contest.

User created content is all the rage these days, and Incognito looks to be embracing it whole heartedly. The rules for the contest are pretty simple, but check them out here.

The submission deadline is February 15th at 11:59pm PST, so get designing people.

Warhawk: Omega Dawn Mini Review

Omega Dawn Screen

I’m calling this a mini-review because, well, it’s just an expansion pack. Operation Omega Dawn brings a good bit to the table for $7.99. You get a new map, Omega Dawn, which has 6 layouts. The map is huge with all kinds of intricate locations for ground and air combat. Along with the map, each of the 5 maps in the game get an additional layout to work with the new vehicle, the seven person KT-424 Combat Dropship. This thing is so sweet. If you can get organized enough with your team, you can fire six missile launchers to accompany the standard gun fire. It really decimates the other team if they can’t communicate and take down the dropship.

Going on a Christmas Vacation

Shitter FullJust like Clark Griswold, I’ll be taking my Christmas vacation this year. I’m leaving in a bit to go see family (both mine and my wife’s) and won’t be back until the day after Christmas. You might hear from me while I’m gone (if you’re nice, you’ll get a review of the Warhawk Omega Dawn Expansion Pack…).Supposedly the gift of music is waiting for me as my Mom told me to bring my PS3. Bought the Metallica track pack for Rock Band in anticipation. Can’t wait to see people trying to play who have absolutely no idea. I’m sure impressions and videos will follow :)To all of our readers, if I don’t speak with you, have a Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah (even though it’s over), or whatever you celebrate. I’m partial to Festivus myself. I have the annual airing of grievances and feats of strength scheduled for when I get back.
