I’m headed down to NYC for Comic Con, but a few guys will be playing online tonight in Warhawk on the PS3. It’s still one of the biggest online games of the PS3, so why not go back to it?
You know the drill… 9pm ET… PSN ID’s can be found on the About Us page. Both myself and Yaris will be there, so hit us up with friend requests or look for us online.
Incognito has continued to give amazing support to Warhawk on the PS3, adding to the gameplay experiences in many ways. Free patches with gameplay tweaks and additions, Trophy support, and now a third expansion pack, Operation: Fallen Star. For the cool price of $7.99, you get a new map, Tau Crater, as well as the new Icarus Mk.1 Rocket pack.
Sony hasn’t made any official announcements yet, but the promo video for the upcoming Warhawk expansion pack, Operation: Fallen Star, was posted up at Joystiq. The new pack, dated for next week (8/28 to be exact), will contain a new map with 10 new layouts as well as a new personal flight device. That’s complicated words for “you get a fucking jetpack”. Hell yeah. I’m all over this one, just like every other Warhawk expansion. Everything Incognito has brought to the game has been terrific, and this looks no different. Watch out for our review of Operation: Fallen Star shortly after it drops.
Warhawk is getting another free update around August 27th, making the game v1.5. Incognito has put in tons of effort to make the game better and better. Along with Trophies, here’s all you can expect from the new free content:
Custom In-Game Music – play music from the XMB music player
Training Tutorials – Four sections to bring you up to speed on all aspects of Warhawk (helps the newer players a ton)
Retract Clan Invites – Clan leaders can now un-invite people who just can’t hack it from joining their clans
New Paint Schemes & Insignias – You’ll be able to even further customize your look
GGL Ceremonial Blades – Gamers who participated in the GGL Tournament will get cool new swords to use as their melee weapons
“Rookie” Server Color-Coding – After you get done the Tutorials and before you rank up too far, you can join the green colored servers to play against people who won’t kick your ass too fast
That’s a ton of new stuff to keep you occupied. Warhawk is still one of the best online communities out there. If you haven’t joined in on the fun, get the game right away.
PS3 owners are having a good old time right about now. Yesterday, the Uncharted patch was released to add Trophy support. Today we get report that the Warhawk Trophy patch is coming August 27th.
No official word from SCEA yet, since this date was given for our European friends. I’m willing to bet they’ll be ready the same day.
We already knew that some Trophies could be awarded retroactively, but now we get to know that the coveted Trophies will be divided into four categories: Community Building, Game Mode, Vehicle and Warhawk Weapons. Can’t wait to see exactly what they’ll be. Hopefully more games with Trophy support come out soon, since this great new feature is being left alone as it is.
With Warhawk hitting the Greatest Hits line and getting Trophy support in the very near future, more people than ever will be checking out one of the best online experiences on the PS3 for the first time. Whether you’re new or you just suck, check out this video showing off some cool tips from Brady Games.
Dylan Jobe dropped by the official PlayStation forums and talked all about the upcoming Trophy support for Warhawk. No, they aren’t out yet. Soon, young Jedi. Soon.
Trophies are coming in update v1.5. But wait, v1.4 isn’t out yet. Don’t fret, as the two patches were developed in tandem and will be coming “very very very soon”. Yeah, I like the sound of that. There will be 56 achievements in all, with 10 being retroactive to medals and awards in the game. That’s right, if you already have them, you’ll automatically get the Trophies. Then there’s 34 achievements that are all new and have nothing to do with the current in-game medals. I’m betting things like a certain number of headshots, shooting down aircraft, etc. That leaves 12 more achievements. There will be 4 for each booster pack. But there’s only two out now, you so. Hmmm. Guess what’s coming…
Gotta give a lot of respect to Incognito for really staying behind the community of their game. Glad to see this awesome online shooter will be getting some nice updates and Trophies. Stay tuned as we get more information on a release date for both patches and the new booster pack.
Incognito is taking the Warhawk servers offline today from 1-7pm ET (10am-4pm PT) to update the games playlists and a bunch of other features. Dylan Jobe, head honcho over at Incognito, detailed all the updates on the official PlayStation forums.
By popular demand, playlists which include the largest layouts now include only the largest layouts. They will no longer occasionally rotate into medium layouts.
By popular demand, respawn times have been set to 3 seconds.
By popular demand, Broken Mirror servers now offer dedicated CTF and ZNS games in place of the mixed playlists.
Dogfight servers were added back to the list. They were inadvertently omitted before.
All games’ time limits were reduced to 15 minutes, and ZNS score limit was reduced to 5000, to combat complaints of prolonged base camping.
“NEWBIE” servers were changed to “Rookie” to bring the nomenclature in line with upcoming changes in v1.4.
“Pro” servers were changed to “Expert” to more obviously indicate a skill level rather than a player type. Some players incorrectly identified “Pro” servers as tournament games, a la MLG or GGL.
“Casual” servers are essentially the same as before, but the “Casual” designator has been dropped. We now refer to these internally as just “standard” servers, and they are listed without any special identifier.
The rank cap on Rookie servers was increased to Wingman, since players were getting kicked out of these servers too quickly and finding themselves unprepared to play on standard servers.
A rank cap was imposed on standard servers at Command Marshall. This is rank 15/19 so it should not affect a lot of players. The intention is to pull some of the most elite players out into their own category, somewhat narrowing the rank gap on these servers.
Many Omega Dawn exclusive servers were removed due to lack of use.
Some nice tweaks that the community has been asking for. I really have to hand it to Incognito as they have really catered to what the Warhawk community is looking for with these updates and patches. Keep up the good work!
Incognito has given some amazing support to Warhawk on the PS3, adding to the gameplay experience in many ways. The latest is the Operation: Broken Mirror expansion pack. For the cool price of $7.99, you get a new map, Vaporfield Glacier Battlefield, as well as the new Armored Personnel Carrier.
Vaporfield Glacier has ten layouts to support multiple game types, all of which are extremely well balanced with nice weapon and vehicle placement. Most layouts, with the exception of small Deathmatch layouts, feature the new Armored Personnel Carrier. The APC is quite possibly one of the best vehicles to get introduced to the game. It can hold 7 people (one driver, six passengers) for transport throughout the map. Each passenger can pop out of a hatch to shoot enemies as you drive by, so make sure you get some cool weapons before getting into the APC. Rocket launchers work best, so find them on the layout you’re playing. The APC has a brief turbo feature, allowing the driver to ram through and destroy smaller enemy vehicles in its path. It also has the ability to cast a E-Pod, or Electrostatic Plasma Ordinance Disrupter, which acts as a bubble shield for anyone to go inside to get away from bullets for a little while.
Fire up your copy of Warhawk on the PS3 today and you’ll be prompted for the new v1.3 patch. Here’s what this free update will give you:
BIO-FIELD EMITTER (Creates a zone of healing for allies and a zone of damage for enemies)
MECHANIC FIELD WRENCH (can be used to repair allied vehicles and turrets as well as damage enemy vehicles and turrets)
Integration of Contest Winner Insignias and Paint Schemes
.50cal turret targeting enhanced
Point value update for CTF defend and flag-carrier kill
CTF Sudden-Death trigger fix
Disabled CTF Flag throw/drop functionality
New VOIP Functionality
HOME Game-Launching
Incognito is definitely putting in a good deal of time and effort into making Warhawk a prolonged success. I wish more developers would be as forthcoming and dedicated to their games.
