I Want To Go To There!

By now we’ve all probably seen countless videos of the Left 4 Dead zombie apocalypse.  Hell, you have probably seen countless videos for Left 4 Dead 2 already!  If you haven’t, you’ve probably had more “important things” to do, or you have been living under a rock for the past year and a half.  There are modifications to the game maps for people to create, you can change the soundboard files to make the zombies sound different (please Google the Randy Savage soundboard hack), the funny commentary from fellow gamers as they are being used as pipe bombs.  It’s a pretty impressive library of gamer videos to peruse if you have a hundred hours to kill.

Every now and then a game video will rise to the top of the pile and be the cream of the crop.  For now, this is that video.  In the video, it combines the soothing sounds of Louis Armstrong’s “What A Wonderful World”, and the Left 4 Dead’s zombified horde.  Things do look better in slo-motion by the way, they just do.  It’s just something about the incredibly cheerful song set to one of the most dark, depressing looking, frustrating games on Expert out there that sets this apart.

Fairytales As You Always Wanted Them

Think hormonal teenager controlling hordes of minions running in a fairy tale world terrorizing elves, dwarfs, gingerbread men, and little red riding hood with a giant axe and you have a quick idea of Overlord Dark Legend.  For the Wii it should bring the dark side out of all those little kids playing with their families who are aching for destruction.  You know you are out there, disturbed and hunting for the tooth fairy.

Weapon of Choice: Alpha Protocol Walkthrough

Jason Bourne eat your heart out.  Alpha Protocol is taking on a bad ass look and feel to it that I really dig.  It’s part Bourne, part Solid Snake.  This game looks like it has a ton of replay value considering it’s built around constantly making decisions.  It seems to be shaping up as a real time RPG, instead of constantly pausing to decide what to do you have 5 seconds.  Might become a bit stressful but awesome at the same time.  I expect this to blow most other games out of the water, hopefully Obsidian will give the same treatment to Fallout: New Vegas.  Am I managing to mask my excitement?

More Diesel with Wheelman

Yesterday I received an email from Midway that confirmed to me a few things.  The first is Wheelman will be out in stores at the end of the week and here’s an awesome trailer for it.  Which is good news because that means second, Midway is still a functioning publisher and development house.  (In case you were unaware Midway is in bankruptcy court right now.)

I’ve spent some time with Wheelman demo on the Xbox 360  and honestly I’m a bit excited for this title.  Wheelman looks like all the fun bits of driving, shooting, and wanton destruction from GTA are filtered down to the right amounts, with the proper amount of storyline stripped away and the addition of one powerful dose of Diesel, Vin Diesel.   Which made for what I thought was such a great demo, that I preferred to play it over and over again and not write up the Impressions like I should have.  To make it up to you dear reader I will quickly sum it up: Graphics = Good, Controls = Good, Gameplay = Good.   It’s an action movie, but a video game, and the gimmick action moves didn’t seem to be repeated abusively.

Wheelman hits stores in Europe on 27-March and in North America on 24-March for PS3, Xbox 360 and PC.

Hellfire Gameplay Video for the iPhone/iPod Touch

Hellfire was created by the developers of another hit App Store game titled GTS World Racing. Hellfire puts you in control of two different military helicopters as you take part in 16 different missions across the globe.

Take a look at the video below to see if this title can meet your stringent standards.  Our first impressions of the accelerometer and touch based controls were fairly positive.  All I want to know is what is up with the green fingernails?  Hellfire is now available at the App Store for $4.99.

THQ’s First Original IP for iPhone/iPod Touch

Chop Sushi is THQ’s first foray into original mobile games.  Not to say that Chop Sushi is THQ’s first mobile game or that it was made specifically for the iPhone/iPod touch, it’s just not a port or a remake of an already established franchise.

Chop Sushi is categorized as the usual match-three style game but at least the animation looks adorable.  We haven’t had a chance to try this one out quite yet but we have included a video so you may decide for yourself.  The only concern I have is that the game is also available for mobile phones which could mean a lack of graphical polish.  An official press release is included after the jump.  Chop Sushi is available now at the App Store for $2.99.
