Rhythm games are getting a little long in the tooth. It’s going to take some innovation to keep people interested. Guitar Hero Van Halen doesn’t give anything new and, in fact, seems to strip previous features away. Taking the Guitar Hero 5 core gameplay and adding new character skins and songs, the game just doesn’t deliver.
I did a double take when I read a press release a few minutes ago from Activision. If you buy a specially marked copy of Guitar Hero 5 in the month of September, you will get an advanced copy of Guitar Hero Van Halen absolutely free. Holy shit people!
Guitar Hero 5 is dropping September 1st and this one hell of a deal. If you have a desire to get either game, run out to whatever game store you prefer in a few weeks and pick this one. Maybe even pre-order it, if you’re into that kind of thing.
I’m very much looking forward to Guitar Hero 5 with its new feature set, much more than previous iterations of the series. Maybe I’ll even shell out the money for the new drumset, since my Guitar Hero World Tour set has never worked right.
More Guitar Hero, this time will just Van Halen and bands like them. I doubt this will have anywhere near the level of impact as Guitar Hero Metallica, but I’m sure it’ll sell well. People love Guitar Hero and a large number of people love Van Halen. I don’t really fall into the latter category, but hey, who am I to judge.
