It looks like the newest Sega incarnation Phantasy Star Portable for the PSP has sold over 500,000 copies within its first week of release. Looks like the portable version is in competition with the big boys and giving Crisis Core a run for its money for the top spot.
Here are the numbers of the other Phantasy Star titles in their first week to give you a comparison:
Phantasy Star Online (Dreamcast) - 84,689
Phantasy Star Online V2 (Dreamcast) - 119,159
Phantasy Star Online Episode I & II (Gamecube) - 74,801
Phantasy Star Universe (Playstation 2) - 124,059
Phantasy Star Universe: Ambition of the Illuminus (Playstation 2) - 23,665
Hopefully this will be enough proof for Sega to take this game seriously and bring it over to Europe and North America; so far no official dates are listed for either.
CBS is looking to buy up CNET. CBS has offered to buy up all issued and outstanding shares of CNET Networks for $11.50 per share, for a grand total of $1.8 billion. Why bother? Because the acquisition will make CBS one of the 10 most popular Internet companies in the US, giving them a combined 54 million unique users per month and 200 million users worldwide. That is some serious reader base for that price tag and a quick rise to the top ten in one shot. I wonder how this will affect the different channels within the CNET Network, especially Gamespot?
Here is the official press release:
CBS Corporation To Acquire CNET Networks, Inc.
CBS to Become a Top Ten U.S. Internet Company with Unparalleled Content and Reach, Boasting Approximately 200 Million Monthly Unique Users Worldwide CNET Networks’ CNET, ZDNet, GameSpot.com, TV.com, CNET News, UrbanBaby, BNET, CHOW and Search.com, Among Others, To Be Combined with CBS Corporation’s National and Local Interactive Businesses Read More »

The good news first. If you are in US or Europe, the Skype update will come on time to coincide with the firmware update do out sometime at the end of the month. There is a problem with the Japanese microphones that is causing this delay. The apparently do not reach the standards for the Japanese release, yet the Western equivalent does. Hmm. Either way, sucks for Japan. Not sure how well Skype is going to do anyway, but its nice to see the Western hemi not get screwed once again.
