You might want to fire up that copy of Gears of War one more time before Friday. There are a couple of achievements you need to unlock some cool multiplayer skins for the sequel. Specifically, you’ll want to complete Act 1 on any difficulty, collect 1/3 or more of the COG tags, and beat the game on Insane (yeah, that’ll happen quickly). Check out all the collectibles you can snag:
Insane Difficulty - Complete the game in any difficulty
Character: Dizzy Wallin - Complete Act 1 on any difficulty. This is a Multiplayer Character
Character: Kantus - A Locust monk. Complete Act 2 on any difficulty. This is a Multiplayer Character
Character: Tai Kaliso - Complete Act 3 in any difficulty. This is a Multiplayer Character.
Character: Flame Grenadier - Complete Act 4 in any difficulty. This is a Multiplayer Character.
Character: Skorge - Leader of Kantus Monks. Complete Act 5 in any difficulty. This is a Multiplayer Character.
Character: Anthony Carmine - Complete any of the Act 1 Achievements from Gears of War 1.
Character: RAAM - Locust Army Leader in GoW1. Unlock “A Dish Best Served Cold” achievement from Gears of War 1.
Character: Lt. Minh Young Kim - Former Delta Squad Leader. Unlock “Time to Remember” achievement from Gears of War 1.
Good stuff here. It’s nice to see Epic offering some multiplayer unlocks for getting through the game, similar to the Halo 3 armor unlocks. I’m sure we’ll be seeing a lot of these Friday night when we team up for Gears 2 like whoa. Yes, I said like whoa.
Let me start by saying that I had my doubts about this game coming to a handheld due to the complexity and great gameplay of the console versions, but I was pleasantly surprised by Ninja Gaiden on the Nintendo DS. It is innovative in many ways, the style in which the DS is held (sideways) and the character are controlled (100% stylus control) are unique and add to the gaming experience. Ryu Hyabusa never looked better on the go.
Presentation and Graphics: Mini Ryu Hyabusa looks great on the Nintendo DS. Cut scenes are done in very appealing anime style clips, much like reading a comic book. The hack and slash is done very well on the touch screen and the other screen serves as a map to guide you along your travels. 8.5 of 10 Read More »
Let me start off by saying that I would have had this Rainbow Six Vegas 2 review up sooner if I wasn’t playing so many hours of the game. RSV2 picks up where the first game left off and builds on a winning formula by polishing up gameplay elements and making the experience more full. RSV2 gives you both an engrossing off-line and on-line experience that it tries hard to mix together in order to keep gamers interested.
Presentation & Graphics: The graphics on RSV2 are great; explosions, flashbangs and blood spatter all look realistic. There are some funny physics at times when you shoot enemies and they go flying, but nothing that won’t just make you laugh. Level designs are great, providing cover where appropriate and really emphasizing the theme of the particular map. One of my favorite maps is the convention center where you can fight among the different convention booths and boxes, which makes it feel like a real convention. 9 of 10
Yesterday, it was uncovered how to play God of War II in HD on your PS2/PS3. Just hold L1, L2, L3, Square and Circle as you boot up the game to access HD mode. Of note, this isn’t 720p, it’s actually a Full Buffer 480p, which makes it much prettier than the standard game, but not as good as true 720p. You can see a screen grab of the Island of Creation site here.
Anyway, here’s a video of the game running in HD mode.
In case that wasn’t good enough for you, here’s the HD version.
