It was previously reported as UFC 2007 in all trailers and materials, which hinted at a release this year.
Now, GameTrailers has re-posted the E3 trailer we saw last week, this time calling it “UFC 2009″. I can only pray we don’t have to wait over a year for this game. THQ should have had ample time to develop this game to this level for a release this year.
This has got to be the most sought after game in the brief history of Loot Ninja. We’re all huge UFC fans and have been craving a great MMA game for some time now. Well, the wait will soon be over as THQ is bringing UFC 2007 to the PS3 and Xbox 360 later this year. In case you don’t know, that’s Chuck “The Iceman” Liddell and Quinton “Rampage” Jackson fighting in the trailer.
Either this trailer is CGI, or I just spilled yogurt in my pants. The graphics and gameplay are stunning.
With the thriving nature of UFC and the licensing rights of the UFC being grabbed up by THQ through 2011, we can only speculate that a new next gen UFC game is in the works. The original UFC games for the Dreamcast were solid in gameplay and graphics, but flawed when it came to the AI. Just imagine creating yourself as a UFC fighter, using the Xbox camera to scan in your face, and being able to match up against Tito Ortiz, Matt Hughes or any of the Gracie’s. Even sweeter now is the prospect of having both the UFC and Pride FC lineup available for this game. We look forward to seeing some UFC action on our next gen consoles soon.
It’s been a pretty busy weekend for the UFC. Between another Ultimate Fight Night and the premire of the new season of The Ultimate Fighter on Thursday and UFC69 on Saturday there has been no shortage of action. Read More »
It’s no secret we’re all huge MMA fans here. I don’t miss a single fight in most of the bigger fighting venues.
In a huge turn of events today, UFC bought Pride Fighting, which was their major competitor. This will bring upon giant fights between the worlds best MMA fighters. Ever wanted to see Wanderlei Silva fight Andre Arlovski or Randy Couture? Now you might get to.
Lorenzo Fertitta, one of the UFC’s owners, had this to say:
This is really going to change the face of MMA. Literally creating a sport that could be as big around the world as soccer. I liken it somewhat to when the NFC and AFC came together to create the NFL.
He’s dead on too. MMA has been a huge draw in Asia for years, and has recently picked up steam in the US and Europe. Now, with the biggest names all on one card, it can only go uphill for fans.
Now if we can only get a good MMA game on current-gen consoles…
Just a reminder that UFC 67: All or Nothing is Live tonight on Pay Per View. This is the first UFC event to be shown live in HD. Hopefully Time Warner will have the HD feed…
Big news regarding the event, The Ultimate Fighter 4 winner Travis Lutter, who was scheduled to fight Anderson Silva for the Middleweight Title, missed weight. The fight will still happen, but not as a title fight. Lutter missed the 185 lb mark by 1.5 lbs after two attempts to weigh in. After the first attempt, he went back for 2 hours to cut more weight, only to lose 0.5 lbs. It’s pretty sad, really. The guy worked his ass off to win TUF 4 and get a title shot, only to have it completely take away by not making weight. Come on man, you just blew your dream on something stupid.
Anyway, should be a great PPV tonight, with the debuts of Quinton “Rampage” Jackson and Mikco Cro Cop, two of the world’s best.
[Update] So apparently, Time Warner is retarded. I just called and was on hold for 25 minutes to ask about the HD feed for the event. The <sarcasm> wonderful </sarcasm> guy I talked to told me, and I quote, “UFC is never going to provide an HD feed. Wherever you got your information is clearly wrong.” My response: “So the giant banner images on ufc.com and interviews with UFC President Dana White promoted the first HD PPV are all clearly wrong?” He stammered a little bit, then said “Yeah they’re wrong. They’re not talking about any PPV events.” This guy is clearly a winner.
Huge news from former UFC light heavyweight and two time heavyweight champion Randy Couture yesterday… he’s coming back! Randy retired after a loss to Chuck Liddell back in February 2006. He’s decided to come back… but no longer as a light heavyweight. Couture will return as a heavyweight and challenge the current champ, Tim “The Maniac” Sylvia, for the title at UFC 68 in Ohio on March 3, 2007. WOW! That’s all I can say. I’m looking forward to seeing Captain America back in action, and against the 6′8″ giant. He must have seen something in Sylvia’s fight against Jeff Monson that made him think he could take “The Maniac”.
It’s gonna be an insane year for the UFC, with both Quinton “Rampage” Jackson and Mirko Cro Cop both joining the UFC this year.
I have to say UFC 66 turned out to be a very good showing of fights and MMA action. It had a good mix of styles represented and each fight that aired proved to be entertaining. The main event being the highlight of the night was worth the cost of the PPV alone, but I’ll run through the under card quickly before getting to that.
Michael Bisping vs. Eric Schafer - Bisping controlled this fight for the most part and ended it with a TKO via strikes.
Jason MacDonald vs. Chris Leben - Leben controlled most of the striking, but got done in with a killer rear naked choke that put his lights out in the second round.
Arlovski vs. Cruz - Arlovski won with a well timed punch after the referee stopped the fight to warn Arlovski to not strike with kicks while his opponent was on the floor. The delay gave Arlovski time to plan out his strike and knockout Cruz, the assist goes to the referee.
Jardine vs. Griffin - To me this was both one of the best fights and most surprising fights. Jardine came out and controlled the fight and finished Forrest in the first round with some great strikes. Forrest tried to hold on, but just couldn’t and was overwhelmed by punches both standing and on the ground. Of most surprise was Forrest’s reaction to the loss, he cried after the fight in the octagon and then when interviewed had nothing more to say than ” I got knocked the fuck out!”
MAIN EVENT
Liddell vs. Ortiz - The main event was electric as both fighters came into the ring confident and determined. The first round was controlled by Liddell with him actually almost knocking Ortiz out with a left cross that sent him down as he pummeled him with punches on the canvas, Ortiz somehow survived and the fight went on. Second round came around and you could see that Chuck gained a lot of confidence after the first round while Ortiz was shaken, Ortiz did get some strikes in along with a takedown to squeeze out that round in my opinion. Third round starts and Chuck still looks strong and begins to pick apart Ortiz with strikes, Ortiz goes for a counter and Liddell drops him and finishes the fight with hammer strikes on the canvas. Like Ortiz said he “brought his A game” it just wasn’t enough.
