Turok Movie Lead Cast

Adam Beach

Another video game franchise is going to be made into a movie. Turok, the American-Indian dinosaur hunter is going have his own feature film that will star actor Adam Beach, best known for his roles in Flags of our Fathers. He was also the firework salesmen/Veterinarian in Joe Dirt.

He’s the first Native American superhero that I ever looked up to,” he said. He basically [comes from] a family where they’re protecting our universe from an alternate universe that wants to take it over. He uses his wits, and his might, and his special bow and arrow to take over the world.

If you say so Adam. There has not been a good Turok game in about ten years and there is no reason to believe that the movie is going to be any better.

Demo Impressions for Turok on Xbox 360

turok.jpgWhen I first heard of a new installment of the Turok series, I was cautiously optimistic. The first 2 games were awesome, then the series sort of trailed into obscurity. The demo has recently been released and I gave it a good play through. Needless, to say, I was not that impressed at all. You start in this cave with a fellow NPC who keeps telling you to hurry up or he will leave you…? Yeah, thanks dick. Anyway, random dinosaurs are roaming around and leap at you. The weapons are rather basic and no one tells you that you can use your knife for an easy kill(until much later) unless you do it out of exploration. The knife kills are way too easy though; taking a Raptor down with a blade can’t be that simple.

Anyway, you exit the caves and end up fighting some soldiers in a lush jungle. The graphics here are decent, but nowhere nearing the status of eye-opening. They tell you now how to stealth kill, which you can do, until one soldier spots you, and all hell breaks loose. You then fight your way through the tide of enemies and the demo ends. Its surprisingly short for a 1.2gb download.

All in all, this seems just like another FPS trying to make a name for itself. The demo did not show much. The voice over work is sub-par and the game play is nothing to write home about. The game does not look bad, but there is and will be plenty of FPS’s on the way that will trample Turok. This will likely be destined to the “maybe rent”dimension. Not what the developers had in mine.

Turok Demo Shows Up On Xbox 360 in North America

North American Xbox 360 gamers have been waiting ever so patiently to get their hands on the Turok demo. The rest of the Xbox world and all PS3 gamers have already had a crack at it. But fear not, as the demo is now available in the US, Canada, and Mexico.

I’ve played the demo on both the 360 and PS3 and wasn’t terribly impressed. Maybe you’ll have other thoughts.

Turok Demo Coming to PS3 on February 7th

Most regions, except North America, got the Turok demo on Xbox 360 this week. PS3 owners are left in the dark right now in those regions. However, a firm date was released for the demo, at least in the UK. You can fire up the PlayStation Store on February 7th and grab the demo.

If you don’t live in the UK and the game doesn’t magically make it to North America, you can always create a UK account on your PS3 to grab anything from other regions.

I’m really not all that excited for Turok. Like I said before, none of the gameplay I’ve seen has wow’d me. Just seems like another FPS with dinosaurs involved and some cool weapons.

Turok Demo Available on Xbox 360… But Not in North America

Turok Screenshot

Major Nelson let everyone know that a demo for Turok is now available… but not in North America. You can get it in almost every other region that has Xbox Live: Australia, Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Hong Kong, India, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Portugal, Singapore, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan and United Kingdom.

Turok is an epic, story-driven first-person shooter set on a dark, mysterious planet in the future. Players take on the role of Joseph Turok, a former black ops commando, now part of an elite special forces squad, known as Whiskey Company, which is on a mission to take down a war criminal – Turok’s former mentor, Roland Kane. While Whiskey Company is traveling to the genetically altered planet inhabited by Kane and his soldiers, Whiskey Company’s ship is shot down. Turok must use his elite military training to elude Kane’s well-trained army, known as Mendel-Gruman, and the ravenous, unpredictable dinosaurs, huge insects and other massive creatures that populate the dangerous environment. Turok’s mission? Survive at all costs.

I’m torn on this title. I loved first two Turok games, but I haven’t been wow’d by the gameplay in the latest installment. Hopefully we’ll get the demo in the US soon so we can test it out.

Turok Gameplay

I have to say that Turok back in the day never really got my interest, perhaps the fact that I just can’t believe that a rather large dinosaur would die from a gunshot was the casue. Although looking at the multiplayer aspect and some of the action scenes has gotten me quite interested in this title. Nothing says good times like shanking a dinosaur with a rather large knife.

Turok Gets A-List Voice Acting

Turok Screenshot

Well, it’s not A-List for movies, but it’s certainly A-List in the video game world. Actors are lining up to lend their voices to Turok. Here’s a sampling of what you can expect in the game:

The realism of Turok and his team’s terrifying circumstance is conveyed through the distinguished voice talent. Gregory Norman Cruz provides the voice of Joseph Turok and the other members of Whiskey Company are: Timothy Olyphant (as Cowboy), Ron Perlman (Slade), Donnie Wahlberg (Shepard), William Fichtner (Logan), Mark Rolston (Cole), Chris Judge (Jericho), Lombardo Boyar (Gonzales), Gideon Emery (Reese), Josh Gomez (Parker), Jon Curry (Foster), Jason Harris (Carter) and Steve Van Wormer (Henderson).

This seems to be a continuing trend in the industry, and I can only hope it continues and grows. The more epic and film-like games are made, the more immersive the experience.
