Reader Review: Tony Hawk’s Proving Ground Demo (Xbox 360)

Tony Hawk’s Proving Ground ScreenThe next in the series of Reader Reviews comes from Jersey_STi, a good friend of mine. He took on the behemoth that is Tony Hawk’s Proving Ground. Well, the demo for the Xbox 360 that is. Here’s his review:First, off the bat, Tony Hawk’s Proving Ground, is not, and will not be the same as EA’s Skate which is coming out. If you are looking for a skate game that you can turn on and jump right into and feel comfortable playing, Proving Ground is the game to buy. But if you want a challenge and feel as if you are really skating and learn what it is like to actually skate. EA’s Skate is the way to go.With Proving Ground, if you have previously played any Tony Hawk game, then you wont have a problem clicking the buttons and exploring the levels that it has planned out. The few things they seemed to have added in the demo would be the 3 different skating lives you can chose to go into. Hit the jump for more »

Tony Hawk’s Proving Ground Demo for Xbox 360 and PS3

Tony Hawk’s Proving Ground Screen

Activision sent out a press release letting us know that a demo for Tony Hawk’s Proving Ground is now available for Xbox 360 and will be released this afternoon for the PS3 in the regularly scheduled PlayStation Store update.

The demo takes skaters to Philadelphia (one of three cities in Tony Hawk’s Proving Ground) to begin shredding the pavement as contest-winning Career Athletes, fast and furious Hardcore Skaters and creative maverick Riggers, who alter and modify the world into their own skate park. As players progress they will experience the latest advancements in the world-renowned franchise, including Nail the Grab, for the ultimate control of grab tricks and tweaks; the Aggro Kick for clearing huge gaps; Rigging goals, enabling players to tweak the environment however they want to create unique skate lines; and video creation with the full-featured video editor for epic skate videos.

Personally, I think the series is played out and should just be retired for a while. The yearly iterations with very little innovation are killing the game.

Guitar Hero III Demo Included in Tony Hawk’s Proving Ground for Xbox 360

Guitar Hero 3 Screenshot

Xbox 360 owners will get a treat with a Guitar Hero III demo coming in October. The 5 song demo will be included on the 360 version of Tony Hawk’s Proving Ground on October 9th and two weeks later on the Xbox Live Marketplace.

The demo features five tracks set in the Desert Rock Tour venue. Players will be able to rock out to:

  • Lay Down (by Priestess)
  • Even Flow (by Pearl Jam)
  • The Metal (by Tenacious D)
  • Hit Me with your Best Shot (as made famous by Pat Benatar)
  • Rock You like a Hurricane (as made famous by Scorpions)

Good selections there for a the demo. Too bad it’s not going to really move more copies of Proving Ground. I’m just going to wait for the demo to hit the Marketplace. I still haven’t decided whether I’m getting this and Rock Band for PS3 or 360.

You might be wondering why there’s no demo for the PS3. My guess is because no guitar is available yet for the PS3, so a demo would be pointless since you need to buy the game to get the guitar anyway.

Tony Hawk’s Proving Ground Debut Trailer

Here’s the first trailer for the latest Tony Hawk Game game, Proving Ground.

I think we’ve all had our fill of skating games, and Proving Ground takes a turn to try and bring people back to the genre. This year, you don’t have to master every skill if you don’t want. Don’t like manuals and ground tricks? Don’t do them. It’s your choice.

This could bring more enjoyment for people that only like one portion of the game. We’ll see in time.

Here’s your HD lovin.

Tony Hawk’s Proving Ground Coming Soon

GamePro Tony Hawk Proving Ground Cover

GamePro has some new details about Tony Hawk’s Proving Ground, the newest in the skating game series, coming to PS3 and Xbox 360 this year. Full details will be provided in their July 2007 Issue.

It looks like the game will see the return of the Nail the Trick mode. New features include skater classes, a full featured video editor, and a revamped multiplayer, among other things.

Personally, I think the series is beyond played out. There better be some huge innovations here, or else I don’t see a point in playing anymore.
