I honestly would have never thought that the game industry could be so… yucky! Barrington Harvey, part of Eidos UK’s PR firm, has sent out a message asking all outlets to withhold any reviews of Tom Raider: Underworld with scores below 8/10 until Monday, as per Guy Cocker (what a name) - a Gamespot UK writer. I’m curious to find out what would happen if the game received scores below 8/10 all across the board from any credible reviewers.
When Eidos UK was confronted by videogaming247, a Harvey representative stated that the company is, at the request of Eidos, “trying to get the Metacritic rating to be high” and that the US brand manager for the game wants the company to “manage the scores before the game is out.” If this isn’t the most pathetic shit I’ve heard…
It seems like Eidos has a little poopy coming down their pants with their experience(s) with last year’s Kane & Lynch which didn’t do as well as they expected. With Eidos having any doubts about the next installment of Tomb Raider, it kind of makes me question the game’s play value. As a developer, I would assume that you would go out with as much optimism as possible when you release your game to the public. Not everyone can be Epic or Sony Santa Monica Studios, for crying out loud. I’m thinking about picking this one up simply because I just think that Lara Croft is ridiculously hot. Erherm..
But, let’s see what happens when the reviews start pouring in. Greatness is only in the eye of the beholder. You can’t always rely on everyone else’s opinion of what is “great.” You’re always going to have those that damn a game to the fiery pits of hell and others that praise it like some sort of deity. It happens, Eidos.
Ever wonder what the backstory to the new Tomb Raider game is and furthermore what drives Lara Croft to don those butt shorts and go looking for lost shit? I actually kind of do. Check out this latest trailer which gives us the skinny on all things Lara.
People are calling Tomb Raider Anniversary one of the best in years and we get a new Lara and a new game that looks to be all sorts of awesome. The series fell to absolute shit in the early decade and many thought it was dead. Expect to hear a lot about Tomb Raider in the coming months
From the too good to be true files, Eidos has now made internet history. Lara Croft, the first female gaming star and spank bank fodder for fanboys everywhere has been tainted. The latest model to portray Lara has some grooming problems to say the least. Grooming problems of the female nature as if she had Don King in a leglock. You’re going to have to see this for yourself. The picture is borderline NSFW, so its after the jump. Beware, you may be a changed person.
Tomb Raider Anniversary Edition gets the nod for October 26th release on the Xbox 360 to stores and then will have episodic content available for download on the Xbox Live Marketplace in November in two parts. Looks like Tomb Raider just won’t go away, people find a need to relive their glory days of 1996 and make Lara fight tigers and bears and stuff. Not a big fan so I will hold off on this one. Here’s a cool Developer Diary from the new Tomb Raider Anniversary for the PS2. The graphics look great for PS2 and the gameplay looks spot on, just like Tomb Raider Legend.
If you’re a Tomb Raider fan, this game is a must get.
