Tiger Woods PGA Tour for the iPhone is now 30% off, so you can grab the game for $6.99 instead of its normal $9.99. If you haven’t bought this game yet and like golf, go grab this one now. No, I mean it, go now.
Most of you know my affection for golf and golf games. I’ve been playing Tiger Woods on my iPhone the past week and absolutely love it. It’s easily the best golf game I’ve played on the iPhone (surpassing my previous favorite, Let’s Golf!). The courses, PGA Tour mode, and the amount of players to choose from are all amazing for the price. If you immediately want to play the 18th at Pebble Beach or the the 17th at TPC Sawgrass, you can.
I haven’t had this much fun with a portable golf game since the first Tiger Woods game on the PSP. You can play with up to 4 people by passing your iPhone around, which is a nice feature. The only thing missing is some form of online or ad-hoc multiplayer. Even without that, this game is awesome and worth every penny.
A lot of you weighed in on what version of Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10 I should buy this year, and I took that all into account. I was ready to head down to my local Best Buy and pick up the game last night… until I saw all the DLC released for the game. Don’t get me wrong, I love when developers support their games with DLC. But releasing a new course for $7.50 and more cheat-codes-for-money than I can count? That’s not something I want to support.
It was a big deal before, and I spoke with my wallet by not buying those cheat codes for previous Tiger Woods games. This year, I’m speaking with my wallet even further. I refuse to buy the game. Charging gamers $3.75 to get Max Stats on their golfer or $1.99 for Expert Wedges (and Irons, Fairway Woods, Drivers, and Putters) is bullshit. They’ve turned it up a notch this year with how much and the amount of cheat codes you can buy.
If any of you feel the same way, I encourage you to not buy the game as well. Let your money do the talking and don’t give it to EA.
I’m an avid golfer, if you weren’t already aware. I get out and play at least 1-2 times a week during the summer and supplement my time year-round with Tiger Woods games. Last year I made the switch from the HD consoles to the Wii. While I enjoyed the game a lot, I found myself playing less since I had to get up out of my chair.
This year, with Wii Motion Plus, it could be even better. But will I play it more than 2009’s version? Since I’m on the fence, I’m asking you all what version you think I should buy. The Wii, Xbox 360, or PS3? To go back in time, I had Tiger Woods 08 on PS3 and 07 on Xbox 360.
Saw this info from EA this morning and said “OOOOH” out loud. I’m an avid golfer, so whenever a new Tiger Woods game drops, I’m on it like Scuba on a cupcake. The demo is available right now on the Xbox 360 and will be available on the PSN later today with its regularly scheduled update.
Playing through the demo gives you two holes on both Bethpage Black and Turnberry, as well as a Tournament Challenge on the 17th at TPC Sawgrass.
Right now, I’m on the fence about whether I want to pick up this year’s iteration. I have 09 for the Wii and really enjoy that, but we’ll see what happens after I play the demo. It’s taking forever to download at 1.57gb.
Even though there still is snow on the ground in many places in the country, it is never too early to promote golf. Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10 will be the golf game to get this year, primarily because there are no other true golf sims out there. I hope they are not running out of ideas because the last few have really been just updated courses as opposed to a new title. Note its called Tour 10 now, not 2010. A trend most EA games will probably follow.
I love golf. One small problem: I sort of suck at it. I wasn’t bad when i was younger, but good golf clubs are expensive and it’s not like i can afford to join Bushwood anytime soon. So, playing real golf, outside of drunken par 3 at a pitch and putt place was put to the side. That is until Tiger Woods PGA Tour 09 All Play came along. This is the closest thing to real golf I have ever played and for the first time in, well, ever, my Wii is getting some much needed use.
A gamer posted a YouTube video last year where Tiger shot a ball out of the water, while standing on it. An obvious glitch in the game right? This new viral ad shows just how good Tiger is. Now if he can only turn some water into some purple kool-aid. Kidding.
When Tiger Woods first hit the scene, the game not the golfer, people were instantly hooked. Since then, it has become a staple of the EA Sports family and every year we are treated with a new release. Like many of EA’s sports games, not much has changed from year to year and gamers are not as quick to grab the latest version. This video comparison is of last year’s and the current versions. The 09′ looks much better, but will their be any new features instead of a view new courses and original characters?
I’ve been a big fan of the Tiger Woods series for years. I’m an avid golfer, both in real life and in the video game realm. There’s been times when I’ve been known to play Tiger Woods for 36 hours straight. This year delivers a solid gameplay experience, but falls short of expectations. Here is a breakdown of some of the facets of Tiger Woods 08 for the PS3:
Presentation and Graphics: Tiger Woods 08 is not much of an improvement over the 07 iteration. In fact, minus some minor character model tweaks, I don’t see much different from last year’s title in terms of graphics. I understand this is a yearly title, but I expected a bit more refining done in this area. The overall presentation of the game has been changed dramatically, which is a plus. When you first start up the game, you’re taken to a lobby with giant screens, similar to EA’s offerings for other sports games this year. It would have been cool if each area of the game brought you into a different room, as there’s no much there in the main menus. Contrary to other EA titles, the giant room and screen are just for show. In NBA Live and FIFA games, you can run around and practice. This isn’t the case in Tiger Woods 08. Hopefully these small presentation tweaks are incorporated next year. The last big new feature is the Photo Game Face, where you can take your picture with a USB camera and map it onto your character’s face. In multiple attempts both on the console and EA’s website, I have little luck in getting my Game Face to look anything like me. The process takes a good 10-15 minutes to complete, and sitting for that time and getting poor results on multiple occasions is very disheartening. It’s a great concept, but doesn’t deliver how it should. 3.5 of 5
I got a copy of Tiger Woods 08 for the PS3 to play around with and I’m pleasantly surprised with the game. Sure, it’s another year without major improvements, but EA refined the title in ways to make it more fun.
The graphics aren’t much different than the 07 edition, other than addition of more courses and golfers. The biggest additions come in the Tiger Challenge and the swing mechanics. In the Tiger Challenge, you no longer just go from one golfer to another in match play. You now have to complete 6-8 mini challenges before facing off against one of the game’s major golfers. With each defeat of each major golfer, your skill potential will increase (usually 10%), which you need to train your golfer to get their stats to that level. Thankfully there is no cheat to buy on the PS3 to max the stats of your golfer. Who knows if and when that will change. A new addition to the swing is the ability to draw or fade the ball easily with the L1 and R1 buttons. This makes it easier than trying to aim properly and swing at an angle with the analog stick.
