Review: Destroy All Humans! Path of the Furon

Open environment games usually require you to commit a good amount of time to completing all of the objectives that are available.  Destroy All Humans! Path of the Furon is no different, there are many hours to be had playing all the main and side quests, but it boils down to will you want to?

You play Crypto, a snarky furon alien.  The game begins with Crypto living the high life, owning a casino without a care in the world.  The casino gets attacked and you are forced to uncover the conspiracy behind it all.  On your path you learn various skills that are progressively unlocked throughout the game on your mission to destroy the evil Emperor Meningitis.  Yeah, you read it correctly.

Review: WWE Smackdown vs RAW 2009 (Xbox 360)

My favorite gaming memories are the ones I experienced when I was sitting in my dorm room, half-bombed with my roommates playing WWF No Mercy. Wrestling games were the total multiplayer experience. It was often every man for themselves and more often than not, alliances were broken and deals were made so the best player did not always win. Or that feeling you get when you are doing a Royal Rumble and its on random and your buddy gets Stone Cold Steve Austin and then you run out as the Faboulous Moolah. Wrestling games were as unpredictable as they were fun and WWW Smackdown vs RAW 2009 may be one the best wrestling games to come out in awhile.

Fans of the WWE SvR series will notice that not a lot of changes have been made, but there have been some nice upgrades and tweaks to make the game very enjoyable. There are a ton of match options, rules, and match types that you can experience in the game and they make it very easy to choose which. Every match can be easily chosen and/or tweaked to your liking and this makes for a great overall experience. People had complained that the menus were not changed from years’ past, but it is not flashy yet it gets the job done. No one crucifies EA Sports when their menus have had little change in the past. A great tweak this year is the ability to change the AI of your opponents creating a truly customizable difficulty. Veterans of the franchise will likely turn it up for a challenge while newcomers will start out at retarded levels of intelligence.

Going On’s in the Game Industry

In the turbulent times we are living globally, I thought it would be relevant to highlight some of the industry happenings as there are potential impacts to the gaming public.  Hopefully this will continue as semi-regular Loot-Ninja feature.  The following have been the recent headlines in no particular order.  Hit the links for the Loot-Ninja articles.

Lots of grim news financially and lots of studios shutting down, downsizing, rightsizing, etc.  The global recession taking a toll on the gaming industry, probably.  The above news updates are pretty similar to latest news in the banking industry.  In case you’ve been living in a cave for the past year that means things are not very good.

Review: Saints Row 2 (Xbox 360)

This opening sentence is supposed to be about how Saints Row 2 and every other open world style game is a clone of GTA IV.  I am not going to touch on that at all in this review for a couple of reasons.  First, you have heard it all before, so what’s the point?  Second, I have never actually finished GTA IV so I don’t have the ability to compare and contrast the two games.  Saints Row 2 is new to me and for that reason I get to take it for what it is, I consider this an advantage.

Saints Row 2’s storyline picks up where the first one left off.  Your character has been blown up and in a coma for the last couple of years.  The game begins with your character getting busted out of the hospital while teaching the basic controls and back-story.  When your character gets out, he realizes his gang has been shattered and it will have to be rebuilt to take back the city of Stilwater.

THQ Versus Activision Blizzard

THQ has filed a lawsuit against Activision Blizzard for copyright infringement regarding box art.  The lawsuit was filed on October 23rd stating that Activision’s SCORE International Baja 1000: The Official Game box art too closely resembles THQ’s earlier released title Baja: Edge of Control.  THQ has said that the box art is intended to confuse and deceive customers into thinking the titles are somehow related.  THQ also alleges that they have contacted Activision on “several occasions” to change the box art but Activision had refused.

Take a gander at the photos above and decide for yourself if THQ has a valid arguement.  If you aren’t convinced by the photos and are extremely bored with life in general, a PDF copy of the complaint can be downloaded here.

Review: de Blob (iPhone)

I’ve been intrigued by de Blob ever since the first Wii videos and info were released. When I heard the game was coming to the iPhone, it seemed like a logical step. The iPhone’s tilt and touch controls fit the game’s style and theme nicely. de Blob looks to be a solid hit for the Wii, but does it translate well to Apple’s mobile device?

The Force Unleashed Coming to iPhone

I’m going to be all over this like a fat kid on a cupcake. iPhone gaming is really ramping up and THQ looks to take full advantage of the new platform by bringing The Force Unleashed to Apple’s mobile phone. Check out a bit of the game in action and drool until we can actually play this.
