I’ve been intrigued by de Blob ever since the first Wii videos and info were released. When I heard the game was coming to the iPhone, it seemed like a logical step. The iPhone’s tilt and touch controls fit the game’s style and theme nicely. de Blob looks to be a solid hit for the Wii, but does it translate well to Apple’s mobile device?
I’m going to be all over this like a fat kid on a cupcake. iPhone gaming is really ramping up and THQ looks to take full advantage of the new platform by bringing The Force Unleashed to Apple’s mobile phone. Check out a bit of the game in action and drool until we can actually play this.
You’ve seen the trailer; you’ve read the press release. Now check out all the cool stills from an in-game fight between Forrest Griffin and Rampage Jackson. These are two of my favorite fighters (I’m an insanely huge UFC fan, by the way). Can’t wait to see them actually get it on July 5th.
Check out all the other cool shots after the jump. This is one of my most anticipated games for Spring 2009.
GameTrailersTV had the first gameplay footage of UFC 2009 Undisputed. Holy shit this looks amazing. Real refs, real corner men, real commentators. This is what an MMA should be. THQ looks to be hitting a home run for the Spring 2009 release. You can count me in.
THQ sent out a press release which got me all antsy in the pantsy. It’s no secret that I’m a huge UFC fan, so any game based on MMA gets me all excited. THQ will be releasing UFC 2009 Undisputed in Spring 2009 on the Xbox 360 and PS3. Oh yeah, mobile phones too. Holla.
A brand new fighting game engine designed specifically for next generation systems will deliver innovative, responsive and easy-to-play controls that give unparalleled command of fighters, as players take down opponents with a variety of mixed martial arts disciplines like Muay Thai, Kickboxing and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. In addition, the game’s Create-A-Fighter system will jumpstart the careers of future champions through character customization and training management, while a robust Career Mode will develop a fighter’s attributes and skill sets while fighting to enter the UFC Hall of Fame through a series of dynamic storylines. Furthermore, players will be able to enhance their UFC 2009 Undisputed gameplay experience through online support, including downloadable content.
There’s going to be 80 licensed fighters in the five weight classes of the UFC. The game will also feature the real announcers, referees, commentators, trainers, Octagon girls, etc. Giddy up, THQ. Giddy up.
THQ recently announced WWE Smackdown! vs. Raw 2009 for all platforms under the sun. While not everyone is a wrestling fan, it’s tough to argue that the games provide a good bit of enjoyment, if not for the sheer pleasure alone of throwing someone through a table. The 2009 iteration looks to build upon the solid graphics and gameplay of 2008 with a new stable of wrestlers and a bevy of game modes to choose from.
If you haven’t played a Worms game, you should have your gaming license revoked. The series has been around for years and has made appearances on virtually every platform. THQ brings the franchise to the Wii and throws the little fellas into space. Here is a breakdown of some of the facets of Worms: A Space Oddity for the Wii:
Presentation and Graphics: Worms: A Space Oddity looks pretty good for a Wii title. It’s nowhere near the level of detail as the Xbox Live Arcade version of Worms, but it looks pretty good. Where the title suffers though is the presentation. The menu system is aggravating at best. All of the menus utilize the Wii remote and its motion controls, which is to be expected with the system. However, all buttons you see are very small, some to the point of being smaller than the finger you use to point at things on the screen. This makes it difficult to navigate certain areas, such as changing the stage or picking your team. Other places it’s difficult to differentiate what is and is not a button. This is definitely an area Team17 could work on for the next release. 6.5 of 10
What better to look at on Valentine’s Day than screens for a new game where you beat the piss out of people? Saints Row 2 from THQ looks be shaping up nicely. It’ll be out at some point this year for both the Xbox 360 and PS3.
Will this be able to contend with the mighty Grand Theft Auto IV this year? Personally, I think it can. As long as they build well upon the solid foundation from the first Saints Row.
ATV Offroad Fury was one of my favorite games for the PS2. So when they THQ decided to bring the game, plus MX to the current gen, I was all over it. But Motorstorm beat them to the punch and set the bar for this style of game. MX vs. ATV: Untamed just doesn’t match up, unfortunately. Here is a breakdown of some of the facets of MX vs. ATV: Untamed for the PS3:
Presentation and Graphics: The menu system in the game annoyed me a bit. It’s difficult to find exactly what you’re looking for. You sometimes have to pull up options in sub-menus to find exactly what you need. Graphics are decent, but nothing that will knock your socks off. I was expecting some better dirt and mud effects. There was also a bit of screen tearing during a few races, but nothing too bad. 7 of 10
THQ sent over a copy of MX vs. ATV: Untamed for the PS3 for us to review. I spent a little bit of time with it during the Holidays, enough to you give you my first impressions of the game.
Having been a huge fan of Rainbow Studios’ ATV Off Road series, I was excited for this release from the jump. The game is a follow up to 2005’s MX vs. ATV: Unleashed and adds a bit of depth to what Motorstorm had brought to the table. From the looks of things, this game had it all. You’ve got individual events for MX and ATV as well as mixed events. Each race has courses you would expect for that particular type of vehicle, giving you the proper jumps, turns, and mud to splash though. The problem is it’s implementation.
