Grand Theft Games

You often hear of people obtaining a game weeks prior to their release dates. You’re taunted with screenshots of the box art, a shot of the douche bag inserting the disc in the console (you know, because we really don’t know how that’s done), and then, lastly, actual gameplay images or footage. An emotional burst of jealousy kicks in and then, the question that convolutes our mind: “Who the fuck did he have to rob for that?” Rob indeed, my friends, rob indeed.

Apparently, that question has been solved by an employee of game packager Technicolor. Rodney Gray has been charged with the theft of 900 copies of Fable II and Gears of War 2 and assorted DVDs. As per a Memphis police affidavit, Rodney Gray told officer that he “took the games and DVDs to sell.” I’m speechless. 900 copies of Fable II and Gears of War 2? Really, Rodney? What, do you have your own mom-and-pop shop on the side?

It amazes me at how stupid some people really are. I’m pretty sure that 900 of anything is a noticeable number. I usually would say “poor Rodney” in the defense of an obsessive gamer. I’ll just give him some advice: Rodney, where you’re going, you can only be three things: Someone’s bitch, the person who makes other people their bitch (i.e. the “tough guy”), or Michael Scofield from Prison Break. Try your hardest to convince those people you’re Michael Scofield, for the sake of your intestines. You’ll either, a) Be labeled insane b) Have people believe you or c) Get your shit pushed in. Either way, you can’t lose in telling people you have the blueprints to the prison. The majority of them are just as stupid as you are; there’s a chance that they might believe you.

Guy gets arrested for stealing GTA IV

Robbery
Looks like a 27 year old guy in San Diego needed his GTA fix and didn’t have the correct funds so he held up a Game Stop instead. Let the cries of video game violence begin…

Richard Fiel, 27, was arrested by police after a short standoff at the Suzuya Japanese B.B.Q. restaurant in the 5400 block of Kearny Villa Road. Police said a search of the man’s car turned up a can of pepper spray, a PlayStation 3 dual-shot controller, and “Grand Theft Auto,” “Grand Theft Auto III” and “Grand Theft Auto IV” video games.

I especially like how he picked up not only a copy of GTA 4 but also a copy of GTA 3 and a Dual Shot controller! I desperately have wanted a Dual Shot controller, but they have been sold out everywhere I go. Reporting at its finest.

How far would you go to get a copy of GTA IV early?

I love video games as much as the next guy, shoot we here at Loot Ninja are trying to make a living out of it, but none of us would throw our day jobs away just to get a copy of a game a few days early. Would you?

Well looks like a couple of UPS workers have answered yes and tried to do the deed and snag an early copy of GTA IV. In a recent interview with a UPS worker we heard the following:

“When we have a [big name release], we communicate it to operations and security teams. We have security in place at the facilities, and we make sure they understand to keep an eye out for things to exit the building,” he explained. How did they find where games were stolen? “We had tips from people inside, and some of them were discovered at intermediate hubs… it’s easy to spot: flaps torn, some boxes are re-taped.” In most cases, the bust is as easy as finding the last person who scanned the box as full and interviewing them.

Microsoft Responds to MS Point Stealing

Xbox Live LogoWe reported earlier on the hack of Bungie.net that opened up Xbox Live and user’s credit cards to theft.

Well, Microsoft responded to Kotaku in true MS fashion. No direct answer of what’s going on, no confirmation of the attack, just sort-of brushing it away to the side. Just like they did when myself and a few other users contacted them a bunch to get our credit cards removed from their systems.

Recently, there have been reports of fraudulent activity and account theft taking place on the Xbox LIVE network. Security is a top priority for Xbox LIVE, and we are actively investigating all reports of fraudulent behavior and theft. Any customer with a question about the security of their Xbox LIVE account should contact 1-800-4-MY-Xbox, and
an Xbox Customer Service Representative will help them understand our security policies and procedures.

Either a professional security consultant misinterpreted his data and blew it out of proportion, or Microsoft is dodging the bullet here again. You be the judge.

Joe Rogan Calls Out Carlos Mencia

It’s pretty widely known that Carlos Mencia is a joke theif. If you’ve seen any of his “material”, it’s pretty clear to see the bits he’s stolen from Richard Pryor, Paul Mooney, etc. The guy isn’t even really Mexican. His name is Ned. Yeah, it’s fucked up.

Anyway, Joe Rogan has been pretty out there about letting everyone know about Carlos Mencia’s joke stealing antics. On Saturday night, he confronted “Carlos” about it on stage at the Comedy Store in LA. Little did Carlos know, but it was being filmed… Check the video below, and read Joe’s thoughts on his website.

[Update] Updated video since the first one got pulled from YouTube… no idea why

[Update2] Not only did Carlos Mencia have YouTube pull the video, he also had Rogan banned from the Comedy Store, pretty punk ass moves if you ask me.

Sony Steals PGR3 Images for Ads

Major Nelson reports that Sony decided they wanted to steal a Project Gotham Racing 3 image as a background picture for a Gran Turismo HD video download for PSP. Yeah, ummm, this could be one of the dumbest things I’ve seen Sony do in a while. The image is CLEARLY from PGR3. Major posted a screenshot on his Flickr account for when Sony decides to take it down. He also posted the original image on Bizzare Creation’s website here.

Seriously Sony. What the hell is the matter who you people over there? Is your marketing team really that dumb that they think PGR3 shots from the developer’s website are from Gran Turismo HD?
