Loot Ninja Broke Bastard Alert: The Orange Box Sale

orange-box

This weekend only you can pick up The Orange Box for 66% off on Steam.  That’s Half-Life 2, Episodes 1 & 2, Lost Coast, Portal, and Team Fortress 2 for $9.99 or £5.66 for those who deal in Queen’s head.  If you haven’t picked up any of these titles you are missing out on some great gaming, so head over to Steam and get cracking before sundown on Sunday.  I picked it up just to have Portal on my PC.  My love affair with Steam has been rekindled.

Portal: Still Alive is Not a Sequel

Portal

Have you been wondering just exactly what Portal: Still Alive for the XBLA is going to be? Well, wonder no more. According to Valve’s PR, this is a standalone version of Portal that comes bundles with the Orange Box, but with some additional non-story levels tacked on. So don’t expect any GLaDOS in the extra levels.

No word on pricing just yet, but I’m wondering if Valve will offer any price breaks for people who already own The Orange Box. Since Still Alive is basically the same thing with new maps, maybe they’ll offer the expansion pack as a cheaper download for those who already have the game? Only time will tell.

EA Patches The Orange Box on PS3

Team Fortress Screen 8

PS3 gamers with The Orange Box have had a tough time, especially with Team Fortress 2. EA has been kind enough to drop a patch that should rectify a lot of the problems you’re facing. Here’s the fixes you can expect from the 128mb patch:

  • Fixed a graphical issue whereby a player would have the explosion effect left on the end of their Rocket Launcher when attempting to Rocket Jump.
  • Fixed a memory leak to improve single player stability.
  • Fixed an issue whereby the players name would not appear on the Stats comparison screen.
  • We have fixed an issue that would cause the vote tallies to disappear when you viewed the scoreboard between rounds.
  • Fixed an online server issue.
  • Fixed an issue that caused a crash when a player that wasn’t in Division 1 entered ‘Your Leaderboards.
  • Fixed an issue with players not always being added to the ‘Players Met’ menu on the XMB.
  • Fixed a bug where a player viewing a friend without an EA account would have an empty entry in the friend’s Leaderboard.
  • Fixed an issue where it was not possible to connect to the EA servers if you had more than 30 friends.

There ya go friends. Fire up your PS3 and spend a few minutes updating the game before you go try to frag some people online.

The Orange Box Dividing Itself on PC

Portal Screen

In case you don’t want to spend all that cash on The Orange Box just to play Portal, you’re in luck. Starting April 9th, Valve will be selling each part of the game on Steam.

Portal will run you $19.99, while Half-Life 2: Episode 2 and Team Fortress 2 will run you $29.99 each. Considering The Orange Box costs $50, it’s pretty steep for each one if that’s the route you want to take.

Sorry console players, this won’t apply to you. If you want Portal or Team Fortress 2, you’ll have to shell out the $60 for the game on your Xbox 360 or PS3.

Portal 2 Confirmed

Portal Screen

The Orange Box was worth the price of admission for Portal alone. The innovative gameplay was a breath of fresh air for the industry, leaving gamers and critics clamoring for more. The wait will soon be over, as Valve has confirmed Portal 2.

Kimberly Swift, lead designer for Portal, let the cat out of the bad on last night’s episode of X-Play on G4.

No time frame was set, but expect the sequel either later this year or early 2009.

Happy Holidays From The Orange Box

Tis the season to spread good cheer and overall shenanigans. Here is a happy holidays greeting from our friends at Valve and a funny one that at. Check it out and be sure to drink before noon this holiday season because if you ain’t first, you’re last.

Loot Ninja’s 2007 Game of the Year

2007 Game of the Year

2007 was one of the best years ever for gamers. We saw some amazing games on every platform. There were sequels that took their game to that next level, and new franchises that redefined their genre. With that said, there were just too many great games for the team here at Loot Ninja to come with a decisive overall Game of the Year. Two of us picked the same game, Call of Duty 4, but everyone else couldn’t agree on the best title of the year. We’ve got votes for Uncharted, Metroid Prime 3, and Halo 3. So we’re just going to let you see all of our picks for the coveted 2007 Game of the Year.

Reviews: The Orange Box (XBOX 360)

orangebox_360.jpg

Let me start by saying that I have been waiting for this game for what I consider to be far too long. I had only played HL2 VERY briefly but, of course, fell in love with it. I suppose I could have bought it for my computer at home. But to be completely honest I’m not all that crazy about keyboard controls (everyone tells me I’ll get used to them-piss off-I won’t). It has been almost four years since the PC release. I’m sure by now there are a handful of people that have lost interest in Valve’s epic creation. Those people are morons. Let me tell you why.

Oh, and make sure you’re comfy. Having five games on one disk can make for an extended review.
