I have been looking forward to this game for the longest time. Richard B.Riddick may seem like a hokey, pointless character for some, but I for one loved Pitch Black. Chronicles of Riddick was…passable. During the wait for the sequel to Butcher Bay, I found out that it was actually included in the game. As I nearly crapped myself I came to realize that having both games available on one disk may lead to harsh and immediate comparisons as much as it could blood-chunky fun. But I had faith that a new game would have all the elements of Butcher Bay and then some of its own added flavor. “Does it?” you ask. Maybe. Check it out.
Fear not Riddick fans. The time is close at hand. Atari wants you to know just how damn good Assault on Dark Athena is by releasing a demo on the Xbox 360 today. Based on our earlier conversations with the developers, the PS3 demo will most likely be released in tomorrow’s PSN update.
The demo gives you a chance to take a look at the main decks level of Dark Athena (it’s a giant ship that you’re hijacking, in case you didn’t know). You’ll be able to try out all of Riddick’s cool moves. All of us here at Loot Ninja were huge fans of Butcher Bay and loved what we saw when we got hands on with the game last month. Check out our preview here for the full scoop.
The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena is scheduled to drop on April 7th for all platforms, so get some time in with the demo for the next month and get ready to shiv some bitches.
The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay was a huge sleeper hit on the Xbox. It had some of the earliest and best hand to hand fighting for a “FPS”. The game allowed you explore very interactive environments where the lighting was as impressive as the graphics. The controls were tight, the aiming was spot on, and the overall game play was fantastic. Oh by the way, the story kicked ass. Where can the developers go from here? Enter: Assault on Dark Athena. We got some hands-on experience at the NYCC this weekend and to say that we are very happy and excited is an understatement.
We were all huge fans of the first Chronicles of Riddick game back on the Xbox, so getting hands on with Assault on Dark Athena was a good time. Check out what the developers have to say about the game.
Anyone who reads our site knows how we feel about Riddick and how excited we are for this game. Here is a gunplay video for the upcoming title. I will have my impressions up for the game soon, as I got some hands-on time with it at Comic Con. Until then, check it out.
Earlier today the British Board of Film Classification (BBFC), the rating agency for video games in the UK, posted their Classifications for two upcoming titles.
The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena is passed at 15 with no cuts made while Afro Samurai passed at 18 with no cuts made. Expect strong violence from both titles and probably some language and sex references…. seriously what were you expecting from Riddick & Mr. Samuel L. Jackson? Puppies and flowers? Neither title has been rated by PEGI yet for the rest of Europe.
Many of us here at Loot Ninja were huge fans of Escape from Butcher Bay on the original Xbox, so it’s no suprise that we’re very excited for the upcoming Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena. Combining a new story with the ability to play through the original, this looks like it’ll be a winner when it drops this Spring. Check out the latest Desperation trailer and watch how pretty it is to cut someone with a shiv from behind.
Sierra Entertainment dropped word to Pro-G that the next-gen Riddick title, Assault on Dark Athena, has been delayed until 2008. No reason was given for the delay as of yet.
The game is scheduled to be a port of the Xbox hit Escape from Butcher Bay, but will add some extra levels and multiplayer to complement the game’s enhanced graphics.
I’m not surprised this game has slipped to 2008. We haven’t seen anything new since the first trailer, which was more a proof of concept than anything else. Either way, this game is going to be terrific when it finally ships.
IGN showed off a trailer from the new Riddick game coming for Xbox 360 and PS3. It takes the original Riddick and adds on a bunch of extra single player after you escape from Butcher Bay. Oh yeah, there’s multiplayer too.
The sleeper Xbox hit, The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay will be updated with new graphics as well as new content and a new online multiplayer mode later this year reports computerandvideogames. For those of us who were taken back by this game several years ago, this announcement comes as a great surprise as well as a reason to take a shank to a fellow prisoner. The hand to hand combat at the game’s initial release was ahead of its time and the voice acting was on point. To see this game in high def and another play through with some new missions will be worth the price of admission.
