The premise of the game is simple. Make the man walk out of the room by tipping the box that responds to a webcam. Am I making no sense? Watch this video and see what everyone is talking about.
A privately funded company is developing a 1 TB, that’s terabyte, as in 1000 times as big as a gigabyte, optical drive and disk format which is compatible with Blu-ray. Holy shit balls. If this works, and people do have doubts, the size of video games will be astonishing. Rockstar had to fill 50 GB for GTA IV. Imagine what they would do with 1000 GB. GTA V: South America. Instead of strapping a Wii-mote to your head, this makes use the PlayStation Eye camera. Pretty damn cool. I wonder how long until we see this adapted into games on the PS3? It’ll see a ton of PlayStation Eye’s, that’s for damn sure.
Epic and GameSpy (owned by IGN) today announced a deal where GameSpy’s multiplayer technology will be incorporated into Unreal Engine 3. The deal affects PS3 to PC cross-platform play. Other features being included in the engine are communication tools, competition apps, matchmaking, stat tools, community features, leaderboards, and unannounced new features that may turn up down the line.
The kicker is that GameSpy says this could work for brining cross platform play in a single game to the Xbox 360, PS3, and PC. How cool would that be?
GameSpy has the technology to actually connect gamers across virtually any platform for multiplayer play, even Xbox 360 to PS3 to PC. “We’re huge believers in cross-platform play,” said [Todd] Northcutt [GameSpy Technologies Director]. But he said it’s ultimately up to Microsoft and other game companies to realize the dream of total cross-platform gameplay.
I have a tingling feeling that Microsoft will want no part of this. They have their own Games for Windows Live stuff for cross platform play. Hang this one up there with your dream of the next Duke Nukem game dropping this decade.
It seems that the Red Lights of Death have been appearing on the Wii, this time in the form of green dots called Sparkles reports many users over in the Neogaf forums. It seems that they happen when the system overheats or has been left on for a prolonged amount of time with high frame rate games such as Resident Evil 4. It seems that Nintendo has been very good with replacing systems and users report that if the Wii is left vertical, it does not seem to heat up as much. Since I do not own a Wii, I am unable to comment first hand, but is anyone else out there experiencing similar issues? If so, please let us know.
There has been some waves made around in some Xbox360 forums lately about a possible cause for massive system failure. Turns out, according to this official tech support report that the power brick is itself a surge protector and we as an owner should NOT plug the power brick into any further surge or extension cords. I took 2 years of engineering physics and basically have Ohm’s Law tattoed on my ass, and I do not see a reason why this should be any concern. The ventilation thing, yeah, no brainer. The surge protector? No, I do not buy that. The more electrical resistance against any kind of power surge should not be an issue. Is this another cop out by The Man saying its the consumer’s fault that so many 360’s are making the stock of UPS go through the roof? What do you guys think?
It is probably easier to score black tar heroin right now than a Nintendo Wii. Unless you plan to buy a $600 bundle that contains the must have titles like Happy Feet or Shrek 3 or pay some eBayer who somehow has 10 unopened(stolen??), you are basically SOL. Finally Nintendo has promised to churn out more Wii’s to meet the demands of the market that they grossly underestimated reports Consumerist.com The system so far is good, but not great. The fact that you can’t get one may be the reason its so sought after. Either way, more Wii’s to come.
We all know that Microsoft has many tricks up their sleeve, but it seems that they have an ace in the deck. Advancedmedia reports that Microsoft has filed a patent that is for a gaming console that will integrate all of the peripherals that have a Microsoft logo on it. The power will be evenly distributed do you need not worry about any voltage issues. This means that you can have games that will incorporate the PC the Xbox360 and the Zune into possibly a single game. Talk about total command, the possibilities are endless and this could lead to the future of gaming on a level we have never seen. As far as the name, no ideas yet but I doubt it will be Xbox720.
Amid rumors and false reports, we all know now that the first significant hardware update for the Xbox360 is on the way. The new version has the HDMI port and comes in a new black color, but the selling point could be the new 120 gb HDD detachable HDD that allows gamers to save everything with little limit in sight. This raises the question that what about all of us with 20 gb HDD? Apparently you will be able to purchase the 120 gb seperately as well with the Elite and both will come with data transfer cords. Herein lies the problem. There are major limitations with this process. Our good friends at joystiq.com report that things get a little iffy when transfering your precious acheivements. Some of the major problems are:
1. Once you transfer your games, they cannot be transfered back to the original 20 gb HDD making it a 100 dollar paperweight.
2. If you have multiple HDDs, you need to choose which data stays and goes. You can transfer only one HDD to the big daddy, not multiple. Once data transfer has begun, the receiver will be initialized and therefore erased. Kind of sucks if you doled out 2 hundo and you can’t consolidate. Basically, you need to change HDD anytime you want the other saved material.
Nevertheless, its going to cost $479 for the Elite. I applaud microsoft for the hardware because it proves to us owners that they are trying the best to keep up with the PS3 and blu-ray tech. However, they cannot seriously expect people to go out and buy a brand new system making the “old” one obsolete. Is it possible they have alienated a majority of their hardcore fans?
