Marriott Integrates Wiis into Rooms

You have probably gone to a hotel where you see a PS1 controller or N64 controller dangling out of the television so you cna play some old games while on the road. Well looks like Marriott is teaming up with Nintendo to bring some Wii action to your hotel room. You can get a Wii Room in 6 locations and get packages that allow you unlimited play during your stay, of course at a premium rate.

Interesting that these Wiis will have 20 pre-loaded games in them, do I smell hard drive here? This is a cool idea to have new games in the rooms, but if you are a traveler on business chances are that you are not willing to pay more to play some games right before bed. This will be fantastic for those travelers with kids that want to keep them occupied.

Hit the jump to read the official press release and what 6 hotels have these packages.

Review: Super Mario Galaxy (Wii)

Remember the days when Nintendo would launch a system with a Mario game? I do. I’ve never gotten used to not playing a Mario game on the first day I play a new console. It didn’t feel right with the Gamecube and it still doesn’t feel right with the Wii. But thats me.

I understand the reason behind Nintendo’s new way of thinking however. A console has to show on day one that its not a system made for your little brother. I get that and it makes sense. Its just weird is all.

I will say that the wait was worth it. The final game is polished and a blast to play. Being a big fan of Super Mario 64 I expected a lot from this game and it delivered.

Let delve into that then shall we? Read More »

Your 2007 Game of the Year

street-team.JPG

We ran a poll last week to try and find out what you thought would be the 2007 Game of the Year. A lot of you weighed in, and here’s how it came out. We’ll present the top 5 games here:

  1. Call of Duty 4 (19%)
  2. Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune (17%)
  3. Halo 3 (11%)
  4. Super Mario Galaxy (11%)
  5. BioShock (10%)

Thanks to everyone who voted! There were a ton of great games this year, so making the elusive Game of the Year choice is tough. You can expect to see our picks this week.

Time Magazine Releases Their Top 10 Games of the Year that has Halo 3 #1; Bioshock #5

the-dude-time-man.jpg
Time Magazine might be the most recognizable magazine in our country and maybe the world. They have covered some of the most turbulent times in history and now has taken a stab at video games. Jesus tapdancing Christ. Here is the list. I will save you the annoyance of clicking through.

  1. Halo 3
  2. Half Life 2: The Orange Box
  3. Rock Band
  4. Super Mario Galaxy
  5. Bioshock
  6. Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare
  7. The Legend of Zelda: The Phantom Hourglass
  8. Mass Effect
  9. Ace Combat 6
  10. God of War 2

What the fuck? I understand that PS2 is last gen, but you better have a huge set of balls to rate God of War 2 lower than Ace Combat 6. Somehow the DS version of Zelda beat out the wii version? Metroid was not even mentioned. Bioshock rated lower than Rock Band? Rock Band is fun but you cannot even begin to compare to the two. Halo 3 sold hundreds of millions of copies but that does not make it the game of the year, ironically, winning no major awards at the VGA’s. Half Life 2, hey, great port, but number 2? Also notice, not one PS3 exclusive title made it. A chimpanzee could have picked these games out of his ass in a better order.

Super Mario Galaxy - Impressions

Super Mario GalaxyI recently had a chance to get my hands on Super Mario Galaxy. Interesting thing is before you fire up your copy the Wii makes you run an update. Another funny note is that all the diagrams in game show the Wiimote with the new Wii silicone glove on them, I thought that was pretty funny.

Super Mario Galaxies for the Nintendo Wii is definitely a uniqe twist on the tried and true Mario franchise, but this bad boy should come with a warning: May make you dizzy after playing for extended times! The premise is that Mario is in space and as always needs to save the princess, but this time in space. Mario bounces form planet to planet collecting stars and spinning his way past Goombas to get more stars.

The physics in Mario is very interesting as you typically are running around a small planet trying to collect or free something to jump to the next planet. This game is truly 3D, to the point that I was actually tilting my head while I was playing. You actually run around these worlds in full 3D and then leap from one to another solving mini puzzles.

The game is definitely unique in presentation and controls, while providing fresh new style graphiccs and gamplay. This is a good pick upfor any Wii owner looking to get some good Mario fun in and a new experience. Expect a full review of this bad boy very shortly.
