Looks like EA is trying to cross promote by tying in the Madden soundtrack with the orignal Rock Band by making it available is downloadable content over a period of time. They are also pumping it out on iTunes for all you new and old iPhone users.
Most notable for the music industry is a tie-in between the game’s soundtrack and the “Rock Band” videogame. (EA serves as the game’s distributor, which is actually published by MTV.)
Under the deal, “Rock Band” will feature music from the “Madden 09″ soundtrack in its weekly downloadable songs update, a handful at a time, over several weeks, with each song carrying the “Madden” brand. Additionally, each soundtrack song will be available for sale via iTunes as part of a special “Madden” playlist.
As an added nice touch EA is giving a little incentive to thos gamers that pre-order the game as well.
EA is also offering fans who pre-order the game from Target an iTunes gift card worth 10 free downloads once they pick up the title.
In a move to fire up gamers for the 4th of July weekend Activision is releasing a free downloadable track for Guitar Hero 3 on both the PSN and Xbox LIVE and it is the theme from Top Gun. I have to say this is a pretty cool freebie and a great song to play on the guitar, too bad it gets a bit repetitive towards the middle of the song.
This is one of the better DLC songs released especially because it’s free, it is right up there with the Halo song. Listening to this makes me want to go out and do Mach 3 in a fighter plane and eject my co-pilot and break his neck, poor Goose.
If you don’t know what the song sounds like, shame on you! After listening to the cuts from Top Gun I think GH should make a Top Gun themed game, screw Aerosmith! Here it is:
Hit the jump for more Top Gun songs, I just felt inspired after listening to the theme song and also for the official press release: Read More »
2.40 is boasting trophy support, in-game XMB access and limited custom soundtracks. Look for this sparkling gem of an firmware update to be released July 2, yes in a couple of days! Go get ready and start ripping Cd’s.
Finally, say hello to the trophies! Trophies give a different spin on playing PS3 games that it was lacking, I have to admit that this is very similar to the achievements on the Xbox 360. Still a great addition and now for multi-platform titles there is a reason to grab the PS3 version instead of just going for achievement points.
The frontman for Korn, Jonathan Davis, talks about making a Haze exclusive song and how it differs from a normal track on his albums. Pretty sweet that Haze is getting some Korn love, this game looks very promising and now with a promise of a solid soundtrack is shaping up very nicely. Korn frontman sums himself up well, I write music and play games, damn good life if you ask me.
Good old Legos they never disappoint me. I am very much looking forward to the Iron Man movie and this guy take Legos and re-enacts the entire trailer. I think it is just as good and pretty awesome how he incorporated the entire trailer into small blocks of art. This makes me think of the potential of a Lego Iron Man game as well?! How sweet would that be, with the soundtrack? Kick ass!
Sony announced the full soundtrack for Gran Turismo 5 Prologue in the US. There are quite a few tracks that separate this from the European and Japanese versions of the game. I have to say, I’m fairly impressed. Some great stuff here.
If you’re keen on listening to your own tunes while playing games, you’ve probably been disappointed with the PS3 thus far. MLB 08 The Show looks to add some remedy, as you’ll be able to customize your in-game soundtrack with music stored on your PS3 hard drive. Oh yeah, this works on the PSP as well!
I’ve never been too big into custom soundtracks. I usually like to rock whatever is in the game. But this is something I’ll definitely try out, since I do have a decent amount of music on my PS3 and PSP.
Don’t forget, demos for the PS3 and PSP version of MLB 08 The Show come out later today with the weekly PlayStation Store updates.
Everyone’s favorite cheat code is in the lyrics of a song on the Juno Soundtrack. “Anyone Else But You” by The Moldy Peaches contains the cool line:
Up up down down left right left right B A start
Just because we use cheats doesn’t mean we’re not smart
The song is performed by the two main characters at the end of the movie, but the Konami Code doesn’t make it into the movie, but does make the soundtrack. The movie’s pretty cool too, not just the one line from the soundtrack. Check if out if you haven’t seen it.
So what do you want for Christmas? DLC you say to rock out on Guitar Hero 3? Well what a coincidence, they just announced some. Looks like Linkin Park, Mastadon and The Used are putting tracks out for GH3 in time for the holiday push. There is even a free holiday song for all to download as well, “We Three Kings,” recorded by Steve Ouimette. So far the best DLC for GH3 has to be the Halo song, nohting gets you going like some gregorian chant and a guitar riff. I would have liked to see more Linkin Park old school tracks like Crawling or In The End, instead of No More Sorrow.
From the press release:
SUNNYVALE, CA - December 17, 2007 - Master recordings from Warner/Reprise artists Linkin Park, Mastadon and The Used will be available as a downloadable track pack for Activision, Inc.’s (Nasdaq: ATVI) Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock, during the month of December. Additionally, Activision will offer single song downloads from such popular European bands as Extremoduro, Trust and Die Fantastischen Vier, as well as a free, exclusive rock rendition of the holiday classic “We Three Kings,” recorded by Steve Ouimette. The Warner/Reprise Track Pack, single song downloads, and free holiday classic will be available for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft and PLAYSTATION®3 computer entertainment system.
