SOCOM Confrontation Beta Dated

SOCOM Confrontation Screen

There’s going to be two ways to get into the SOCOM Confrontation Beta on the PS3. The first is to preorder the game from GameStop. That’ll get you going when the Beta starts on September 1st. The second way to have bought Episode 1 of Qore on the PSN. With that, you get into the Beta on September 8th.

Either way you get, the Beta lasts until September 30th, so you’ll have the whole month to get going on the game. With the release date not too long afterwards, I’d imagine the Beta will be fairly polished. I have an annual subscription to Qore, so that’s how I’m in. Looking forward to it.

SOCOM: Confrontation Trailer

Sony dropped a new trailer for their online-only shooter, SOCOM: Confrontation. I’m definitely looking forward to this one as I’ve been a big SOCOM fan since the first one was released on the PS2. The graphics are shaping up nicely and the maps look cool. Hopefully the gameplay holds ups.

SOCOM Bluetooth Headset Revealed

SOCOM Headset 1

The PS3 is getting an official Bluetooth headset with SOCOM: Confrontation this fall. The game will be bundled this this pretty little deal which is specifically made for gaming. The headset looks much better than what came with Warhawk.

There’s a mute button on the side of the headset, which should server very well for gaming use (most Bluetooth headsets don’t have this feature). No pricing has been set, but you’ll be able to buy it separately if you don’t want to pick up the game bundle. I’m guessing it’ll be included with the game at $60 and you’ll probably be able to pick it up for around $30. We’ll see how it goes when September rolls around. More pics after the jump.

SOCOM Confrontation Shoots Up the PS3 on September 16

Socom PS3 Screen 2

SOCOM fans will get to shoot up their friends on the PS3 this fall as Confrontation will be released September 16, reported by 1up.

To go along with the game, Sony is launching SOCOM.com to give the community information on the game and a place to gather and start flame wars. Because what else are community sites for, really?

I’m pretty excited for this one. One of the first online games that I spent a ton of time with was SOCOM on the PS2. I got fairly good at the game, but never really got into any of the sequels. I have high hopes for the PS3 version.

SOCOM: US Navy SEALs Confrontation Screenshots

Socom PS3 Screen 1

Sony released two new screenshots for the upcoming PS3 SOCOM title, which had slipped our minds with all the other big releases on deck.

The first screen (above), shows the map Crossroads, one of the most fan requested maps from SOCOM of old. The second (below) is from a new map, still unnamed, which features 16 or 32 player match sizes.

The game is looking a lot like GRAW visually. I’m sure things will change as we see more screens and get some hands on time.

SOCOM US Navy SEALs Tactical Stike (PSP) Review

Socom US Navy Seals Tactical Stike Screen 1

If you’re a fan of the SOCOM series on the PlayStation, you will be a bit surprised if you pick up Tactical Strike hoping to frag your friends. The game takes the series in a new direction, which puts you in control of a team of four Navy SEALs in a tactical manner. Instead of running and gunning, you issue commands for your team and come up with the best strategy to complete your mission. SOCOM is a tried and true brand, but just how well does the turn in the series work? Here is a breakdown of some of the facets of SOCOM US Navy SEALs Tactical Stike for the PSP:

Presentation and Graphics: I’m astounded at the level of graphics that Sony is pulling from the PSP recently. SOCOM US Navy SEALs Tactical Strike no is exception. The levels are huge and finely detailed. Character models look great in the varied lighting conditions in the game. Tactical Strike has one of the better lighting engines in any PSP title. You’ll enjoy sniping enemies over and over with the great animations provided, showing your character steadying his breathing before holding mid-breath to fire the shot. The camera follows the bullet as it takes out the enemy. It’s just something you’ll never get tired of. The game does have longer than typical load times, however, so be prepared to wait a bit between each level. 4.5 of 5

Birthday Present to Myself

White Darth Vader PSP

Since I’ve had a rough couple of weeks, I decided to give myself a birthday present. I went over to Best Buy and picked up a nice white Darth Vader PSP. Yay for me.

I’m pretty impressed so far. It’s light as hell and has a lot of streamlined features. I’ll have pics and a review of the new PSP coming soon. So for now, happy birthday to me while I go play some more Socom and Syphon Filter :)

Haven’t decided what to do with my chunky black PSP yet… maybe I’ll give it away to one lucky reader…
