SOCOM Confrontation DLC Coming on PS3

SOCOM Confrontation COLD FRONT Map Pack Screen

That’s way too many capital letters for my liking. SOCOM: US Navy SEALs Confrontation is getting a new DLC pack soon on the PS3. The COLD FRONT pack promises to bring a shit-ton of new content for $14.99:

  • New Russian / Eastern European Area of Operation
  • Snow setting complete with snow effects, new snow gear and camo for both the Special Forces and Mercenaries, and thermal vision
  • New ARMS RUN gameplay mode
  • 5 New Maps: Uprising, Entrapment, Blizzard, Night Stalker, Vigilance
  • All new mercenaries characters with new looks and new VO.
  • New Special Forces squad, the Russian Spetsnaz
  • Gun turrets emplacements
  • New music
  • All new character specialization/progression system
  • Allows players to pick a primary and secondary specialization and unlock new equipment exclusive to those specializations
  • New weapons, including: 3 new weapons, 6 enhanced versions of weapons available as part of the new weapons specialization system, 2 new weapon attachments (including the thermal scope), 5 enhanced versions of weapon attachments also available as part of the new weapons specialization system.
  • 2 new grenade launcher ammo types (flash and smoke)
  • New Trophies

I haven’t touched SOCOM since launch and I don’t know if new content will bring me back. There are plenty of other games out drawing my attention, like Uncharted 2, Critter Crunch, Halo 3: ODST, and the upcoming Modern Warfare 2. I will say that this is a lot of content for the money, so hardcore SOCOM players should be pleased. Given that up until recently, Confrontation was one of the most played games on the PSN, I have a feeling this should sell quite a bit.

Info on SOCOM: Confrontation 1.5 and 1.6 Patches Released

Socom Confrontation Screen 1

The online team at SOCOM have been hard at work to make Sony’s best military shooter game, well, more playable. Plagued from the onset with bad servers, connectivity, and bug after bug, the game is starting to really take shape and make me want to play it again. Here is all the info for the new patches. 1.5 should be coming our way soon and 1.6 is supposed to be major. Expect a lot of new changes in SOCOM: Confrontation and expect to see me back on when they do.

SOCOM: Confrontation Patch v1.41 Coming Monday

Socom Confrontation Screen 2

You know what? SOCOM launched really bad, but has picked up enormously with some solid patches. The game is a lot of fun now and the gameplay is finally solid. Slant Six is doing a good job with these patches. Version 1.41, dropping Monday, is bringing even more fixes.

  • XMB presence – Medley Game information has been abbreviated, displaying all information required to identify the location of the player.
  • Late Join ‘Hitch’ improvements – addresses the pause experienced by players when someone late joins a game.
  • Navigating Screens With Large Clans – slow down issue fixed
  • Increased speed of fade at the beginning of the round.
  • Quick Match
    • Increased countdown timer in Quick Match Pre Game lobby from 20 to 60 seconds.
    • Enabled Quick Match team switching.
    • Ranked, Unranked and Unranked Respawn games, each contains 6 different playlists: 3 8vs8 and 3 16vs16 players.
  • Claymores can now be detonated when player is in the prone position

Slant Six also did some back end server updates to optimize latency and reduce lag. Overall, it should make for a much more playable game. With the game launching in Europe soon, they need to have it right. The launch was botched pretty good in the US, so Sony needs to do it right in Europe.

SOCOM: Confrontation Patch v1.30 Now Available

Starting today, I will actually be playing SOCOM: Confrontation on the PS3. I was a huge fan of the PS2 games, but all the server issues and bugs and missing features from Confrontation really turned me off. I haven’t touched the game in months. Today, that changes.

We’ve told you all about the new stuff in the patch, like Trophies, a Quick Match option, and Party system. Now, it’s all here. I’m excited, but also a bit saddened that it took this many months after release to get Confrontation to the playable form that should have existed from day 1.

Whatever the case, you can catch me online a good deal this week in SOCOM on PS3. I think Steve and Yaris will be playing too, so look for us online.

SOCOM: Confrontation Patch 1.30 Pushed Back Until After the Holidays

SOCOM: Confrontation was this close to be playable but still remains a buggy mess so to speak. While some recent updates had made the game a little better, the one we had all been waiting for is still in the works. No new controller layout and no new quick match fix among other things.

Therefore, barring any unforeseen issues, we are looking to release the SOCOM: Confrontation 1.30 update during the week of January 5th or January 12th.  We are pushing to get it approved and deployed ASAP after the holiday break.

We understand that a lot of you were hoping to play the 1.30 update over the break and we really wanted to make that happen.  However, our primary goal is to make sure that the 1.30 update lives up to everyone’s expectations and more time was needed to make that happen.

We will let you know as soon as it goes live so you can dust of your copy and get some Navy Seals action going.

Socom: Confrontation Finally Getting Patched to Where It’s Playable

Loyal SOCOM fans were ecstatic when SOCOM: Confrontation came out. An online multiplayer game only, it offered next gen tactical shooting and promised to be a killer title. The game itself is great, but finding a match was a disaster and you could never get into the game you wanted without a long, long wait. Well, Slant Six is moving in the right direction with the following patch, 1.30:

The Quick Match/Party system will be added in the upcoming patch. What does this mean? It means that SOCOM players will be able to jump into appropriate games, with the friends, in a much faster and organized way. “Once you select quick match you are taken to the party screen where you can invite other players to join your party. On the party screen, you can chat with your party while you are waiting for everyone to join. Once everyone has joined, select join game and your party is matched with other players of similar skill. For the 1.30 update, you can select from 3 different game types for the quick match; 16×16 Ranked, 16×16 Unranked and 16×16 Respawn. All large maps and game modes are available and the playlists are selected at random.”

Review: Socom: Confrontation (PS3)

The Socom franchise was an integral piece in the development of tactical shooters ever since it first graced the PS2 all those years ago. Furthermore, it has expanded to an important exclusive title for Sony and gamers have waited patiently for the first iteration in the next generation. Rivals like Ghost Recon and Rainbow 6 have made the transition very smoothly; has Socom done the same? While the game has amazing potential, gamers are left wanting more and will have to wait a little longer before all the bugs are fixed.

Socom: Confrontation Patch 1.20 Now Available

Socom: Confrontation was released with mixed reviews, largely to the fact that their servers were down and an online only game could not be played online. They have fixed the servers, but there are still issues that require attention. The latest patch will fix the following problems:

The SOCOM: Confrontation 1.20 update addresses the following issues:

  • Fixed many issues which would cause the game to crash, hang, disconnect and exit to the PS3 XMB.
  • Fixed an issue which would cause large numbers of players in a high player count game to be simultaneously disconnected.
  • Fixed an issue which would cause players to be invincible.
  • Fixed a physics issue which would cause players to occasionally “warp” around on the map.
  • Fixed an issue where a “corrupt save data” message would be incorrectly displayed after updating the game.
  • Fixed some player model issues related to team swapping.
  • Client/server optimization.
  • Fixed an issue where the scope camera had an incorrect offset from the barrel of the gun while prone or leaning/peeking.
