New Street Fighter Boss

Street Fighter gets a brand new boss, named Seth, who bears a striking resemblance to the Silver Surfer. Looks like he has dethroned M. Bison as the new final boss of this instant arcade classic. The talk around town is that Seth is super overpowered and a bit oversexed. Why is he not wearing pants? To me Seth does not really fit the flow of the other Street Fighter characters and looks more like a Marvel character instead of a Street Fighter.

Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer (PS3) Review

I’ve been a huge fan of comic book movies and games since I was a little kid. I grew up reading all of these comics and following these heroes. So any chance I get to grab a new comic book game, I’m all over it. I picked up Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer for PS3 expecting a solid game in the style of Marvel: Ultimate Alliance. What the game provides is far from it. Here is a breakdown of some of the facets of Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer for the PS3:

Presentation and Graphics: The game uses likenesses of the actors from the Fantastic Four movies, and they look fairly similar. Character models for all other characters are pretty good. Character animations looked pretty good, but not great. The environments didn’t match that level in most areas. The background details were sparse with repeated textures. The worst part about the graphics were the framerate issues. Whenever the camera would pan around large areas, or you were fighting multiple enemies on screen, there was a noticeable slowdown. This was one of the major factors that turned me off to the game right from the start. 3 of 5

Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer (PS3) Impressions

Fantastic Four Rise of the Silver Surfer Screenshot

I got a chance to play around a bit with Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer on the PS3 this weekend. From what I’ve played so far, I’m not terribly impressed. First off, can 2K and Visual Concepts PLEASE find some new sound effects for the menus? We’ve been hearing these since the 2K Sports series started. It’s getting old.

The graphics for the game aren’t that bad, but they’re nothing breathtaking either. The characters do look a good deal like their movie counterparts. There are some glaring framerate issues that come about as you’re running around, particularly when you have a lot of enemies on the screen at once. The sounds are just okay. I would have though 2K would get the actors from the movie to provide voice-overs, but I guess that was just too much money. Sound effects seem bland and washed out.

The controls feel pretty good, similar to Marvel Ultimate Alliance. The gameplay though, it’s pretty boring. Even in the first level, it got so repetitive that I thought I was back-tracking in the level. Go through a door, kill 10 enemies, go through a door, go down/up an elevator… then repeat. It got old very quickly.

I’m going to keep playing through, hoping it gets better. A full review will be up later this week.
