Love ‘em or hate ‘em you have to respect the consoles

Super ComputerNo matter if you are an Xbox 360, PS3 or even a Wii fanboy I think we all have to tip our hats to the new generation of consoles and the power they bring to the table.

I recently heard about the requirements for the new John Woo game, Stranglehold on the PC and it’s borderline ridiculous requirements.

“The game will require at least 15 gigs of hard drive space, 2 gigs of ram and a Nvidia 7800 or higher / ATI x1300 or higher graphics card.”

That is a lot of machine required to play a FPS game on your computer, a buddy of mine recently ran into similar problems, but not as extreme, when he purchased Halo 2 and Shadowrun for the PC, he could not run Shadowrun on his rig. This is why PC gaming is a problem in my eyes, you have to constantly upgrade your computer just to keep up with the newest titles. Games are built for consoles and the only thing you have to worry about is upgrading to a different system every few years to stay with the curve of technology.

Each new console and handheld runs games with high quality graphics and you never have to be concerned about disk space or RAM, just buying the game and being able to get it unwrapped from it’s plastic straight jacket. Putting the problems of hardware aside (which PC systems are very prone to as well if not more if you factor in viruses) these consoles are designed to have you gaming with little to no effort or worries by the gamer, you have to respect the consoles and their pushing of one another to bring this technology further and faster every year.

As a huge fan of Starcraft I wonder what the requirements for the new Starcraft II game will be, at least for me if they are too exagerated Blizzard can count me out.

Get a free copy of Shadowrun…

You can score a free copy of Shadowrun for the PC when you purchase a copy of Halo 2 for PC at your local Circuit City. A great deal if you have Windows Vista and can run the two games. So you end up paying $39.99 for two sweet games and you can play Shadowrun cross consoles (with the Xbox 360 people) and get live on your PC, this makes for some nice gaming. Happy hunting!

Shadowrun Xbox 360 Demo – Impressions

ShadowrunThe Shadowrun demo on Xbox Live weighs in at about 1 Gb and takes a bit to download but is worth it. The demo allows you to play multiplayer matches over Live with other demo players and also take part in the training runs to learn how to use spells, weapons, etc. The game is pretty deep even just for a demo; you can choose between human and elf and can use different spells and weapons. The game works a bit like Counterstrike where you get money for winning rounds and then can purchase different equipment, techniques and magic at the end of rounds with the winners getting money bonuses.

I like the game dynamic a lot in that it isn’t just a straight shooter and you can set up different strategies on your team. You can have a healer to revive the dead, a teleporter to be the flag runner, a glider with enhanced vision to be your eyes and of course gunners. The demo is just a straight CTF game on 1 map where you take turns defending and trying to capture the flag, or in this case the Artifact. It is actually fun and I think has some great potential, I will review the whole game as soon as I pick it up this week for the Xbox 360. I heard a rumor that there is even an achievement for tea-bagging opponents, funny, but sigh.

XBLM explodes with demos

Xbox 360 LiveIf you haven’t had a chance to check out the latest Xbox 360 demos on Xbox Marketplace, shame on you, we here at Loot Ninja highly reccomend you do. With the new ability to download while playing games and leave your system on overnight while downloading there shoudl be no excuse, unless you filled your HDD with music. There are some quality demos available like:

* Tenchu Z (Some stealth ninja action for ya)
* Forza Motorsport 2 (A bit of racing to get your engine going)
* Shadowrun (Elves and dwarves killing in the name of…)
* Overlord (Just added today, get your evil villain on)
* GRAW 2 (If you liked GRAW one, take a look)
* Command & Conquer 3 (RTS + bombs = Nice)
* Winning Eleven Pro Evolution Soccer 2007 (GOOOOOOOOOAL)

That is a decent lineup for demos this month, many of which just came out this week, so if you were on the fence about grabbing a title, take it out for a spin and feel it up first. Each demo is around 800 Mb to 1 Gb in size and retails for 0 rubles, my favorite sum of cash.

Shadowrun Beta: Impressions

Shadowrun ScreenshotSo today Microsoft lifted the NDA on the Shadowrun Beta, so I figured I’d give you my impressions of the game in it’s current state.

The beta is online multiplayer on Xbox 360 only (no cross-platform play yet). There’s a lot too the game. It’s not just your typical first person shooter. You have to master hover jumps, teleporting, spells, etc. Lucky, there’s some pretty good tutorials to help you out with this.

The game is really fun. Let’s just start there. The learning curve is steep, but once you get into it, it’s a blast. I love that it’s not just run and gun. You can use your magic to see people through walls, teleport through and snipe them from behind without them even knowing. There’s some glitches, but that’s expected in a beta. The Shadowrun team has been great with keeping up with it all, sending out regular newsletters to those involved.

I think this game is going to be terrific once it’s released at retail. The beta test has convinced me to buy the game.

Hopefully the Halo 3 Beta goes as smooth and the game is as fun to play.
