Look, if you haven’t played Plants vs. Zombies yet, I feel sorry for you. PopCap hit yet another one out of the park with their take on tower defense. It’s worth every penny of the normal $19.99 price point, but if you sleep on this at under $10, someone should smack the shit out of you.
If you head on over to PCGameStore, you can snag a copy for $6.99. If Steam if your bread and butter, they have it on sale for $9.99. Either way, this is a must buy. I’ll repeat myself for those glancing over that sentence waiting for their Friday work day to end. Plants vs. Zombies is a must buy.
Get off your rump, pull out that wallet, and skip lunch today if you have to, because you’ll be doing yourself a favor by purchasing this game.
I have a feeling tomorrow’s release of the Napalm & Cordite Map Pack for Killzone 2 will be the final one released for the game. Sony will be bundling all three maps packs together for the cool price of $11.99. These sales usually happen once all of the content has been released, as in the case of Warhawk.
Now, I could be off the mark, by my Spidey Sense tells me that we won’t be seeing any more Map Packs for the game. Most developers stop at the three Map Pack plateau. Maybe Guerrilla Games is hard at work on their next project?
Either way, the “3 for the price of 2″ deal is pretty sweet. If you haven’t picked up any of the Killzone 2 Map Packs yet, I would highly recommend doing so this week with the sale. They’re among some of my favorites in the game.
If you haven’t played Toki Tori, go shell out the $0.99 entry fee right now to get the game for your iPhone or iPod Touch. Chillingo is joining the “let’s get huge sales numbers by selling for a dollar” crowd, following the likes of Peggle and Topple 2, among others.
Toki Tori is a puzzle/platformer with an enormous amount of content for the price. It was worth the price of admission at $4.99, but if you sleep on this at $0.99, someone should throw your iPhone in a river.
Tiger Woods PGA Tour for the iPhone is now 30% off, so you can grab the game for $6.99 instead of its normal $9.99. If you haven’t bought this game yet and like golf, go grab this one now. No, I mean it, go now.
Most of you know my affection for golf and golf games. I’ve been playing Tiger Woods on my iPhone the past week and absolutely love it. It’s easily the best golf game I’ve played on the iPhone (surpassing my previous favorite, Let’s Golf!). The courses, PGA Tour mode, and the amount of players to choose from are all amazing for the price. If you immediately want to play the 18th at Pebble Beach or the the 17th at TPC Sawgrass, you can.
I haven’t had this much fun with a portable golf game since the first Tiger Woods game on the PSP. You can play with up to 4 people by passing your iPhone around, which is a nice feature. The only thing missing is some form of online or ad-hoc multiplayer. Even without that, this game is awesome and worth every penny.
Everyone enjoys a new game and a sale every once in a while. That’s why we are happy to tell you that Astraware has just released a brand new word game titled Bubble Shuffle. The game’s setting takes place under the sea and the player is given a set of bubble letters that must be created into words. The game becomes progressively more difficult, requiring you to create at least one word from the all of the letters. Bubble Shuffle is available for the iPhone/iPod touch, Palm OS and Windows Mobile devices.
Astraware also has a big sale taking place on a few of their premium titles including the recently announced Hellfire. You can follow this link to see all of the games offered by Astraware, the ones on sale are marked with a huge sale banner. Enjoy!
Ziff Davis has sold off almost all of its gaming properties to UGO Entertainment, a unit of the Hearst Corporation. UGO has been on the gaming news scene for a whole, although not many people used them as a primary source of information. Now, they own all of the 1UP network, including GameVideos.com, MyCheats.com, and GameTab.com.
“We are extremely excited to join the UGO team,” said Sam Kennedy, editorial director and creator of 1UP. “Relying on UGO’s publishing platform will allow us to focus on what we do best—creating great content and ‘owning the conversation’ among gamers through our unique, authentic and definitive voice and community.”
I’ve spoken with a few people over at 1UP who asked to remain nameless, but they aren’t too happy. Some are looking for jobs. Others, specifically those who worked on EGM, are completely out work since the magazine has been shut down. Sad to see it go, but I think it has been an inevitable waiting to happen. Print media is on the way out with everything going online.
The 1UP Yours Podcast and the 1UP Show have been staples of my weekly listening and viewing, so it’s very sad to hear from 1UP Show creator Ryan O’Donnell and producer Matt Chandronait that the video podcast has been canceled. The 1UP Yours Podcast is up in the air, as the show’s producer Andrew Pfister has been laid off. They also have great trustworthy review and editorial teams. Here’s hoping that everything goes well over there.
[Update] Been hearing more and more people that have been laid off. Horrible day for gaming journalism. So sorry to hear what has happened to our friends over there. I’m sure everyone will land on their feet, but damn, this sucks.
[Update 2] I’m hearing that 1UP Yours Podcast is no more. Joystiq also posted a full list of those affected by the layoffs. Not a good day.
Today is Boxing Day here in the UK. What does this mean? I have no clue. All I care about it the fact that I don’t have to go to work today. Oh and that some huge sales are going on.
Some big retailers are selling games at serious discounts. Stinks of desperation, trying to make their end of year sales goals. Here are a few places were you can pick up some titles on the cheap and help slow the global recession:
GOG.com aka Good Old Games, recently came to my attention when they offered Beneath a Steel Sky for free via download, DRM-free. Sounded like a great deal, so I grabbed it. I’m a sucker for the old titles in the bargain bins, some real gems to be found there. Gems galore it is from GOG.com as they offer a selection of holiday bundles for under USD $10. Starting today until you can get your hands on the following bundles:
Fallout & Fallout 2
MDK & MDK2
Freespace & Freespace 2
Descent, I and II, & Descent 3
Stonekeep & Lionheart
Some great games and a great price of about USD $10 each. Hurry as the sale ends 31-December-2008. Happy Holidays from GOG. Quality old titles to work on PC’s today and there is a bundle for pretty much everyone. Gotta love it, but Fallout 3 will keep me well occupied for a long time before I bother to download the first two for another go.
Halo: Combat Evolved! Normally priced at 1200 Microsoft Points, this Xbox classic will be marked down 50% or 600 Microsoft Points starting today. The offer is available to all gold members in all Xbox Live regions and will last for one week.
This is a great way to finish off the year. Now I know this isn’t exactly new content but it definitely has that nostalgia factor. I can still recall the first time I saw the game demoed at Macworld and was in complete awe. Then Microsoft acquired Bungie and basically stole Halo from the Mac community but the end results speak for themselves. Halo: Combat Evolved was a staple FPS for consoles and no one can argue that. Just make sure you take advantage of this great deal before it is gone.
Black Friday isn’t the only day of the year you can buy great games with steep discounts. Don’t worry if you didn’t feel like waiting hours in line for the chance to get trampled. It doesn’t mean you don’t care, you just aren’t as crazy as some people. Well, I have some crazy deals for you. See how that works?
The App Store doesn’t have a section dedicated to discounted games. It’s a shame really because sometimes these sales only last for a day or two and no one ever gets a chance to notice them. While digging around a bit I ended up finding two high quality titles more than 50% off but these sales are only good today. The two titles are Raging Thunder and TouchSports Tennis ‘09. Both are fairly high rated games and both are 50% off or better.
Gamestop.com is having an online only sale tomorrow (12/1/08) but the sale starts right after midnight, Eastern Time. They don’t have any games specifically listed but there are images of Spore, Shaun White Snowboarding and Command and Conquer: Red Alert 3 on the sale page with discounts as much as $20.00. They also have discounts of up to 50% off of select downloadable games. If that isn’t enticing enough for you they are offering free value shipping. You don’t have to physically go inside of Gamestop and interact with humans, what’s not to like?
