Get your SD cards ready for your Wii because Harmonix is doing their best to get you that DLC that they promised for Rock Band 2 as soon as physically possible. The DLC was supposed to be available for the initial launch of the game but it had been pushed back. Harmonix has now responded on their community forums saying that the DLC is in it’s final testing stages and should be ready in early 2009. When they are absolutely certain, they will announce a “firm release date”.
The DLC will consist of the 20 free bonus tracks that were supposed to be on the disc and 30 more tracks from the original Rock Band DLC catalog.
Are you having troubles deciding whether to purchase Rock Band 2 or Guitar Hero: World Tour? Maybe this will help you in your decision making process. Proud owners of the Lips microphones will soon be able to use them while playing Rock Band 2, says Harmonix and MTV.
“Microsoft and MTV Games are working together to ensure that consumers will be able to use the wireless mics from ‘Lips’ with ‘Rock Band 2’ after launch,” said the companies in an e-mailed statement. “More details on timing to come. Harmonix and MTV Games strive for all third-party controllers to work with the ‘Rock Band’ games, fitting with Harmonix’ open-platform philosophy for controllers.”
It is always welcoming news for companies to support third party peripherals. Hopefully the update will come in the next few weeks and not months from now. Will this news help sway any of you Lips owners into purchasing Rock Band over Guitar Hero?
MTV’s Rock Band Battle special airs today at 1:00 P.M. ET/PT and if you missed that one for whatever valid excuse you have, it airs again at 6:00 P.M. ET/PT. The show will be hosted by comedian Dan Levy with actress Carrie Keagan taking on co-hosting duties. The one hour special will have five Rock Band groups competing head to head for prizes.
No information is given on how the groups were chosen to be contestants on the show but by the looks of things I doubt they were chosen by tournament style elimination, though I could be wrong. The contestants will be scored on how well they play the game and how well they impress the audience with their stage presence.
The winning band will walk away with some pretty nice equipment:
Big Screen LG television
Cambridge SoundWorks Newton Theater System
Microsoft Xbox 360
Rock Band 2 Special Edition Bundle from MTV Games for Xbox 360
I already know that I could take any one of these bands on all by lonesome so just send me a single prize and we can call it even. Thanks MTV.
Bon Jovi. Fuck yeah. I’ve played this song in Rock Band about 50 times so far and fired it up a few times in Guitar Hero World Tour a couple times also. It gets even better when you’ve had a few beers. Here’s a 100% expert drum run in Rock Band 2. Get some.
If you picked up a copy of Rock Band 2, you might have noticed that little code in the back of the instruction manual where you can get 20 free songs. Until now, it’s been a mystery as to just what you’d get. But wonder no longer, my friends. Here’s all the songs in their glory:
The 88 – “Sons and Daughters”
Authority Zero – “No Regrets”
Between the Buried and Me – “Prequel To The Sequel”
The Cab – “Bounce”
The Chevelles – “Get It On”
The Cocktail Slippers – “Give It To Me”
Dealership – “Database Corrupted”
Endeverafter – “I Wanna Be Your Man”
The Ghost Hounds – “Ashes To Fire”
Hollywood Undead – “Young”
Kutless – “The Feeling”
The Len Price 3 – “If I Ain’t Got You”
Lesley Roy – “I’m Gone, I’m Going”
Opiate for the Masses – “Burn You Down”
Semi-Precious Weapons – “Magnetic Baby”
Shaimus – “Like a Fool”
Thenewno2″ – Crazy Tuesday”
Tickle Me Pink – “The Time Is Wrong”
Underoath – “Desperate Times, Desperate Measures”
X Japan – “I.V.”
Not a terrific list, but it’s not bad either. You can’t complain for free content, so don’t try. Make sure to enter your code over at the registration site and wait for November 4th when these songs will be available for download. And if you haven’t gotten Rock Band 2 yet, what are you waiting for?
It looks like Harmonix is as busy as a beaver trying to capitalize off of retail discs. There seems to be another disc (not the AC/DC one) waiting to be released this year and it is called Rock Band Track Pack 2. Wait you say, when did I purchase the first Rock Band Track Pack? Well, if you are a Xbox 360 owner you never have. The first track pack disk was released solely on the PS2 and Wii.
Now on to the details. According to xbox360achievements.org the retail release date is said to be November 18th at the price of $29.99. At this time, there isn’t an official track listing but the achievements give some of them away. Speaking of achievements, there will be 12 of them totalling 250 points. The previous track pack disk contained 20 songs, so the price seems a little steep for people who might already own some of the songs included on the disk. If you don’t already own any of the songs and achievements have some monetary value to you, it might be worth a purchase, you do the math.
I don’t think it’s any big secret that i’m a huge huge fan of Journey. Went to see them this summer with the new singer and loved every minute of it. Hell, the song my wife and I walked out to for our wedding was Don’t Stop Believin’. So having a Journey song in Rock Band 2 makes gets me all antsy in the pantsy. Check out this full combo, five gold star run on expert drums of Any Way you Want it. Get some.
To say that I’ve been addicted to Rock Band since its release last Holiday season would be an understatement. I hit up the drums on a regular, almost daily basis and have bought more DLC than I care to mention. When Rock Band 2 was announced, I got all giddy like a school girl. New songs aside, the enhanced Tour mode and other additions tickled my fancy. Did it all pan out as well as it sounded? Short answer: yes.
Let’s get this out of the way: it’s still Rock Band. The tweaks and updates aren’t Earth-shattering and the game still plays like the original, which is in no way a bad thing. Presentation is almost identical, with the exception of a slightly different combo meter (it’s tilted in so it looks like it’s flat along the note chart). You have some new options available when creating your character as well, but otherwise, the game looks the same as the first incarnation. Quick Play song selection has also been tweaked to look more like the Rock Band Store, showing the difficulty ratings of each song as you go scroll though the lists. For some reason, though, it only shows your highest score for each track and not the number of stars you’ve achieved, which makes it difficult to keep a running tally of how many Gold Star songs you’ve completed.
