The trailer has only been out for a couple weeks, but already Resident Evil 5 is catching some major heat for being racist. You can catch the trailer here if you haven’t seen it yet.
Black Looks, a blog devoted to African women, has called the game’s plot into question.
The new Resident Evil video game depicts a white man in what appears to be Africa killing Black people. The Black people are supposed to be zombies and the white man’s job is to destroy them and save humanity…
This is problematic on so many levels, including the depiction of Black people as inhuman savages, the killing of Black people by a white man in military clothing, and the fact that this video game is marketed to children and young adults. Start them young… fearing, hating, and destroying Black people.
I’m not going to say they’re wrong here. The trailer can definitely be construed that way. I don’t think Capcom had any intentions of racism in the game. I think they were trying to set the game in Africa this go-around. That’s just my 2 cents, but I can see where Black Looks is coming from. What do you think? Let us know in the comments.
Sony updated the PlayStation Store on the PS3 today, just like every Thursday. But today there’s something to be very excited about. We get a demo for Heavenly Sword.
We’ve known for a little while we’d see a Heavenly Sword demo soon, and it was confirmed earlier this week. The wait is over, except for the download time for the 996MB demo.
Other updates include a Metal Gear Solid 4 gameplay trailer, an extended Resident Evil 5 trailer, a Haze: Origins trailer, 30 Days of Night trailer, Across the Universe trailer, and an August Rush trailer.
So go fire up your PS3 and download all the new content. I know that’s what I’ll be doing.
Resident Evil will officially make it’s debut on the Xbox 360 with the 5th installment of the series. I can’t say I’m terribly surprised by this, considering Capcom already said they plan to make all games multi-platform. Anyway, here’s some horrific beauty for you.
This trailer looks pretty good. Reminds me of a cross between Resident Evil and Condemned, but looks solid for a DS game and there is no lack of blood it seems. Nintendo and PSP are neck and neck with solid handheld releases this month and coming up.
We first brought you the comparison of Resident Evil, PC vs. GC and now you can see how the GC version stands up against it’s next generation brother, the Wii. It saddens me a bit becasue the game looks identical and as I feared it will be a straight port graphically to the Wii, shame on Nintendo. I think the Wii has a lot of unused potential.
Resident Evil is getting a facelift for the PC, here you can see the colors and contrast are much cripser and sharper on the PC. Nintendo never was about having pretty games, but more having fun games to play, Mario was never a marvel of graphics yet millions played with a smile.
This June has two important events for Nintendo coming up:
June 4 - DS Lite gets it’s own web capabilities, the DS Lite Web Browser will be an Opera based platform that will let you surf the web for $34.99. Keep an eye on this applicaton, may prove to be key on the small handheld with the stylus, I know I use the on eon my PSP a bit.
June 19 - Say hello to my favorite zombie hunter, as Resident Evil 4 Wii edition hits the streets. If you mssed the original version for the Gamecube then check this out on your Wii. We have posted some clips of this gmae and it looks very promising.
Here’s a trailer for the Japanese version of Resident Evil for the Wii. The game is better known as Biohazard in other parts of the world. The games look cool. Hopefully the addition of the Wiimote will make for better controls for this game.
