Bionic Commando: Rearmed Supports PSP Remote Play

Bionic Commando Rearmed Screen

Capcom seems content in making the PS3 version of Bionic Commando: Rearmed well superior to the Xbox 360 version. First we heard about the higher resolution textures due to the file size limits of the Xbox Live Arcade, and now this. According to MTV’s Multiplayer Blog, the NES classic remake will support Remote Play on your PSP.

I have to say, this seals the deal for me. I was leaning toward the PS3 version because of the better textures, but Remote Play is an amazing feature. I love PixelJunk Monsters over Remote Play and this will be no different. If you have a PS3 and a PSP, definitely check this out.

Hot Shots Golf: Out of Bounds Vid

Hot Shots Golf: Out of Bounds although being a cartoonish over the top golf game looks graphically very impressive. Hot Shots was tons of fun on the PSP/PS2 and should provide a good time on the PS3, perhaps we will get some remote play as well. Part of the fun of the game was trying to unlock all of the different outfits and clubs. I also never get tired of watching the caddy run after your initial drive, poor caddies, lol.

BREAKING: All PS1 Games Support Remote Play on PS3

PS3 PSP Connected Image

An unannounced update of the v2.10 firmware on the PS3 and v3.80 firmware on the PSP is that ALL PS1 games work for Remote Play. This includes downloaded titles and games from disc.

This is huge news for PS3 and PSP owners. I just played Crash Bandicoot from download via Remote Play as well as Gran Turismo 2 from disc and both worked.

Stay tuned as we try to get more information from Sony.

High Stakes Poker Goes With Remote Play

PS3 PSP Connected Image

High Stakes Poker for the PS3 recently put out a PSP remote play patch, which allows you to take this title on the road. This is a great step for both the game and the remote play, they need to do monthly updates to add remote play to games, this would definitely set the PS3 apart from the competition. So go ahead and grab that update so you can go ‘all in’, on the move with your PSP. Look for a review of this new feature soon.

Thanks to Scott Smith for the tip!

PS3 Firmware Update v2.00 Impressions

PS3 Horizontal

Yeah, I know it’s late, but I’ve been tied up. While I was detained, Sony updated the PS3 firmware to v2.00. The magic potion everyone was waiting for, in-game XMB access, was not included. But there are some cool new features to check out. Here’s what you can expect to find with the new firmware update:

  • XMB Themes - you can now customize a theme for your XMB backround
  • Playlists for Music and Photos
  • Information Board to feed you news items in the PlayStation world
  • New PlayStation Network category in the XMB
  • Remote Start for Remote Play - you can now turn your PS3 on and off from anywhere in the world with the PSP and a WiFi connection

A few other minor things were included with this update. Overall, I’m a bit underwhelmed. I expected a lot more for such a major version number change. I was hoping for in-game XMB, custom playlists in-game, or something like that. I also found that having the Information Board running all the time causes some noticeable slow-down in the XMB. Personally, I don’t see a point in the Information Board if you use an RSS reader on your PC anyway.

Hopefully v2.1 will include some of the bigger features we’ve been waiting for.

Lair Impressions

LairYou have probably already read some awful reviews for Lair on the PS3 and I don’t want to kick a game while its down, but I just started playing around with Lair and the game really is hard to get into. I would never have thought that the premise of flying dragons could be done poorly but Lair achieved this. Aside from the remote play that allows you to play Lair on your PSP the game has very awkward controls and even more awkward dialogue.

Lair has a Lord of the Rings feel to it mixed with Dragonheart, the whole premise is you are a dragon rider that defends his kingdom against other dragon riders, sounds cool right? Well in theory it is until you grab the six-axis controller and realize that controlling your dragon is not very fun. The six axis controls are used to steer your dragon, which does not really respond well and can get a bit frustrating when you end up flying in circles to get your enemies. Flying battles turn out to be pretty frustrating as targeting enemies in the air is a bit of a pain to use your fire breath, you can lock on and use physical strikes as well but that just isn’t the same. You can also land your dragon and breath fire on the ground, but this also turns out being a bit more fun as you can trample enemies on foot and even eat them.

Download DS demos via your Wii?

Download StationNintendo announced this morning that you will be able to download DS demos via your Wii in the comfort of your own home instead of having to go to a download station in an official Nintendo store. This is an awesome feature that is long overdo, now Nintendo needs to pony up and get with some remote play action like Sony is trying. I will definitely use my DS more if I can try out games and see what they are like before going out to buy them.

TGS07: PS3 Gets Wake on LAN

PS3 PSP Connected Image

Want to know what the coolest part if of Remote Play now? Being able to turn your PS3 on and off remotely from anywhere in the world. Holy f’ing crap! If you want to remotely play some PS3 games or stream videos to your PSP from anywhere in the world, now you can.

No word on when the firmware updates would be released for PS3 and PSP to support this new features.

Sony really threw down the hammer at TGS. Between this and the DualShock 3 official announcement, the PS3 is continuing to look better and better.

Rumor: DS remote play/Wii connection

With all of the talk revolving aorund the Sony PS3 and it’s remote play to the PSP now we get a possible Wii to DS connection rumor. The video shows a user trying to connect their DS to a Wii via the Mii Channel. The video is not perfect but does look convincing

What is the world coming to? Perhaps we will see an Xbox 360 connect to their handheld (please note this item does not exist, the closest thing would be a Zune, but it would be a pimp idea) in the future? Please note this is not a confirmed credible video, but it does raise some eyebrows and looks pretty real.

Lair & Remote Play the next big thing?

psp2.jpgThere are a lot of rumors flying around now that all games on the PS3 will support remote play some day, this is especially heightened by the new release of Lair and everyone jumping on their PSP to play. Some Sony spokesperson’s have already been quoted as stating that this is just the tip of the iceberg.

Although the PSP does not have the exact same control setup as the PS3 I think remote play is a great feature and is right up there with game sharing on the PS3. I can’t wait to get my copy of Lair on the PS3 to check this out in depth and look forward to seeing more titles including this. Just think if the new Killzone or MGS had remote play?

What do you think?
