From now on we will review all of our games like this kid does, he gives so much insight it is really really really impressive. It is interesting how he changed his score a few times in his 3 minute review, how hard is it to remember the number you first put out there? Perhaps the funniest thing is when he starts reviewing the game and says that he really hasn’t played the other two yet or tried the game online, I guess as long as you have the box your an expert. Maybe we can hire him as a guest reviewer?
It’s that time again when all media outlets pick their Game of the Year. Don’t worry, we’ll be throwing our hat in the ring soon enough. But in the meantime, we want to find out what you think. What should be the 2007 Game of the Year? We’re giving you a lot of choices here, some of which you might laugh at. But hey, it’s a free country, right? The polls will be open until Wednesday December 19th at 8pm EST. At that point, we’ll tally up the votes and post the Loot Ninja Reader Game of the Year for all to see. Feel free to leave your comments as to why you voted how you did.
[Update] Added a few games to the poll that were requested by a few users. For the record, the outcome of this poll will in no way affect our Game of the Year choice(s).
We got a review come in for Game Party for the Wii from out good buddy leenis. Check it out…
The Nintendo Wii put out this game that is a combination of the popular bar games at pubs across America. It consists of five games: Darts, Shuffle Board, Basketball, Air Hockey, and Beer Pong (or their own version of it). Each of these games are Wii remote used, however a lot of it is homed in by clicking where the target is going to go and then using the Wii-mote to just control the speed of the object.
The first game that my roommates and I played was Beer Pong…obviously. You aim with the Wii-mote and click to make your target where you want it. It requires no skill whatsoever to lock the cursor into position where you want the ball to be thrown. Once you figure out where the best placement of the target its just a matter of time before you get the motion down. This makes the game way too easy, anyone that doesn’t have Palsy can put the cursor where they want it and click. Throwing the ball is just as simple.
Folklore was a fairly anticipated title for the PS3, especially after the demo was released and it showed great promise. It combines strategy with arcade and adventure and brings to you a new experience on the PS3. Here is a breakdown of some of the facets of Folklore for the PS3:
Presentation and Graphics: The use of color, imagery and great lighting give this game an interesting dynamic. Graphically, this game is part Wizard of Oz, part Alice in Wonderland, and part Pan’s Labyrinth. It is most certainly not a clinic in great graphics, but this title is beautiful in the way a painting can be. Just walking around, the scenery sucks you in, with items moving around you, and the colors reminding you of a cool autumn day.
Most of the game’s cutscenes come in the form of comic book-style storyboards, while a handful of scenes are CGI. Combined, Folklore feels a lot like playing through a graphic novel.
The menus are many, but they are not confusing, once you get the hang of them. Items in menus can also be rearranged to an extent, which is a pleasant touch. 4 out of 5 Read More »
We had a reader review for Call of Duty 4 for the Xbox 360 sent in by Fragloser. Good review, so read on my friends…
While call of duty 4 has sort of the same feel as the previous ones, let me tell you to start that it is completely different. Unlike its predecessors, Call of Duty 4 is set in the modern day, instead of the previous three games for the PC which were all set during WWII. I played the beta for COD back in September, and let me tell you, it was amazing. The first three multiplayer levels were great, which led to my anticipation for the game. Here is a breakdown of why COD ended up as such a spectacular game.
We had a reader review for skate for the Xbox 360 sent in by Schwing007. Good review, so read on my friends…
Having played skate. since its debut nearly every day exclusively (Bungie did release a game of some importance recently), a fact keeps occurring to me every time I put down my wireless controller: I still have things to learn, I can’t frickin’ wait.
Having played every Tony Hawk game since its inception so many moons ago( along with countless clones), skateboarding games had finally settled into their own dusty corner of the shelf of innovation, being blown upon occasionally with tweaked control schemes and online options. You knew what to expect is what I’m saying.
So along comes this EA skateboarding game which didn’t seem like….anything, really. Looking at the screens and videos, I was expecting just another TH clone with an inconsequential twist. Until I had the chance to play the demo.
The next in the series of Reader Reviews comes from Jersey_STi, a good friend of mine. He took on the behemoth that is Tony Hawk’s Proving Ground. Well, the demo for the Xbox 360 that is. Here’s his review:First, off the bat, Tony Hawk’s Proving Ground, is not, and will not be the same as EA’s Skate which is coming out. If you are looking for a skate game that you can turn on and jump right into and feel comfortable playing, Proving Ground is the game to buy. But if you want a challenge and feel as if you are really skating and learn what it is like to actually skate. EA’s Skate is the way to go.With Proving Ground, if you have previously played any Tony Hawk game, then you wont have a problem clicking the buttons and exploring the levels that it has planned out. The few things they seemed to have added in the demo would be the 3 different skating lives you can chose to go into. Read More »
Here’s the first in our series of Reader Reviews. This one comes from Fragloser for the hit title BioShock. Read and enjoy….
If you haven’t heard of Bioshock, it’s a FPS with a twist. It is kind of related to the System Shock games, but I wouldn’t say it is a sequel. With most FPS games, you know what you’re going to get right away. You usually get guns as you progress, and they just get more powerful until you finish the game. However, Bioshock is very different from these games. During the game, you get plasmids which alter your genetic code, giving you powers to do things such as shoot electricity at enemies. Here is a breakdown of some of the elements in Bioshock for the 360.
Presentation and Graphics: Bioshock is set in the 1960’s, and it will “wow” you as soon as you load the first level. When you first see the water in this game, you know that the developers put a lot of work into the water effects in this game. In addition, the fire looks particularly good. The great thing about the graphics is that Rapture is styled in an “art deco” manner. This means that as you look into each room, you get taken in by all the visuals, which helps you feel like you’re actually in the game, unlike WWII games where you pretty much have an idea what everything should look like. My only minor gripe is that you will see a lot of the same enemy models over again, which sometimes don’t look as detailed as I expected. However, don’t let that draw you away from the game, the world looks amazing, and the visuals are on par or better then those of Gears of War. 4.75/5
