Elvis is Back

And sexier than ever, sporting the ever so classic American flag “vest only” look. Pants not required.

Perfect Dark is making a return with a few new skins but not much else. It will hit the Xbox Live Arcade this winter so you can get your friends together and have some serious multiplayer sessions like back in the day. Or if like me you live thousands of miles away from most of your gaming buddies this re-incarnation of the original will allow multiplayer over Xbox Live.  I doubt a pantless alien named Elvis will pull me away from Modern Warfare 2. More updates screens beyond the jump.

Rare Handing Out Avatar Items as Achievements

Loot Ninja Avatars

So the Xbox 360 avatars came and went. People were more or less blaise about it. When the word of charging for clothes came out, people blew off the concept altogether. The old adage does hold true however; give people free shit and they will pay attention.  Rare will be handing out clothes as an achievement prize.

“In time… games will be able to give away clothes and accessories just like Achievements,” said art head Lee Musgrave.  “We are currently working with multiple partners who have expressed interest in using Avatars,” added producer Stacey Law.

A good idea involving avatars? The end is nigh. In the above picture, I’m the Morpheus looking guy.  I have to make him taller.

Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts Contest Hints In-Game Immortality

What’s better than winning a physical prize for your hard work?  Being immortalized in a video game of course.  Rare is having a contest for the best player built contraption created in Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts.  The official prize hasn’t been announced yet but Rare promises it to be something good.  Here are the contest details:

  • Deadline for entries is January 4th 2009, 12 midnight PST. This gives players the whole holiday to get creative on us.
  • Anybody with a copy of Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts and an Xbox LIVE account can enter.
  • You can submit as many contraptions and photos as you like; just remember that the cream always rises to the top.
  • Wow us! Shock us! Just don’t post dodgy contraptions (don’t play coy, you know what we mean). The entry must be your own original work, infringe no copyrights and reference no third party trademarks, music, logos, names or images.
  • In order to be included you’ll need to allow Microsoft rights to distribute your entries, letting the widest possible audience marvel at your machinery.
  • Just to be clear, this is not a competition with some kind of tacky physical memento as a prize. We’re not giving away our secret by saying what the reward is just yet…

Once the winners are selected they will be contacted via their Gamertags and asked to send their winning blueprints for whatever it is Rare has in store.  Good luck and start building.

Demo Impressions: Banjo-Kazooie Nuts and Bolts (Xbox 360)

I must start this out by saying I am a Banjo-Kazooie virgin.  I never played any of those games as I never even owned a Nintendo 64.  I am unable to make any comparisons between the past games, but thankfully this one is completely different.  No real platforming elements exist, it is all about the vehicles.

When you fire up the demo, you must sit through a fairly boring explanation of the game, no “press start” to skip.  A few basic walk-throughs commence after all of the beginning junk and eventually you are able to try out the game.  For some reason, I am still upset with just how long it actually takes to start the demo.  I understand that they must introduce the game to us, but it seriously took what seemed to be an eternity just to start playing the game.
