Ubisoft released a “World Premier” trailer for R6: Vegas 2 at the VGA’s last night. Where’s the footage here guys? The small amount of game footage (or CGI for that matter) you see in the trailer here can’t even be easily distinguished from the first R6: Vegas. I have high hopes for the game, but this trailer is meh.
That’s right, Ubisoft is taking back to Sin City, Rainbow Six style. The game is currently in development with an anticipated release date of March 2008.
“Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Vegas took the gaming world by storm in 2006 thanks to its technological advances and gameplay innovations,” said Yves Guillemot, president and chief executive officer at Ubisoft. “We are convinced that Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Vegas 2 will remain a pioneer in the highly competitive first person shooter genre, bringing more of what Rainbow Six fans love to the table.”
The first game was great, and the sequel looks to build on that success. Stay tuned as more information about the game gets released.
GRAW 2 (PS3) versus Rainbow Six (Xbox 360), which game provides more hours of enjoyment? The fact that I am debating this means I spend too much of my own time playing tactical shooters than anything else, so theses opinions might only matter in my head. After writing the mini review on GRAW 2, I felt compelled every word to mention how I felt it matched up against Rainbow 6, which in my opinion is one of the best tactical shooters for campaign and multiplayer. The options it gives for customizing a shotgun with a rifle scope or any other weapon with a players prefered scope is a top notch feature. I think on 360 the one issue I had is the amount of time needed on multiplayer to unlock the uniform options and upgrades for your personal character. While I haven’t dove into GRAW 2 multiplayer yet, I still think the Tom Clancy team had the right game plan set with Rainbow Six.One issue which I think is much better on GRAW 2 is how players can actually sneak and slide into areas, this is extremely lacking on Rainbow Six, something that just never made sense for a game built more on inside environments rather than outside areas as in GRAW 2. Secondly, GRAW 2 provides the UAV which helps identify enemies, yet Rainbow Six only gives you a snake cam, which in certain scenarios is amazing to use, but it doesn’t help much if you can’t sneak up on the enemy.Whether or not this games are supposed to be different in certain gameplay areas, I still believe if each of these games used the same format, yet made the story different it would broaden the equality of the games. I mean, you really can’t use an Apache helicopter or Abrams tank effectively in Rainbow Six. Well you could, it just wouldn’t make the game much fun blowing up the building you are in. Is it too much to ask to combine Splinter Cell, Rainbow Six and GRAW into one game? LOL.
Yeah, Microsoft screwed this one up again. Or maybe it was a combination of Microsoft and Ubisoft. Either way, it’s another overpriced error on the Xbox Live Marketplace which does not bode well for Microsoft’s image.
The Rainbow Six: Vegas Black Pack was released last week to a bit of an uproar, as it was available on the Xbox Live Marketplace for 800 MS Points ($10). It’s the same price as the previous Red Pack, which had much more to offer. After a couple days, the Black Pack mysteriously disappeared. Well, Major Nelson now sheds some light on the situation: the Black Pack should be free. Yes, free.
‘Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Vegas Black Pack Downloadable Content for Xbox 360 Live was originally intended to be free content for the fans of Rainbow Six Vegas. We apologize for the error. All players who purchased the Black Pack will be reimbursed automatically.* The Black Pack will be posted Saturday June 30th and will be free of charge. Also, as a token of our appreciation for the Rainbow Six community, we are making the Red Pack free as of Friday July 6th as well. Thanks for playing and we hope you enjoy this free content.’
Glad the error is being corrected, although Microsoft is saying it’ll be 8-10 weeks to reimburse people who paid for the content. Giving away the Red Pack for free is a huge plus as well. I’ll be downloading these as soon as possible.
We reported earlier on the new Red Players Pack for R6: Vegas that’s out today for the Xbox 360. Now, we bring you some footage of the new maps and gametypes in the players pack. Seems well worth the 800 MS Points to me.
For all of us who have been playing Rainbow 6 for awhile now finally get some downloadable content and it looks to be definitely worth it. MajorNelson confirmed today what we had all anticipated that the Red Player Pack is ready for download for everybody in the Xbox360 universe. The pack will include two new game modes, Assassination and Total Conquest. Assassination will randomly select one player as a VIP and they will have…. a handgun. The team must escort this very lucky man to an extraction point. Here is the caveat, you kill the VIP, the match ends. Expect fierce competition The second mode, Total Conquest has each team control three map points. Nothing extraordinary, but another game mode is never a problem. There are also new maps, Doscala Restaurant, Marshalling Yard, Roof , and apparently more. No new gadgets or weapons confirmed, but the new modes will be playable on new maps. No word yet if these maps will be on the PS3 when its released on 5/22/07.
Within the next few weeks we should be seeing the downloadable expansion pack for Rainbow Six Vegas hit Xbox Live. It is rumored to include two new game types: Assassination mode and Total Conquest; along with 10 new maps for some multiplayer action. Some maps are rumored to be throwback maps of older Rainbow Six games, but unfortunately Ubisoft has no current plans to add in any new devices or gadets as of yet. I think this will be a nice addition to a solid shooter, now lets just hope that the price is right, I’ll take that for a dollar!
I was able to get out today and get a new 360 from Best Buy. Unfortunately, I didn’t get one with the new quiet Benq/LG drive. I’m going to spend a good portion of the week playing Rainbow Six: Vegas, Lost Planet, and Gears of War… that is until I get Crackdown Tuesday afternoon. Look for me online so I can pwn you all
