Puzzle Quest Chapter 2 will be a Free Update

puzzlequest1

We did a review of Puzzle Quest: Challenge of the Warlords a while back and if you read that review you can understand our excitement for the next chapter.

Puzzle Quest for the iPhone has been through a lot, most players were upset with how poorly the port was done because the graphics were blurry and the text was illegible.  The developer, Transgaming, had done a series of updates over the past two months that pretty much fixed every known issue.

Transgaming must have felt that fans of Puzzle Quest have been through enough because those who purchased chapter 1 will receive chapter 2 as a free update.  Instead of paying $20.00 for the original game you are now only paying $10.00.  How great is that?

The update should be available sometime in the next two weeks.  A free version of Puzzle Quest is also ready to hit the App Store sometime this week so you can get a taste of this overly addictive puzzle game.

Chapter 3, which is actually an expansion to the original game, is yet to be officially priced.  It will be interesting to see how they incorporate the final chapter into this new pricing model.

Review: Puzzle Quest: Challenge of the Warlords Chapter 1 (iPhone/iPod Touch)

Puzzle Quest: Challenge of the Warlords Chapter 1: Battle of Gruulkar is quite a mouthful to say.  The chapter one indicates we should be getting two more chapters of this planned trilogy hopefully sometime in the near future.  There has been a lot of controversy surrounding the idea of breaking this classic game up into three chapters and charging $9.99 at the App Store for it, but we aren’t here to discuss pricing, it’s all about the gameplay.

First, we must address the giant elephant in the room.  Yes, there were some initial problems with version 1.0 of Puzzle Quest.  The textures were drab and very blurry.  The in game text was nearly impossible to read.  There was also the issue of your hero being somehow lost due to a save game bug along with various performance issues.  These are all legitimate complaints and I can absolutely understand why most fans of the series were upset when the game was initially released.  Now, fast forward to today.  We have the updated version 1.1 that allegedly fixed all of these issues, so what could be left to complain about?  In a sense, Puzzle Quest should be perfect.

Puzzle Quest 1.1 Update Now Available for the iPhone

As some of you may already know, Puzzle Quest: Challenge of the Warlords was released for the iPhone well over two weeks ago to much fanfare.  Fans of the much beloved series couldn’t wait to take on orcs and the undead in this hit puzzle game.  The problem was the port to the iPhone seemed to be rushed and many graphical issues soon became apparent to the dismay of most gamers.

TransGaming Inc. was able to quickly gather the troops and fix most of these graphical issues in an update that has just been released to the App Store today.  The 1.1 update brings many improvements to the game including performance enhancements, text readability improvements, texture clarity improvements and it fixes the infamous “lost hero” saved game bug.  Due to all of the backlash of the first release we will just call this the “official” release and try to put all of that ugliness behind us.  The official press release is located after the jump and stay tuned because we will have a full review of Puzzle Quest version 1.1 in the near future.
