N4G Spoiling Gears 2

Looks like there has been a recent uproar at the news site N4G (News 4 Gamers) that is angering many Xbox 360 users, specifically those who purchased Gears of War 2. Users on the aggregator site have taken it upon themselves to write fake stories that actually contain the ending to the Gears sequel. Many are speculating that this is the work of some PS3 fanboys, but I more believe that it is just the work of some jerkoffs that have nothing better to do than ruins people’s fun. Not only have fake stories been written and posted up with the plot spoiler, but the users have gone even as far as messaging users with the info. So bottom line is if you want to experience Gears of War 2 without the plot being spoiled, you may want to steer away form the web for a little bit.

Nintendo announces their Wii speak accessory and gamers yawn collectively as this news is released, seeing as this is nothing new to the PC, PS3, Xbox 360 or any gaming console. Welcome to the new millennium Nintendo, nice of you to join us, we also have cell phones now.

Review: Socom: Confrontation (PS3)

The Socom franchise was an integral piece in the development of tactical shooters ever since it first graced the PS2 all those years ago. Furthermore, it has expanded to an important exclusive title for Sony and gamers have waited patiently for the first iteration in the next generation. Rivals like Ghost Recon and Rainbow 6 have made the transition very smoothly; has Socom done the same? While the game has amazing potential, gamers are left wanting more and will have to wait a little longer before all the bugs are fixed.

PS3 Firmware v2.52 Released

Sony yesterday released a new firmware update for the PS3, bringing the black beast to v2.52. Nothing huge here, so you don’t need to rush to fire up the console if you haven’t already. Here’s the changes:

  • The playback quality of some PS3 format software has been improved.
  • A text entry issue that occurs when using the on-screen keyboard, USB keyboard or Bluetooth keyboard with some PS3 format software has been addressed.

You need to grab this to connect to the PSN, so fire it up whenever you get a chance. I’d suggest doing so before the PlayStation Store update later today when the servers start getting hammered.

Fallout 3 Getting PS3 Trophies Soon

According to Bethesda PR VP Pete Hines, a Trophy patch for the PS3 version of Fallout 3 is in the works. Pete let this tidbit out in an interview with Eurogamer:

It’s going to happen, just not sure when. We’ll let folks know when we have something more definitive.

I own the PS3 version of the game, so it’s nice to see developers adding this in, even though it’s late. I’m hoping a patch comes sooner rather than later to fix the issue of slight freezing whenever you get an XMB pop-up.

To all the fanboys out there, the PS3 version is not hardcore broken. On my 50″ 1080p HDTV, the two versions look almost identical. In some cases the Xbox 360 has better textures and, in others, the PS3 has better textures. It’s a great game on both systems, so stop acting dumb.

Could Microsoft and Sony Offer Online Backups for Game Saves?

How many times have your now-gen consoles kicked the bucket? I’m on Xbox 360 number 10, so I know how it all goes when the dreaded RRoD shows its ugly head. Luckily, my launch 60GB PS3 is still going strong, as is my launch Wii. One aspect of the Xbox 360 and PS3 that has a chance of dying is the hard drive. Because of the many moving parts, hard drives are prone to failure. With the rigorous usage we put our consoles through, it’s not out of the picture for one of these to go to the land of dead hardware.

Sony has a 10 year life span projection for the PS3 and Microsoft looks to keep the Xbox 360 on the market for at least 5 years. In that span, it’s safe to expect some sort of hard drive failure. How many of you have had a PC hard drive die? I see it happen everyday with drives from a year to 5 years old. With dust collecting in and around the electronics, ball bearings and drive platters can easily wear out and stop working.

Bioshock DLC Video

Here is a look at the downloadable content for Bioshock on the PS3. If you have not tried Bioshock yet and were debating which console to grab this game for, the new DLC may sway your opinion over to the Sony platform. I know Xbox 360 users world wide are praying to get this content on Xbox Live as well, but nothing has been confirmed just yet. Watch as more Rapture is shown to you with even more strategy, little sisters and Big Daddys. Enjoy.

Going Home No Time Soon

logo.png

It was on March 7, 2007 that Sony teased us with news of the upcoming release of a new social network that would, at no cost, give PlayStation 3 owners the gift of a customizable virtual world – PlayStation Home. The idea alone was enough to shake the knees of the most avid gamer; a world where console gamers wouldn’t have to rely on text messages or voice chat any longer; where we are able to freely explore and converse with people that share our same passion and playing games like pool and chess and pimping out our homes and characters to raise our egos a bit higher. It was right then and there where the social network of console gaming changed forever.

We all know Sony by now. Although they are one of greatest pioneers of gaming in console history, Sony has consistently promised their supporters unfathomed promises that seemed out of reach, yet they were believable because of their name and prior success. Screwing over the first wave of consumers by omitting rumble support on their SIXAXIS controller to later implement the same technology they, supposedly, would look past was a shot in the foot and they provided absolutely no ultimatum, or trading system, that would compensate for their incompetence. That was a dick head move, but whatever.

After the riveting announcement regarding Home, Sony did what they usually do – put their fat foots in their mouths. I sat as antsy as any other person who heard the release date of September/October 2007 and, suddenly, tears trickled down my cheeks and hit my lips leaving the taste of ocean in my mouth. I must have been consuming too much sodium that week. While gagging on my own tears of joy, I called my gaming counterparts and shared the exciting news. However, I should have seen the disappointment coming from a mile away.

BioShock PS3 DLC Dated and Priced

The Challenge Rooms for the PS3 version of BioShock are dropping on November 20th. Sadly, they’re going to cost you $9.99. Ouch. For what I expected to ship with the game after the initial announcements, it’s sad to see this costing extra loot. However, with that said, it’s worth the money. Here’s the skinny on the three Challenge Rooms:

  • A Shocking Turn of Events – A Little Sister is trapped atop a Ferris wheel in an undisclosed location in Rapture. Using only the tools and environment around them, players must use their wits to create electricity to power the Ferris wheel and bring the Little Sister to safety.
  • The I in Team – Using limited resources, and an even more limited arsenal, players must negotiate traps and find a way to defeat a Big Daddy using their wits instead of raw firepower.
  • Worlds of Hurt – Step up and take on the most grueling challenge offered in the world of Rapture. Players must battle through eight rooms of Big Daddies, Splicers and the worst that Rapture has to offer. Accumulate Adam, build an arsenal of Plasmids, Tonics and Weaponry, and fight through to rescue the Little Sister.

Some new Trophies are coming with the goods, so you can whore yourself out if you choose. Don’t forget, the graphics patch to make everything more gooder is coming November 20th as well. Get some. Full press release and more screens after the jump.
