Review: DJ Hero

DJ Hero - Scribble-Scratching

The rhythm game genre needed a shot in the arm. Games like Rock Band and Guitar Hero are great, but what about other types of music? Enter DJ Hero, where you can show off your skills on wax. As a big fan of hip hop and turntablism, the game immediately piqued my interest. My initial hands-on experiences before release were frustrating while learning the new controls on the turntable controller, but after getting the retail game and playing the tutorial, I don’t want to stop playing. DJ Hero is just that damn fun.

Impressions: Netflix (PS3)

Netflix PS3 Screen

The Xbox 360 has had the Netflix service for over a year.  It’s got this streaming shit down.  Well, it should.  But crashing into the party is the PS3 with it’s disc based application for the online streaming service.  You essentially have had a year long relationship with your 360 chick when all of a sudden this new “dreamy” black slim kid shows up in a leather jacket.  He comes around like the alter-Fonz (or Micheal Jackson) and says he can do the same tricks you can do in hopes of stealing your girl from you.  Jumping a pool full of sharks? Maybe.  Are there enough positives in the new dude to warrant using him to see what he can do? Or do you check him out and go with the old standby “one of the guys” for your viewing pleasure?  Find out after the jump.

PS3 Netflix Disc Arriving Friday!

Netflix PS3

Hey what up Loot Ninja!?  I just got an e-mail today to let me know that the Netflix PS3 disc will be hitting my snail mail box this Friday (November 6th).  Wait! That’s tomorrow!  Holy crap! For those of you out of the feed, the Netflix service (online streaming) will be making it’s way over to the PS3 this Friday.

I can’t wait to watch a few British TV shows before I get back into Uncharted 2!  I’ll have to just insert the Netflix disc in the PS3 to boot into the service like it was a game, but this will give Netflix subscribers access to an extensive library of movies and TV shows for online streaming.  It’s essentially the same service used for the Xbox 360, but mark this off the list of something that the SexBox can do that the PS3 can’t.

Review: Borderlands

Borderlands Screen

As you can guess from the name of this site, we enjoy Loot. And as any hardcore gamers, we enjoy a good shooter. Put the two together with strong RPG elements and you get Borderlands, one of the most addicting games you’ll play this year. Gearbox slapped together a kick-ass cell-shaded art style, awesome shooter gameplay and more weapons your can count to make a killer app.

Review: Tekken 6

Tekken 6 D.Jin Kazuya

GOOD LUCK FIGURING OUT WHAT CHARACTER TO CHOOSE…

I have been playing Tekken since its first release in 1995. The series has made a lot of headway over the years while never losing what made it stand out. Now with Tekken 6, the story evolves – kind of. True to the Mishima bloodline the youngest, Jin, has gone from reluctant hero to megalomaniac trying to take over the world – I guess these guys are just meant to be assholes. Oh well. Anyways a new tournament is here and Namco Bandai asks you once again to join. For the first time however this entry comes out on a platform other than a PlayStation with a semi-controversial Xbox 360 debut. But let’s be honest, this has been coming for a while hasn’t it?

So what’s all the hubbub about? Click on this thing here.

God of War III Demo Gameplay

If you haven’t preordered God of War III yet, you probably don’t have access to the awesome E3 demo that Sony released as a preorder bonus. If you do, you know exactly how badass and fun this is. I played it at E3 and haven’t had a chance to fire it up yet at home, but I will be very soon.

Review: WWE SmackDown vs RAW 2010

WWE SmackDown vs RAW 2010 Screen

In my high school years, before we could drive, many a weekend night was spent playing N64 with beer we stole from someone’s garage or got a homeless guy to buy for us. We spent those nights playing either Goldeneye or WWF No Mercy. The latter was an absolute masterpiece for wrestling and great beyond its years. THQ solidified themselves as the studio who knew wrestling and what its rabid fan base wanted out of a game. The SvR series has since replaced those titles and every year seem to get a little better, but falling short of overall greatness. In SvR 2010, they got it right.

Review: Critter Crunch

Critter Crunch Screen

Puzzle games come and go, but really good addicting puzzlers are a little more scarce. Critter Crunch completely falls into the latter category. A cute 2D hand drawn art style with simple, yet difficult to master gameplay and a ton of different puzzles make this a must buy for any PS3 owner.

Fat Princess Fixes, New Map Coming Soon

Fat Princess New Pork City Map Screen

I haven’t touched Fat Princess since I made the switch to the PS3 Slim. It has nothing to do with the actual game, but the fact that all online statistics are tied to your game save which cannot be moved between consoles. The news that the game is receiving a major patch and a free new map might have me starting over in my quest to fatten up that royal chick.

Titan Studios has been beta testing New Pork City for a while and it looks like a solid addition to game’s lineup of maps. To go along with the new setting, there will be major gameplay tweaks, character balancing, and scoring updates. It’s too much to list right here, so hit the jump and check out all the changes.

The patch is coming soon, so keep firing up your copy of Fat Princess and see if you can download all the new goodies.

Uncharted 2 DLC Coming This Year

Uncharted_2_Goes_Gold

In news that came completely out of left field, Naughty Dog has stated that DLC for Uncharted 2 can be expected this calendar year. I never saw that one coming. In an interview with IndustryGamers, the game’s Creative Director, Amy Hennig, had this to say:

We’re working on that now, and what we’re prepared to say is that there will be DLC available before the end of the year. Without going into specifics, it’ll involve new maps, new characters, things like that. Some of it will be free of charge and some of it will be purchasable.

I’m in for new maps and hopefully some new co-op environments. The character skin unlocks don’t really do much for me now, so I doubt I’d buy any those. If they’re free, I’ll definitely download, but not for any cash.

Are you excited for this year’s DLC? Did you see it coming a mile away like I did?
