Guitar Hero: Aerosmith Coming This Summer

Guitar Hero Aerosmith Screen

Have you ever sat down to play Guitar Hero and thought “Gee this needs more Aerosmith”? If you have, and I know many of us surely have, your prayers are being answered. Guitar Hero: Aerosmith is set to rock your Xbox 360, PS3, Wii, and PS2 this June.

[Joe] Perry adds, “On a larger scale, it’s cool for us to be pioneers helping to rebuild the music industry through a format like video games. It’s great for rock since the record companies are struggling to make sense of how things are changing. Fans want to get and experience music in new formats–and there are going to be some of them who will play the game, then pick up the guitar for real and start bands. It’s what’s happening now, and it’s only going to build more momentum in the future. It’s a massive change for the music business.”

As an added bonus, Guitar Hero III fans will get a free downloadable version of “Dream On” on both the Xbox 360 and PS3 from February 16th - 18th (as in this weekend only). I’m not really sure how this one will do. I think a lot of the appeal of Guitar Hero is the variety, and I think even hardcore Aerosmith fans might get a bit bored by only playing songs from one band. We’ll see how it plays out though.

Command and Conquer: Red Alert 3 Announced With Beta

Command and Conquer Screen

EA sent an owl over with a press release to let us know that Command and Conquer: Red Alert 3 is indeed coming to the PC, Xbox 360, and PS3.

“It’s been too long.” said Chris Corry, Executive Producer at EALA. “Fans have been waiting for a new Red Alert game for seven years, and we’re working hard to ensure its well worth the wait. The team is staying true to the series’ roots while adding new elements like a co-operatively played story-driven campaign, an astounding new faction that will shake-up the Red Alert universe as we know it, and units that will help make Red Alert 3 everything our fans have been waiting for. And by bringing naval combat into the heart of the game design, we’re transporting that fast, fun and fluid C&C gameplay to the high-seas in ways that you’ve never seen before.”

A PC-only Beta period for the game will run later this year. To get into the Beta, pick up a copy of Command & Conquer 3: Kane’s Wrath or the Command & Conquer 3 Limited Collection. No Beta will run on consoles.

Spore Coming This September

Spore Screen

EA dropped a press release today dating Spore worldwide for the weekend of September 7th, 2008. The game will be available for PC, Mac, Nintendo DS, and Mobile Phones.

“The wait is almost over,” said Maxis Chief Designer Will Wright. “We’re in our final stages of testing and polish with Spore, and the team at Maxis can’t wait to see the cosmos of content created by the community later this year.”

I’m not too sure how the game will play out on mobile phones. Spore seems a bit too deep and complex for the platform. Either way, I can’t wait to get my hands on the final game this fall on my MacBook Pro.

Bioshock Coming to Mobile Phones

Does anyone out there buy these games? Taz and I have Blackberrys, drunk pandas has an iPhone, and not one of us has ever bought a mobile phone game. Don’t they have PSP and DS for that. Needless to say, you can experience Rapture on the go with Bioshock: The Mobile game.  Here is an official press release we just received:

Sean Malatesta, CEO, IG Fun said, “We’re trying to do great things and BioShock on mobile promises to offer a whole new gaming experience and unmatched excitement amongst mobile gamers the world over. BioShock is a special game in its genre; it brings an element of conflicting morals which has an impact on the storyline, and, among other things, on the difficulty of the game itself.”

I think I tried Splinter Cell as a demo once, and let me tell you, it was not the same. They are basically small elements of a great game in pre-SNES gen basically. People will buy this because of just how good Bioshock was. Maybe we will get a free copy and give it away. I have to sit down.

Assassin’s Creed Gets Extra Missions for PC

assassins-creed-2.jpg

To go along with it’s hefty system requirements, Assassin’s Creed for PC will get a few extra missions to satisfy your killing needs.

According to a press release from Ubisoft, there will be four new exclusive types of investigations. So no longer will you be pigeon holed into pick-pocketing or sitting and observing.

I really enjoyed Assassin’s Creed, and would love the extra investigation types and missions, but there’s no way my PC will run this game at a high enough level. I’ll stick to the console version.

EA and Spielberg Delivering Boom Blox for Wii

Boom Blox Screen

Yes, that Spielberg. As in the guy that brought you Jaws, ET, and Indiana Jones. Steven is teaming up with EA to deliver Boom Blox for the Wii.

Fun for kids and the entire family, BOOM BLOX offers action-packed interactive activities that takes Wii play to a new level of creativity and fun with single player, co-op, and versus gameplay. Players can experience the visceral gameplay - perfectly suited for the Wii’s interactive motion-sensitive controls - through brain-twisting challenges. They can interact with entertaining characters such as the block-laying chickens or baseball-throwing monkeys across four themed environments - Tiki, Medieval, Frontier, and Haunted. Additionally, players can remix any level of the game in Create Mode using props, blocks, or characters that have been unlocked during the game. Players can also virtually build anything they can dream up. Plus, their designs can then be shared with friends or used to challenge others to solve their newly created puzzle via WiiConnect24™.

The game sounds decent. I’d like to see more gameplay before I make judgment though. It seems like an attempt to make a Little Big Planet style game for the Wii.

EA Brings Arcade Boxing With FaceBreaker

FaceBreaker Screen

Arcade style boxing is making a comeback in 2008 for the 360, PS3, and Wii as EA brings on FaceBreaker. Developed by the same team at EA Canada responsible for Fight Night Round 3, FaceBreaker brings comedy to the beat-em-up game.

The renaissance of the arcade boxing genre is upon us. Created by the same team that developed the award-winning Fight Night Round 3, FaceBreaker offers irreverent fun, immersive gameplay and eye-popping stylized graphics. In this in-your-face, arcade world full of ego-wielding characters, each boxer comes to life with unique attributes and distinct personal style, including Romeo, a Latin lover known for his pelvic thrusts, and Molotov, an oversized Russian demolitions expert with a penchant for fighting dirty. Add a little personal motivation to your fight by uploading a photo of your face to create a realistic likeness using Photo Game Face, and go toe-to-toe with a real-life friend or foe.

The game looks to be in the same style as Ready to Rumble Boxing, one of my favorite titles from the last generations. Fight Night Round 3 was easily the best boxing game ever, so building on that engine should make this one a winner.

Gran Turismo 5 Prologue Priced and Dated for USA

Gran Turismo 5 Prologue Screen

Japan has been playing Gran Turismo 5 Prologue for a while now, and soon US gamers will get a chance to tear up the track. The game is being released on April 17th as both a download from the PlayStation Store and available at retail. Both versions will run you $39.99

The retail version will ship with a bonus HD making of video, if you’re into that sort of thing or are running short of hard drive space on your PS3. We’ve played Prologue a few times here at Loot Ninja and think it’s definitely one of if not the best driving games that you’ll play this year.

For more info on what we thought of the game, check out our Hands-On Preview.

Standalone Rock Band Instruments Coming Next Month

RockBand

If you’ve been clamoring to get your hands on some extra Rock Band instruments, your wait is nearly over. Harmonix announced that standalone rocking tools will be available starting in February.

The drum kit will be available for all systems on February 12th for $79.99. Guitar players will have to wait a bit longer until April 1st, when you’ll be able to spend $59.99 for a wireless Fender Strat. No official word on when the mic will be available on it’s own.

I still with Harmonix and Activision would get their crap together over letting instruments from their games intermingle. It would really help PlayStation owners who have both games.

Ryan Howard Named to MLB 08 The Show Cover

Ryan Howard Image

Ryan Howard, star first baseman for the Philadelphia Phillies, will be this year’s cover athlete for MLB 08 The Show on Sony platforms. From the press release:

Known for his prolific power and ability to drive in runs, Howard is just the second player in Major League Baseball™ history to win the Rookie of the Year honors and a Most Valuable Player award in successive seasons. During his 2006 MVP season, Howard led the Major Leagues in home runs (58), which broke the record for most home runs in a sophomore season set in 1947 by Ralph Kiner (51), won the All-Star Game™ Home Run Derby® with a total of 23 blasts, and was the 2006 National League™ Hank Aaron Award recipient, the award given to the top hitter in each league.

Howard is a huge star and one of the best pure left handed power hitters in the game today. The guy flat out destroys the ball. Good for him making the cover this year! The game, from everything we’ve seen, looks absolutely phenomenal. Can’t wait until March to play.
