God of War III Ultimate Edition

gow3-ultimate-edition

Good fucking god.

Sony has announced the God of War III “Ultimate Edition” details – and it looks like an extremely manly collector’s edition indeed.

For the low price of $99, you get:

  • Limited Edition Art Book
  • Combat Challenge Arena
  • Exclusive Kratos Skin
  • God of War Documentary
  • God of War Trilogy Soundtrack
  • God of War: Blood and Metal EP

Seems like a good enough of a deal, although I don’t know how well the sculpted Pandora’s Box the entire thing comes in will match my decor.  For a hundred bones, I’m not sure it’s entirely worth it, but then again it is God of War we’re talking about.  Between this and the God of War Collection coming out in the near future, I’m about ready to kick the shit out of some demons.  March can’t come soon enough.

Mass Effect 2 Coming January 26th

masseffect

Along with a slew of pre-order incentives (exclusive content), Bioware announced today that Mass Effect 2 will release on January 26th, 2010 in the US and on January 29th in Europe.  Good news for RPG fans.

In North America, pre-order bonuses* include special-ops armor and weaponry that are designed to boost Commander Shepard’s skills and abilities. At GameStop, Terminus Gear is available with pre-orders, which includes the powerful Terminus Assault Armor and the M-490 Blackstorm Heavy Weapon:

  • The Terminus Armor is designed for use in extreme planetary conditions, increasing run speed and personal shields, and augmenting weapons with an additional magazine of reserve ammo.
  • The M-90 Blackstorm Heavy Weapon generates a high-powered localized gravity well, accelerating particles to near-infinite mass,  and ultimately expanding the selection of heavy weapons available to players when they gear up for combat missions in Mass Effect 2.

Players that pre-order Mass Effect 2 at other retail outlets in North America will receive the potent Inferno Armor, which is used by officers to monitor battlefield conditions by recognizing elevated heart rates, and regulates sub-systems with extreme efficiency to allow for greater response times – together these abilities translate in-game into a negotiation bonus for Commander Shepard and an increase in run speed and augmented damage from combat powers.

Personally, I didn’t think Mass Effect 2 would be released so soon, and I’m really excited for the new year now.  I guess the wait for January 26th starts now…

Preorder Modern Warfare 2 Prestige Edition Now

Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 Prestige Edition

Amazon is on point today, already offering the Modern Warfare 2 Prestige Edition for preorder for both Xbox 360 and PS3. If you have a spare $150 sitting around, go ahead and drop it for this bad boy.

Personally, I’m going to stick with the regular edition for MW2. I don’t have much desire to play the original Call of Duty anymore and don’t need any art books for the game, so I’ll save some money here. I’m usually all over collector’s editions where you get cool stuff, but $150 is entirely too much.

Preorder Resistance: Retribution, Get Demo Access

Just like with Killzone 2, Sony is offering up early demo access to Resistance: Retribution for the PSP if you preorder the game. Right now, you’ll have to shop at Amazon, GameStop, or GameCrazy, although Best Buy will have the offer soon.

The demo will feature a bit of the single player campaign and also give access to Resistance Connect with both the Infected mode and Resistance: Retribution Plus. That means you can use your DualShock 3 if you own Resistance 3 on the PS3.

Like I said before, I’m remaining skeptical about this one until I get some hands on time (which should be pretty soon). I’m worried about the controls on the PSP with only one analog stick/nub. Hopefully, it all works out, but I have my doubts.

Remote Control Centaur Tank is an Epic Failure

Like most fanboys do before the release of a much anticipated game, I went searching for the best pre-order deal for Gears of War 2.  I decided that I wasn’t really interested in a gold hammerburst and went for Best Buy’s pre-order item of a remote control centaur tank.  I was aware the tank would be fairly small in stature and probably be made of the cheapest parts available, but I was sure that it would at least function properly. Man, was I wrong.

Best Buy’s pre-order deal was, if you ordered the limited edition of Gears of War 2 you would receive a free centaur tank.  The offer was only good for the limited edition copies of the game.  The tank wasn’t exactly the deciding factor on going with the limited edition version but it did have a slight bearing on my final decision.  So, I plopped down the extra $10.00 plus sales tax.  I arrived early at Best Buy on Friday morning just to make sure I received my incentive gift because Best Buy only had a limited number of the tanks which was clearly stated in the ad.  I picked up my copy of the game and the free tank, just another satisfied customer.

LittleBigPlanet Getting Some Nice Pre-Order Bonuses

LittleBigPlanet Kratos

I’m not a big advocate of pre-ordering games. You can usually walk in to any Best Buy, Walmart, or Target and grab a copy of the game on launch day. My only exceptions are cool limited editions and games with awesome pre-order bonuses. Enter LittleBigPlanet.

In a post on PlayStation.Blog, Mark Valledor a Marketing Manager at Sony, dropped a few details of what you can get for pre-ordering what could be the biggest Game 2.0 event to hit the consoles.

Some perks for dropping some cash down for the game early include exclusive downloads for Nariko and Kratos SackBoy skins, a LittleBigPlanet Creator video guide, a sticker book, and a sack pouch to hold your game. All are pretty damn cool stuff. What about a real life SackBoy? I want one for my desk.

Make sure to check out some pics of the rest of the goods after the jump.

Fable II Preorder Details Released

Fable II Collectors Edition

Fable II is going the route of Spore, giving you a way to get started before the game’s actual release. Microsoft and Lionhead will be releasing the Fable II Pub Games in August which will allow you to build up gold to spend in-game.

The final names of the Xbox LIVE Arcade “Fable II” Pub Games (which will be available as one download) are: “Keystone,” which is a combination of Craps and Roulette, “Spinnerbox,” which is an updated take on slot machines, and “Fortune’s Tower,” which is a press your luck style of game. The download will also include a Shell, which is a tutorial of all three games.

You can get these free to preordering either the standard or collector’s edition of the game. If not, you can drop 800 MS Points to get the Pub Games. Pretty cool preorder bonus.

Metal Gear Saga Vol. 2 Impressions

Metal Gear Saga Vol 2 DVD Cover

Did you get your Metal Gear Solid 4 pre-order in yet? We did. If you drop some cash on the game now, you get a pretty cool Metal Gear Solid Vol. 2 DVD to get you up to speed on the storyline. Oh yeah, you get a Beta code for Metal Gear Online… if you care about that sort of thing. :)

First, the bad news. This DVD is a letterboxed 4:3 type of shenanigans. It’s sort of understandable, since the earlier games didn’t support 16:9 resolutions. But MGS2 and MGS3 supported widescreen on the PS2, so I’m not sure why they didn’t go with widescreen versions of those videos. Even the MGS4 videos are letterboxed. Boo on that.

Wii Fit Priced at $90 at Gamestop

Wii Balance Board

A few astute readers have found that Gamestop has priced Wii Fit. Guess how much losing weight is going to cost you? That’s right, you read the topic and the game with balance board will run you a cool $90. Seems pretty steep considering how the game is targeting the casual market.

A couple calls to local Gamestop stores confirms the price, as well as preorder deposits of $10. I have a feeling that, just like the Wii, if you want this one, a preorder might be necessary.

I’m not sure I’m willing to shell out just under $100 to use the Wii to try and get myself in shape. That’s why I pay for the gym membership.

Metal Gear Solid 4 Limited Edition Priced and Detailed

MGS4 Screen 5

Want to know what $85 will get you for a Metal Gear Solid 4 Limited Edition in North America? A Gamestop employee over at NeoGaf found out and posted the details. Here’s what you’ll get:

  • A Blu-ray containing
  • 2 making of documentaries, and interview with Kojima
  • 4 chapters of the graphic novel
  • Metal Gear Import Soundtrack CD

Also, as a bonus for Gamestop only, those who preorder the Limited Edition will get a nice Metal Gear Solid 4 art book. I think it’s worth the extra money and will be putting my preorder down pretty soon. Don’t forget, people that drop a bit of cash now will get into the Metal Gear Online Beta for the PS3.
