Look, if you haven’t played Plants vs. Zombies yet, I feel sorry for you. PopCap hit yet another one out of the park with their take on tower defense. It’s worth every penny of the normal $19.99 price point, but if you sleep on this at under $10, someone should smack the shit out of you.
If you head on over to PCGameStore, you can snag a copy for $6.99. If Steam if your bread and butter, they have it on sale for $9.99. Either way, this is a must buy. I’ll repeat myself for those glancing over that sentence waiting for their Friday work day to end. Plants vs. Zombies is a must buy.
Get off your rump, pull out that wallet, and skip lunch today if you have to, because you’ll be doing yourself a favor by purchasing this game.

We’ve been talking a lot about PopCap around here the past week, but this is just me expressing my thanks for them being an awesome developer. As many of you probably know, I’m addicted to Plants vs. Zombies. Since I got my MacBook Pro back with Snow Leopard installed, I’ve been unable to play the game as it would crash out all over the place. A quick email to PopCap’s customer support department was returned within a mere couple hours with a download link for an updated version of the game that works with Snow Leopard. Amazing customer support!
Most of the time when you hear about people getting in touch with someone’s support department, it’s a horror story. So when something goes very well, we feel that credit should be given. I’m on my way through the Adventure Mode of Plants vs. Zombies again (since I somehow lost my game save file when my computer was in for service, but that’s no big deal) and I’m loving every minute of it.
Thanks, PopCap, for making a game I can’t stop playing and for having terrific customer service!

Just like with Peggle, I’ll be buying multiple copies of Plants vs. Zombies. I’ve played the game for countless hours on my Mac and now versions are being developed for the iPhone and Xbox Live Arcade. I can guarantee you I’ll be picking up both. The iPhone version should be hitting later this year while the XBLA edition does not yet have a release date.
I’ve always though the iPhone would be an ideal platform for Plants vs. Zombies. The touch controls should work perfectly for positioning your plants and seeds as well as picking up sun drops. I’m sure it’ll work out well with a controller on the Xbox, but just like Peggle before it, I think the iPhone version might be my favorite. We’ll have to wait and see until later this year.
If you haven’t jumped on the bandwagon just yet and don’t want to pay to download a copy of the game on your PC or Mac, PopCap will have the game on retail shelves for $19.95. I highly suggest you get this game on some platform, because it could be a Game of the Year candidate.

PopCap knows how to make a solid game that I will buy on multiple platforms. It happened first with Peggle, and now Plants vs. Zombies is going to take the reigns. In an interview with Kombo, PopCap’s Garth Chouteau dropped this tidbit of information:
…Peggle for XBLA is a good example of a game that we took that was popular on the PC and we spent probably twice as long as anyone else would have figuring how to make that game really good for Xbox and Xbox Live Arcade, and I think you will see that with Plants Vs. Zombies–I don’t know the exact order in which that game will make its way onto other platforms, but it’s certainly been successful enough, quickly enough, that we’re looking at other platforms and deciding where we’ll take that game next…
…I don’t think you’ll see Plants vs. Zombies on a mobile phone. I think you may see it on the iPhone…some of our games, we would just say, ‘you know? We could probably sell a million of these, but people aren’t going to be happy with it…’”
If I could have given the game 6 Ninja Stars in my review, I would have. It’s that damn good. When this ships for XBLA, PSN, iPhone, DS, wherever, you can be sure I’ll be grabbing almost every version. You should too.

It takes a lot for a game to really steal my attention and makes hours disappear like they were minutes. Plants vs. Zombies easily fits into that category. Every time I sit down and say “I’ll play for a few minutes”, it turns into a few hours. The game takes the tower defense genre, flips it around a few times, adds a touch of humor, and makes you not want to walk away.
