Looks like Phil Harrison’s time at Infogrames has started with a bang. The company has offered to buyout Atari’s stock for $1.68 a share.
Keep in mind, Infogrames is already the majority stockholder in Atari, essentially controlling the company. This offer is to buy all remaining stock to fully own the company. Atari is set to hold a meeting of the board to discuss the takeover and see how they feel.
I say let it happen. Atari is in the crapper right now, and being controlled by Infogrames can only help. I just hope they don’t kill the Atari brand, as many of us have very fond memories growing up their systems and games.

Everyone’s favorite bald British guy will be leaving Sony at the end of the week. He’s been with the company for 15 years, starting before the original PlayStation was launched.
“The past 15 years at Sony Computer Entertainment has been the defining journey of my life so far,” said Phil Harrison. “I am grateful to all the PlayStation family for their incredible support, guidance and friendship. It has been a privilege to serve as part of the team and be inspired by them on a daily basis. I am so proud of everything PlayStation has achieved and will continue to support its future in every way I can.”
Kaz Hirai will be taking over Harrison’s duties, making him your global PlayStation overlord. Rumor has it that Phil might be leaving Sony to head up Atari… we’ll see what happens with that.
