There’s a new demo up on the Xbox Live Marketplace for PGR4. Major Nelson reports that the demo in all regions for once.
Race three exotic cars and two beauteous bikes through the streets of Macau and a snow laden Nürburgring. Includes an exclusive Nürburgring Snow Challenge and unique PGR Arcade Events.
The demo should give you a good feel for the game and decide if you want to pick this one up. I’m still on the fence, especially with the bikes. With all the other amazing games this Holiday season and me getting married, I highly doubt I’ll have time for PGR4. Maybe I’ll pick it up around Christmas.
Anyway, the demo weighs in at 1.27GB, so make sure you have some free space on your HDD.

With the new release of Project Gotham Racing 4 comes a slew of brand new achievements, 50 to be exact worth 1,000 points, for every red blooded achievement whore to drool over. But the one that really caught my attention was the one where you need to buy a gamer picture?!
29. Buy an Achievement - Buy the K1,000,000 gamer picture to earn this Achievement. - 20 points
Ok, Achievement points have come in all shapes and sizes, some with great honor, others with shameless promotion, but now an achievement for buying something?! This is ridiculous! You get an achievement for spending money on something worthless. It is a pretty shameless way for Microsoft to make more money off of their gamerpics by forcing someone who actually wants to get all of the gamerpoints for this game to buy something they never wanted in the first place.
::Edit:: the money isn’t real money, but in game kudos, I take the finger pointing away from MS and smile. But it still is an interesting achievement and would have been pretty interesting if MS charged real money for it.
Many arguments have been waged discussing whether achievement points add to Xbox 360 games or if they just force people to play different parts of the games they wouldn’t have normally. What can we expect next? Achievement for sending angry voice messages to your friends list, points for sending a picture of your genitals or better yet send Microsoft a bag of money get 100 points! What do you think and what crazy non-sensical achievements can you think of?
Check out all of the achievements here.

There have been a few reports about size limitations with the upcoming PGR4 title and the format that Bizarre Creations has to work with. Bizarre has issued a statement dis-crediting these statements and assures all of their users that PGR4 environments and content is not limited DVD9 size and actually gives them more than enough space.
So Xbox 360 fans can breath a sigh of relief and know that DVD9 still has juice left.
From Bizarre Creations:
As I’m sure you’ve seen, some of the comments made on our forum have been blown out of all proportion. This has been reported on certain web sites. It seems that a number of fanboys have jumped on the topic… sigh. So it’s time we cleared this one up…
When we started designing PGR4 our primary goals were to create a great and unique experience over and above PGR3, to push the hardware as far as we could, and obviously to ensure that we give great value for money. DVD size is absolutely not a factor that we consider when designing our games… and PGR4 is no exception. DVD9 gives us more than we need to create a fabulous experience for you guys.

Lack of disk space on the DVD for PGR4 is going to inhibit some of the game’s production, namely the ability to race on the same tracks and day and night. This is a posting from Bizarre Studios, the OFFICIAL forum for PGR4. The blogger mentioned here is Ben, who is also an OFFICIAL game developer. When asked whether the day/night tracks would be available, he replied:
You won’t see different times of day per city because this involves recreating all the textures again (one for day and one for night). Whilst this wasn’t a problem for our dev team, it was a problem fitting all this data onto a single DVD. So we’ve worked around the problem by providing different lighting models per city. For example, Macau is always in the daytime, but if you play it during a storm everything looks darker and more foreboding. If you play during a blizzard then things are slightly tinged blue and everything seems more frozen. Of course, playing this track in sunshine will make everything appear bright and yellowy.
It seems that Bizarre is the latest developer to have the DVD’s limitations stand in the way of progress.
